MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 50
John could not take his mind off Nina and Helen’s conversation earlier. He had wanted to tell Nina about how he felt about her, but he had been hesitating. Being open about emotions was not his style after all.
Only others took the initiative to confess their feelings. John had never been like those people, and nobody could make him talk about things that he did not want to talk about.
But in the end, he decided he had a reason this time to confess. His little girl had already expressed her love to him, and he was only giving her a response, a response that she deserved.
Nina was not sure at first if she had heard John right. After he said that he loved her, she blinked twice in the room’s dimness as if it would help her hearing sharpen and focus. The master bedroom was a shade next to pitch black, yet she could see and feel his eyes boring straight into her soul.
Suddenly, she was hyperaware of his touch. Her heart started pounding against her ribcage, and her earlobes started burning. Everything she had done with John flashed before her eyes like a movie in fast forward.
After the Four Seasons Garden Hotel, he had taken to calling her little girl in either a playful or domineering tone.
Every time he called her “my little girl,” she would have dreams of returning home.
When she was kidnapped and helpless, John was all that was in her mind. In the end, he came for her like a god rescuing his goddess.
It was said that heroes fell for beauties, but beauties fell for heroes too.
“What did you say?” With her arms wrapped around John’s neck, Nina looked straight into his eyes.
John’s eyes gleamed with joy. He held the sides of Nina’s face, leaned in, and put his forehead against hers. Then, he reached for her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers. He put her hand on his chest and softly kissed her.
He did not utter a single word to answer her question, but his gesture was enough to make her eyes mist over.
She felt John’s joy wash over her like a wave lapping on shore. Then, she smiled, broke free from his grip, and rolled him over on his back. She was on top of him now, straddling him.
John chuckled and stared up at her. His little girl was indeed wild.
The next day, Nina woke up at noon. John’s side of the bed was already empty, but his warmth and scent still lingered on the quilt.
Nina rolled on her side and smiled. She ran her hand over where John had previously slept.
Last night, as Helen had told her, she heard the words “I love you” from John. She was so happy that her heart fluttered like a hummingbird’s wings.
John still did not let her out of the bedroom, but Nina did not complain anymore. Anyway, he already told her that he would ask for a leave of absence for her, so she did not need to go to class.
A few days passed, and Nina found herself getting bored. To pass her time, she asked Helen to buy a set of paintbrushes and an inkstone for her so that she could draw the ink wash painting from half a year ago. She would repaint the painting from memory. She remembered it so well because she did the painting the first time when she was missing her family.
Nina owned a special studio apartment overlooking the ocean in a small fishing village in Spring City. Every year, she stayed there for half a month during her winter and summer vacations to paint. She painted by the sea where she could look at C Island.
Even if she could only see the island vaguely, she still felt satisfied.
At the moment, she could not go to her special studio apartment to paint, so she decided she would paint in the master bedroom where John wanted her to be.
She sat by the window and started drawing the replacement painting she had promised Isabella. It was good luck that she saw the painting a few days ago at Vivian’s party. It was able to refresh her memory, allowing her to repaint it smoothly.
Half an hour later, the painting was finished and put on a table to dry.
Then, Nina began to paint another one, which was the compensation she promised Isabella. Three hours later, she finished the second painting. It was a corner of North Yard out of the master bedroom’s window.
After completing two pieces of work in succession, Nina thought for a while and pulled up the wedding certificate photo saved in her mobile phone. She started drawing it in between giggles.
John looked miserable in the photo, and it made Nina almost laugh herself to death. She was not sure who took it, but maybe the cameraman had a grudge against John.
Nina would never forget the embarrassed expression on John’s face when he saw her looking at the photo. That was indeed memorable. After finishing the painting, she went ahead and hung it on one of the walls of the master bedroom.
“Well, I’m most satisfied with this painting.” Nina clapped her hands and admired her work. Then, she burst out laughing. The sound of her laughter instantly filled the room.
In his office at Time Group, John stared at the tablet in his hand. It showed the live feed of North Yard’s master bedroom. He could not decide whether he should be happy or angry.

He saw Nina’s whole process clearly, but when she painted his face from the damned wedding photo, he did not find it amusing at all. After work, he went home to North Yard with a dark face.
Upon entering the master bedroom, he grabbed Nina by the wrist and pressed her against the wall. He leaned in and whispered in her ear with an evil smile, “I’m most satisfied with this!”
Then, a new series of punishments commenced. After that night, Nina found herself unable to slide out of bed for four days. Even if the cosmetics she bought had arrived, she was not in the mood to do her makeup. She just lay quietly in bed, feeling completely helpless.
“It’s my fault, John. I’m sorry.” Nina finally lowered her head and apologized. People should have a clear estimation of themselves. If she had not admitted her mistakes, she might have become the first woman in the world who was exhausted to death in bed.
Watching from his office, John finally smiled. He had been wanting to hear that apology from Nina. Hopefully she had learned her lesson this time.
John closed the tablet in his hand. Then, someone came knocking on the door.
The next moment, the assistant who had just been promoted not long ago came in with Henry on her heels.
The assistant said respectfully, “Mr. Shi, Henry has returned. Should I go back to the front desk?”
After working as an assistant for a period of time, she thought that being a receptionist was a whole lot easier.
It was not easy to work for John. When John was not at work and Henry was not available, she handled everything, and it was exhausting.
Besides, John was temperamental. She could easily lose her job if she was not careful. Honestly, she thought that she was better off working for him as his receptionist. It was a lot less responsibility.
In a good mood, John looked up at Henry and asked, “Do you need an assistant, Henry?”
“What?” Henry was shocked. When did John become so kind? Was he finally able to tame his wife?
In that case, he would not let this opportunity pass. His job had become draining, and he was slowly becoming unable to handle it all alone. “Yes, I need an assistant, Mr. Shi.”
“Great. You can be Henry’s assistant from now on.” John was a good judge of character. Although this assistant could not deal with professional matters, she had never made any mistakes. She would be more than capable of assisting Henry.
The assistant was surprised and pleased. It was much better to be an assistant to Henry than to John.
“Thank you, Mr. Shi. I appreciate it.” The assistant was very grateful. She was just handed a good designation, and she must work hard to keep it.
Henry also bent down to express his thanks. “Thank you for your consideration, Mr. Shi.”
John was so considerate today. Henry had to tell the others as soon as possible.
After Henry and his new assistant left John’s office, Henry sent a message in the company’s WeChat group. His message read, “The level ten alarm is dismissed. Mr. Shi is in a good mood, and anyone who needs him to sign something should come up quickly.”
The company’s WeChat group was in an uproar, and many employees were skeptical. “Henry, why is Mr. Shi in a good mood? Tell us the reason, or we won’t dare come to his office.”
Henry casually replied, “Mrs. Shi has found her way home.”
After thinking for a while, he added, “Mr. Shi has tamed the elk in North Yard.”
“In a minute!” Everyone was sending out massages in the WeChat group. Many employees rushed to the CEO’s office in batches with the documents that needed to be signed.
Sure enough, John patiently signed dozens of documents. He did not nitpick, and his eyes were not as frightening as before.
Some employees even went out of John’s office with tears in their eyes. They thought, ‘Thank you, Mrs. Shi. Long live Mrs. Shi.’
Lying in bed, Nina had sneezed for the whole afternoon, which frightened Helen. When Helen was about to go downstairs and call John, she saw a familiar person.
“Ms. Shi?” Helen was a little surprised. Jessica had never set foot in North Yard. Why did she come today?
