His embrace tightened involuntarily, causing her to experience a slight twinge of pain.

Cecilia pushed Christopher’s arms away, looked up at him, and asked curiously, “What’s wrong?”

She hoped he was not feeling jealous just because she saved a young man when she was a child.

Christopher looked at Cecilia carefully and did not see the boy on her.

He felt he was overthinking and immediately calmed down.

At the same time, a little hope flickered in his heart.

Therefore, he asked, “Ceci, was your assassination mission in Erihal when you were eight years old?”

He didn’t hold much hope when he asked.

Cecilia sat up and looked at Christopher coldly. “You found out about my past?”

She didn’t mind him being aware of her past, but choosing to share it willingly was entirely different

from being investigated. Seeing that Cecilia had misunderstood, Christopher hurriedly explained, “Ceci,

I did investigate you, but I only found the information that you openly shared without delving deeper. I

brought up Erihal because, during that year, I became a mercenary and coincidentally took on a

mission in Erihal.”

Then, he met Cecilia’s eyes and continued to move his thin lips.

“The incident where you saved that young man is reminiscent of a situation I experienced.”

Hearing this, Cecilia looked at Christopher strangely and

asked, “Is there really such a coincidence?”

Christopher hoped for such a coincidence to be true.

He asked, “Ceci, what did you say to the young man back then?”

Cecilia was eight years old and had a good memory.

Christopher gazed at Cecilia, who wore an expression of disbelief, and nodded in confirmation. “It was

me.”

Then, he hugged Cecilia tightly in his arms.

It appeared that fate had been kind to him, for he had already crossed paths with Cecilia.

Regrettably, he hadn’t recognized Cecilia as a girl during that time, and as a result, he spent countless

years searching for her in vain.

Cecilia found the world to be incredibly surreal and asked, “Why were you hunted down back then?”

Christopher pondered for a moment and told Cecilia the

reason.

He was given the task of protecting an important political figure in Erihal.

After repeatedly helping his employer solve the crisis, he was targeted by his employer’s enemies to

get rid of him.

He had already been rounded up twice before he met Cecilia. At that time, Cecilia disguised herself

well as a boy. If she had chosen to attack him, he would have undoubtedly fallen for her ruse.

Losing combat effectiveness would have equated to awaiting death.

After hearing that, Cecilia said with a smile, “You were so lucky to meet me, who treated the assassin

organization as my enemy. If I were another person, you would have been dead for 13 years.”

Christopher nodded in agreement and hugged Cecilia.

Then, she gently extracted herself from Christopher’s embrace and inquired, “Were you involved in the

It had taken nearly three months from the time of her mission’s failure to her eventual rescue.

The time span was a little long, so she had never considered that the young man might have been

behind it.

She had assumed it was just good luck, and a glimmer of light had finally broken through the darkness

in her life.

Looking back, she realized she had taken everything for granted.

Christopher was just a mercenary, and it would be difficult to deal with the huge assassin organization.

Three months was probably the limit for him.

When Cecilia was immersed in her thoughts, Christopher said, “It had something to do with me, but I

wasn’t the one who struck. I was only responsible for incriminating evidence against the assassin

organization in Erihal and providing it to the police.”

“Yes. It served as punishment for my failure to complete the mission. Thankfully, I had some medical

knowledge back then. Otherwise, this leg might have been disabled.”

She was not exaggerating.

The leader had been particularly merciless. The knife tip was dipped in pepper water before it pierced

through her skin into the bone and pulled down.

Cecilia didn’t continue to immerse in her memory. She closed her eyes tiredly.

Christopher’s fingertips moved gently back and forth across her scar. His heart was filled with

sympathy for the suffering she had endured.

“Ceci, I’ll help you get rid of this scar.”

“There is no need for that. I don’t like wearing short skirts. There is no need to waste time doing such

boring things.”

Since Cecilia didn’t want to, Christopher didn’t force her.

He asked, “After being rescued from the assassin organization,

“No, I was sent to the orphanage. I met Evan, who was also in the orphanage, and he treated me

well.”

Evan was the first person to be nice to Cecilia.
