MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 3 Episode 83
Nina knew what Jessica and Vivian intended to do, and she had no plans to pay them any particular attention.
More importantly, she was feeling an invisible gaze coming from the second floor.
She had been feeling it for a while now.
She pondered this, and her mind wandered. The next thing she knew, she sprained her ankle and fell into Noah’s arms.
Her unique and alluring scent assaulted his senses, leaving Noah stunned. Instead of asking if she was okay, he found himself reveling in the softness in his arms.
For her part, Nina was still a little hung up on that mysterious gaze that she thought it was John holding her.
As soon as Emma saw Nina fall, she walked over to them. She quickly pulled her friend up. “Nina, are you okay?”
“Aunt Nina! Are you all right?” James came to his senses, too.
Their reactions finally pulled Noah away from the haze and helped him regain his composure. “Nini, are you hurt anywhere?”
Nina looked up at his words, realizing belatedly that this man was Noah and not her husband.
‘Ah, it looks like I’m missing John too much these days.
I don’t even know if he is here tonight.’ She raised her eyes to the direction of the second floor again, but she still couldn’t see anyone.
The music stopped at the commotion, and everyone’s eyes turned to Nina and her friends.
“It’s nothing serious, but I think I might have sprained my ankle.” Nina tried a cheery smile. “It’s all the shoes’ fault.”
She took off her heels as she grumbled, then gave the guests an apologetic look. “I’m so sorry to have interrupted you. Please carry on with the party.”
“Nini, let me take you somewhere to sit. We need to see of your injury is serious.” Noah took her arm and helped her off the dance floor.
Emma used the disturbance to her advantage and used it as an excuse to stop dancing.
If she had known that Harrison and Adela would also be here, she would not have come here.
“Nina, here, let me help you as well.” Emma sidled up next to her limping friend and took her other arm.
Adela had wanted a chance to make a fool of Emma, but now the girl was leaving, and all for the sake of the impertinent Nina. That one also had the audacity to disrespect Adela in the past, and the latter harbored a grudge. She couldn’t help but show it now.
“So you can even sprain your ankle even in the middle of dancing. I’m really impressed.”
“Does it have anything to do with you?” It was James who answered back. “Why are you even here? Do you like to gossip when you are full and have nothing else to do?”
Taken aback, Adela could only purse her lips and glare at them.
“What are you staring at?” James continued. He was in a bad mood. He had just witnessed firsthand how Adela tried to bully Emma. “Do you think you can just glare at me however you want? Do you think you can just run your mouth off on my aunt Nina as you want?”
He was being openly hostile to her now, and everyone’s attention was being diverted to them. Adela turned pale as she fumed; she couldn’t let so many people laugh at her.
So what if the Shi family was powerful? They would never dare lay a finger on the Zhu family.
“James, please mind your manners.”
“Why should I pay courtesy to a barking dog?” James rolled his eyes.
“You…” Adela stamped her feet once, then ran and threw herself into Harrison’s arms, sobbing. “Harrison, I only commented on how Nina sprained her ankle while dancing. I didn’t say anything wrong!”
“It’s okay, don’t cry. I’m sure James didn’t mean to scold you.” Harrison patted on Adela’s back to comfort her, but his eyes inadvertently sought Emma, and locked on her pale face.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but no words came out.
James stood between Emma and Harrison, effectively blocking his line of sight. “Adela is a barking dog, and you, Harrison, are an unfaithful man.”
He then turned to Emma and continued, “Don’t mind these people. Let’s help Aunt Nina get there.”
Nina chuckled. “James, I have to say, I didn’t expect you to be so awesome.” “I’m flattered, Aunt Nina,” James said modestly, but there a smug little smile played on his lips.
Harrison was feeling queasy. People were starting to give him and Adela strange looks.
The woman in his arms continued to fume, her face turning even paler. She looked up at him, her expression twisted to that of a spoiled child. “Harrison, how could he say that? We’re already engaged when Emma tried to seduce you. Right?”
Harrison could only nod. “Yes.”
Emma stopped in her tracks.
Those two were really good at mixing up fact and fiction.
For the first time, Emma didn’t want to hold back. She let go of Nina’s arm and turned around, then walked straight to them.

“Harrison, clear it up right here, right now. Did I actually try to seduce you while you were in a relationship with Adela, or did you get engaged with her behind my back?”
Emma’s words rang throughout the hall, her voice strong and powerful. There was no doubt that everyone in attendance heard her.
“I…” Harrison stammered, unable to answer.
If Harrison told the truth, everyone here would look down on him. A lot of people from the entertainment circle industry present, and the outcome of this situation would decide his future development in the industry.
Emma didn’t come from anywhere particularly significant anyway, so he should be fine. Whatever he said would become the truth, and no one would swoop in and help her salvage her name.
“We broke up half a year ago after we fought and stopped talking to each other. It was just you who thought that I was still your boyfriend all this time.” Harrison spoke in a calm and steady voice.
In fact, he had taken the initiative to make up with her after they stopped talking with each other.
‘I’m sorry, Emma.
My future is at stake here; I have no choice but to throw you under the bus.’ Emma was speechless for a while. It was meaningless for her to tell everyone that he had taken the initiative to make up with her half a year ago.
“Did you hear him? He cleared things up, just as you asked. It’s you who have been pestering us. You are the other woman.” Adela’s words were dripping with arrogance.
A beat of silence passed, only to be broken by the sudden sound of skin hitting against skin.
Someone was just slapped in the face. It happened so fast that no one had time to react.
Emma withdrew her hand and sneered at Adela. The latter was obviously still reeling from the forceful hit that had landed on her face. “You know the truth. You know who the other woman is.”
“Adela, are you okay?” Harrison scrambled to comfort his woman. He was stunned to see Adela beaten silly like this, and his anxiety went up a notch.
Whether he could get good resources or not all depended on Adela. He couldn’t afford to lose her.
“Emma Lin, are you crazy?” he yelled.
“I’m not crazy. I just happen to see through the kind of people you are.” Emma finally felt happy since she had broken up with Harrison.
James stood at the back with a pleased smile.
James stood at the back with a pleased smile.
That slap was a long time coming, all right. In fact, he thought those two deserved some more beating.
The people hiding out on the second floor were enraptured by the scene as well. “Not bad,” Adrian commented with a measure of glee. “James’ girlfriend looks quiet, but she’s got some spunk.”
“Take them away,” John instructed.
“Copy that.” Adrian took out his phone and called his assistant. “Drive Harrison and Adela out.”
No sooner had he given the order than a group of security guards came in and took the couple away.
“What is this? What do you think you’re doing?” Adela protested. She struggled even as she was being dragged, flailing her arms and screaming.
She never got the answer to her questions.
Now that scandalous debacle was over, the hall returned to peace.
Emma was still in a foul mood, though, and she soon made and excuse to leave. James watched her go, torn between going after her or not. Nina finally stepped in. “You’re going to have to take the initiative if you want there to be a story about the two of you.”
That was all he needed to hear. James chased after his girl.
Left behind with her injury, Nina sat on a nearby chair, and Noah squatted in front of her to check her ankle.
“It doesn’t look serious. I’ll give you a massage.” Noah started to rub her foot, relieved that she wasn’t badly hurt.
It occurred to neither of them that they were doing something inappropriate. Especially not Nina, since she had always treated Noah like brother.
But it appeared differently in the eyes of others.
May took the cue and started with her act once again. “Isn’t it a little improper for him to touch Mrs. Shi like that? An unmarried man and a married woman…”
She trailed off, as if belatedly realizing what she was saying. Her words were directed to Vivian and Jessica, and it was all done on purpose.
Vivian reacted like clockwork, her mind immediately devising a scheme. Here presented to them was an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
“Noah, Nina is married. You will make people misunderstand you if you keep doing that.” Her tone sounded concerned, like a caring sister reminding Noah to pay careful attention to their surroundings. But Vivian made sure her voice was loud and heard by the rest of the guests.
Jessica jumped in, too. “What a disgraceful display. Nina, please stop embarrassing the Shi family with your acts of impropriety.”
