Lily couldn’t tolerate Calista’s indifference and replied coldly, “Don’t jump to conclusions about

Lucian and zne. We’re just friends. Who are you to care for Paul anyway?”

Lily learned about the incident’s details when she passed by the nurse’s station. She had gained

insight into what had happened.

Lily glanced at Calista’s bag and continued, “This restaurant isn’t near the hospital. You do seem

quite considerate. I wonder if you bought something for Lucian, too?*

Just as Calista was about to respond, Lucian exited the room. His injuries had been attended to,

and he was wrapped in white bandages.

Calista couldn’t help but remember Lucian’s words from earlier in the day, and the urge to argue

suddenly vanished

“Instead of hovering around me like a fly, you should focus on how to keep him once our divorce is

final and secure the title of Mrs. Northwood.”

Lucian approached Lily and said, “Let’s go. I’ll drive you back.”

“Alright.”

Lily cast a superior and disdainful glance at Calista, noting that Lucian didn’t even spare her a

glance. It seemed he had truly moved on from Calista this time, which was quite reasonable.

A controlling man like Lucian would likely never forgive a partner for cheating.

Just then, Cade had already completed the discharge registration and was waiting in the car.

Lucian opened the passenger door and got in

“Let’s drop Lily off first.”

Cade asked, “What about you? Are you going back to Everglade Manor? Or maybe you can stay at

my place tonight. You might not even have a gravedigger if things go south in the middle of the

night.”

“There’s no need.”

Cade wasn’t in the mood to persuade Lucian. If Lucian didn’t want to stay with him, so be it.

“Want a drink?” Lucian suggested after dropping Lily off.

Cade fired back.

“Are you insane? You’re in such bad shape, and you want a drink? Are you trying to speed up your

death or what?”

Lucian scowled and looked at Cade’s midsection.

“No wonder Cameron dumped you.”

Cade could pick up the subtle nuances in Lucian’s veiled comment and smirked.

“Drinking it is, then. Let’s go. After all, I’m not the one who’s seriously injured and won’t have to

worry about any soon–to–be ex–wife either.”

Lucian shot back.

“If you think you’re so capable, why don’t you go and win Cameron back?”

Words cut deeper than knives. Lucian’s comments cut deep into Cade’s emotions.

Cade sneered, “You’ve succeeded in alienating everyone who cares about you. Living like a hermit

is what you’ve brought upon yourself. You’ve made your bed, and there won’t be anyone left to

mourn at your funeral.”

Soon, they stumbled upon a bar along the way. Lucian was in a terrible mood and started drinking

heavily to numb his emotions.

Regardless of one’s alcohol tolerance, this binge wouldn’t go unnoticed for long. Before he knew it,

the alcohol began to take its toll on him.

The bar was too loud, and they had to shout to hear each other. Cade didn’t see the point in trying

to console Lucian in such a noisy environment, so he allowed him to continue drinking.

Two hours later, Cade brought the drunken Lucian back to Everglade Manor.

The mansion was empty, and Cade muttered, “Should I find a bodyguard to care for you?”

Lucian wasn’t completely drunk. He had no desire to move or open his eyes.

He raised his arm to shield his eyes from the harsh lights and muttered, “There’s no need. Just go.”

Cade sighed and left for the door without hesitation.

him ”

Lucian needed assistance in his current intoxicated state but felt uncomfortable relying on people he wasn’t close to. That was why he didn’t have any household staff in his mansion.

Calista, who caused the trouble, was expected to care for him.

Once Cade had left, Lily, waiting nearby, entered the mansion. She was worried about Lucian’s

injuries and understood that Everglade Manor had no servant on duty at night.

Additionally, Calista no longer lived there. So, Lily drove to the location. The guards at the

entrance recognized Lily and didn’t stop her.

On the other hand, Calista had been brought back to Everglade Manor by the guard from her home against her will. Calista was already asleep when the guard barged in and still in her pajamas.

Fortunately, her winter pajamas were decent, so there was no need to worry about indecent

exposure.

“Did Lucian send you?” she asked.

Calista had already asked this question on the way, but the guard who brought her over had

maintained a stern, silent demeanor.

Now that they had arrived at their destination, his nerves seemed to relax a bit, and he spoke up, Mrs. Northwood, Mr. Northwood is drunk, and someone must stay with him to ensure his safety.”

Calista remarked sarcastically, “He chooses to drink himself into this state, yet you’re worried

about his well–being?”

She then managed to slip away from the guard’s grasp and headed toward the mansion’s gate.

The guard grabbed her arm again and said, “Mrs. Northwood, you’re going in the wrong direction.”

Calista sighed. Her intentions to leave were clear, but the guard insisted she was going the wrong

way.

Despite her internal musings, the guard remained with her throughout the journey, never letting her go until they reached the mansion’s main door.

He finally released her and said, “Mrs. Northwood, please proceed inside. We’re not permitted to go

in without an invitation.”

Inside the living room, a woman reacted to the noise and began to sit up from the sofa. It was Lily.

While most of her body remained concealed behind the sofa, her neck and shoulders were

exposed and in plain view.
