- MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2
- Season 3 Episode 84 - (Flattering before the fall)
Nina knew Jessica and Vivian would make trouble for her, but they weren’t very good at it.
They were both from famous families. How could they have such dirty minds? “Don’t you have friends?” Nina asked, confused, raising her eyes to look at the pair.
The hushed whispers from the crowd reached Nina’s ears. “Yeah! Can’t they be friends?”
“She sprained her ankle. Why can’t her friend be worried and check her injury.” “Married women should be able to have friends.”
“It’s like Ms. Shi and Miss Ye are trying to cause trouble for Mrs. Shi.”
“Miss Ye has a thing for Mr. Shi, you know. But I guess Ms. Shi doesn’t like her sister-in-law.”
“Why?”
“Maybe she thinks they’re not a good match.”
“Why would she think that? Mrs. Shi is pretty and talented. I really admire her.” “Maybe it is because of her family background. He’s rich and she’s…well…not.”
Their whispers were annoying, like the buzzing of mosquitoes. Vivian didn’t realize that many people liked Nina.
‘She’s just a painter and one of Professor Gu’s disciples. Why should I care?
But we’re at a dinner party now. I’d better tone it down so it doesn’t cause problems for me.’
“I’m sorry. I’m just snippy today,” said Vivian. Since others thought she did something wrong, she apologized in front of everyone.
It was just a few words. It was not like she meant them.
After all, she wanted to be seen as a good woman. Apologizing quickly would help her image a lot.
Someone praised her. “At least Miss Ye can admit it when she’s wrong.”
Jessica couldn’t even accept she’d made a mistake. What did she do wrong? “Who knows if your so-called friends are even real? Maybe you are friends with benefits.”
Noah lowered Nina’s ankle gently and let go of it. He stood and glared at Jessica. “Ms. Shi, I’ll let that slide, because you’re friends with my aunt. But can you prove it, or are you just talking shit?
Nini and I are both disciples of Professor Gu. She’s like a sister to me. Are you deliberately stirring things up? Maybe you should think twice before opening your mouth, Ms. Shi.”
Noah knew that Leon would do something to embarrass Jessica and Vivian tonight.
Vivian was cautious and knew how to avoid trouble.
However, Jessica was too self-centered. She didn’t care what kind of drama she caused.
He didn’t want Jessica to get into trouble for his late aunt’s sake. Noah thought he would prompt Jessica, hoping that she could understand what he meant.
Noah was the leader of the criminal investigation team. He dealt with criminals and was in charge of interrogating them. Part of that process was intimidation.
Therefore, Jessica felt Noah was trying to intimidate her.
His kindness was mistaken for evil intent.
“Are you interrogating me? Do you think I’m a criminal? You asked me to prove it. You showed up with Nina, danced with her, and she threw herself into your arms. Should I go on?
How can you act that way around your aunt’s friend? You asked me to think before speaking, huh? I don’t need you to teach me. Think about what you did.
Your aunt got hurt and had a 2-week
hospital stay thanks to Nina, and now it looks like you’re flirting with her.
Kristina wouldn’t like that.”
Noah narrowed his eyes. His gentle eyes turned cold. “Aunt Kristina said you were good friends. I think she was sentimental. You don’t know her at all, but she knew you quite well.”
“What would you know about it?” Jessica was displeased. She turned away from him, intending to ignore him.
Vivian hurried to mediate the dispute with a smile. “Hey, hey. The party’s still going. Mind your manners. I might be a good idea to take Nina to see the doctor. I don’t know if it’s serious.”

Noah stared at Vivian for a while and said, “I already checked it out. It’s not serious. A little rest and she’ll be fine.” “That’s good.” Vivian smiled at Noah and then nodded at Nina to show she was all heart.
Nina ignored her.
May had been watching everything going on. She thought she should add fuel to the fire. Maybe she could start some new ones, too.
“Hello, Miss Ye. I’m May Su.” May introduced herself to Vivian and then turned to Jessica. “Ms. Shi, I’ve heard a lot about you. You are more beautiful than I imagined.”
“Hi, Ms. Su,” Vivian greeted her. After taking charge of the Ye Group, Vivian had been trying to make friends with people who could do something for her. May was a TV star, so you could do worse than be her friend.
Jessica got hit with a ton of flattery. It was easy for her to distinguish between flattery and sincere praise.
She liked to listen to flattery and bask in the praise, even if she knew it wasn’t true.
“You look familiar, May. Wait! You were in that palace drama, weren’t you?” Jessica said, though she still looked arrogant. May nodded and stood next to them, smiling.
Spotting a nearby piano, she said, “If I recall correctly, you won a piano competition, right, Miss Ye?”
“Huh?” Vivian turned her head, confusion in her eyes, and then it dawned on her what she was talking about. “Just lucky, I guess.”
“Not everyone’s that lucky,” May replied. With a smile on her face, she stared at the piano and added, “Miss Ye, maybe you’re lucky again this evening.”
“What do you mean?” asked Vivian. May answered, “Prince Leon has a sister. She’s a real virtuoso on the piano. She even composed a song. She’s a hit on the local scene, at least on C Island.
Prince Leon likes her a lot. Wherever he goes, he brings a piano and some sheet music. If anyone can play the piece, he will grant them whatever they request—within limits.
I know that you and Mr. Adrian Song just became CEOs recently, so you probably need a lot of support. Mr. Song has the prince’s support, and you have C Island support you too. After all, you’re an accomplished pianist.”
Vivian thought seriously about what May said. If the prince pledged his support, then everyone would fall in line to do that, including her parents. Her parents wouldn’t be so eager to have a son to inherit the family holdings.
However, Vivian was cautious. She hadn’t gotten where she was by making rash decisions. She weighed May’s words.
May could hear Leon’s order through the headset. Leon was monitoring the room from the second floor.
Leon heard what May said, and knew that she was just making things up. He told Adrian to tell everyone about it. Make it go viral.
“If anyone can play this song accurately, the prince will promise them one thing unconditionally.”
That caused a stir.
It was a stroke of luck.
Many people who had learned the piano were eager to give it a shot. Greed gripped Vivian’s heart, and it was obvious to everyone there.
“Miss Ye, you are the reigning champion of the piano. You have the chops to become a maestro,” May encouraged Vivian. “I wonder if we have a chance to hear you play.”
Everyone stared at Vivian expectantly. Vivian smiled and said, “I’ll give it a shot.”
The guests burst into thunderous applause.
Vivian felt that she was walking along the red carpet and reveled in their adoration. She raised her chin proudly, lifted her skirt gracefully and sat in front of the piano.
There was a score sitting on the music desk mounted on the piano, and she glanced at it before positioning her fingers.
She was good at playing from sheet music.
Vivian took a simple glance at the score, but didn’t find any flaws. By the time she got to the third note, Nina knew the melody was wrong.
“What is Leon doing?” Nina looked at Noah, confused.
Noah said something quietly, so only Nina could hear it. “He propped up her ego, and set her up to fail.”
