Darwin’s statement immediately caught everyone’s attention, making him the focal point of the discussion.
“Darwin, do you have a plan?” Jeffrey asked, intrigued by his curiosity. Darwin had always shown intelligence from a young age, often coming up with effective solutions to the family’s challenges.
“Tonight, we’ll hand over the key to the Robertson family,” Darwin suggested, his eyes shining with determination.
His idea left the others shocked.
For the Creek family to give the warehouse key to the very family that had planned Dixie’s downfall and stolen their wealth seemed confusing and counterintuitive.
“Darwin, doesn’t this approach seem…”
Jeffrey began to understand Darwin’s thought process, but he remained cautious in his response.
“Dad, sometimes you have to take risks for potential gains,” Darwin explained. “The Robertson family is hungry for power and wealth. If we offer them the key to the warehouse, we’ll be appealing to their desires. They want to rise to the upper classes of society, and that requires acquiring all the assets of the Creek family. By surrendering the warehouse key, we can exploit their ambitions. I’m confident the Robertson family will be grateful. Once they ascend to prominence and secure a position in the Sun and Moon Chamber of Commerce, they’ll surely extend a favor or two to us.”
“But they’ve already cut ties with Dixie. Will this benefit us?” Jeffrey expressed his concerns.
“Maybe if we voluntarily give them the key, they’ll think that we’re showing them our weakness.”
Jeffrey remained hesitant, realizing that staking over a billion jewels on an uncertain future required considerable courage.
“Leave this to me,” Darwin assured, his determination unwavering.
Darwin spoke up confidently, “Back when Dixie and Francis were still married, I had a close relationship with Francis. We collaborated on a few occasions. I’ll talk to him tonight. I’m sure everything will go smoothly.”
Darwin was highly respected within the Creek family and was considered extremely reliable by all members. Therefore, everyone entrusted him with this task.
The next morning at ten o’clock.
Upon waking up, Lucian noticed that the living room was filled with chatter and laughter. The atmosphere was lively, and Tammy, who had a day off from work, had come over to the villa to play with Freya.
“You’re finally up, Lucian. You sleep like a log. Are you a pig?” Tammy teased.
“I stayed up late last night and couldn’t fall asleep,” Lucian replied with an embarrassed smile.
“Did you do something embarrassing with Freya? Are you tired from it?” Tammy playfully prodded, unaware that Lucian and Freya had not yet slept in the same bed.
“Tammy, don’t talk nonsense,” Freya interrupted, blushing at the topic. She was still quite innocent about such matters.
“Even if I did something embarrassing with her, it’s none of your business, kid!” Lucian quipped, settling into the dining room to enjoy the porridge his mother- in-law had prepared.
“I’m a kid?” Tammy retorted, patting her chest. “I’m in my mid-twenties now, and many of my friends are already parents. I might be a bit slower, but you’re calling me a kid?”
Tammy, with her lovely smile and charming appearance, might not match Freya’s beauty, but she was still an attractive young woman with a nice figure. However, Lucian treated her more like a child.
Noticing that Lucian was not particularly interested in engaging in banter with her, Tammy pouted and fell silent.
“Aunt Dixie, did Francis call you last night?”
When Freya got up to drink water last night, she overheard Dixie engaged in a heated argument over the phone, instantly recognizing Francis’ voice.
“Yes,” Dixie confirmed with a despondent air. “He found out about Xavier’s assault and threatened me to hand over the warehouse key. But the key is with the. Creek family.”
Upon hearing this, Lucian put aside what he was doing and said, “Aunt Dixie, don’t worry. The Creek family will send you the key soon. However, you must promise me that you won’t give the key to the Robertson family. Just keep it.”
“What are you talking about?” Dixie asked, perplexed.
Lucian repeated his earlier statement.
His assertion was met with a wave of incredulous gazes. “Lucian, what nonsense are you talking about?” Freya retorted, shooting Lucian a disapproving look. “The Creek family won’t just hand over the key willingly. Your words will only deepen Aunt Dixie’s sorrow. Can you just shut up and eat your meal?”
“You don’t believe me?”
Lucian glanced at his watch and spoke confidently. “The Creek family will be here within the next twenty minutes to give her the keys.”
“Stop making up stories and finish your porridge,” Annie interjected, serving Lucian another bowl of porridge with a hint of exasperation.
No one believed Lucian. Not even Dixie. She knew the Creek family well, especially Saria’s relentless pursuit of wealth. In her understanding, they would rather let the sky fall than give the keys to anyone, especially to her.
Because in the Creek family, she was never treated as a person, but merely a money-making puppet.
“Why can’t all of you just believe me?”
Lucian asked, a touch of irritation creeping into his tone. Being met with skepticism was not an enjoyable experience.
“This isn’t the time for jokes or wild ideas,” Freya replied firmly.
“Then we’ll wait,” Lucian stated, his mind already devising a plan.
Twenty minutes passed, and the Creek family failed to show up, causing Lucian to frown. Detecting the growing unease among them, he realized that something was wrong. The expressions on their faces indicated that the Creek family was reluctant to hand over the key.
Before Lucian could speak, Dixie’s phone rang, and Francis’s name appeared on the screen.
“Listen, I’ve already told you, the key isn’t with me,” Dixie answered the call, her tone cold.
“I’m not telling you to hand over the key,” Francis sneered. “The Creek family gave it to me. Taking the warehouse key and cutting ties with you was their way of showing sincerity. They’ve signed a cooperation agreement with the Robertson family, forming a partnership where both families will benefit. As for you, you’re just a destitute soul now. Take a good look at your pitiful state. Let me remind you that you’re homeless too. Haha.”
A cooperation agreement between the Robertson family and the Creek family…
And severing ties as a gesture of goodwill.
Upon hearing this news, Dixie was shocked, momentarily losing her ability to think. Her eyes stared blankly ahead as tears involuntarily welled up. She had long known that she was nothing more than a tool for the Creek family, but she never expected their cruelty to run so deep.
In order to protect their interests, they discarded her without hesitation.
Hehehe… what a “wonderful” family.
Francis’s voice continued, “In five days, the Robertson family will celebrate their elevation to a first-tier family at the Four Seas Hotel. I will arrange for someone to send you an invitation so that you can witness the glory of the Robertson family for yourself.” M
These words effectively shattered Dixie’s remaining psychological defenses.
“Ah..”
“Francis, I hope you suffer in hell, you wicked scoundrel. I will never forgive you as long as I live.”
Dixie recognized that Francis was trying to provoke her, but even after ending the call, she collapsed onto the sofa, her tears flowing uncontrollably.
Her world felt cruel, her family heartless, and her husband’s betrayal cut her deeply. Dixie was now in complete emotional collapse, reminiscing about the days when she and Alexander started their business together… The joy and contentment they shared. It had been a time of ease, a time when she felt truly happy.
But after Alexander’s passing, everything changed. She had grown exhausted, everyday filled with weariness. Now, it seemed she had reached her breaking point.
“Aunt Dixie, what’s wrong?” Freya enveloped Dixie in a comforting embrace, her voice filled with concern.
Dixie sobbed in Freya’s arms and told her everything. Before Freya could offer comfort, Dixie withdrew from her embrace and returned to her room. Everyone in the living room could still hear her cries.
Her grievances had become overwhelming.
Holding his bowl, Lucian’s face darkened, his expression as stormy as a tempest, as if he wanted to kill someone.
He did not expect the Creek family’s decision to hand over the key to the Robertson family in exchange for prosperity and abandon their daughter, severing her ties. This left Lucian astonished. It appeared that both the Creek family and the Harrison family were cut from the same cloth.
They’re a bunch of deceitful scoundrels!
“Lucian, you really shouldn’t make such jokes,” Freya scolded. “Aunt Dixie knows her position within the Creek family. You joked about the Creek family surrendering the key, but in reality, they handed it over to the Robertsons while cutting ties with her. I’m speechless.” ↑
Lucian attempted to explain, “It’s the Creek family who failed to keep their promises.”
“Do you find that amusing?”
“Just admit that you’re wrong. Why are you still defending yourself?”
Freya’s frustration was evident. Her concern for Dixie was great, and witnessing her regain her composure only to be hurt again was truly distressing.
“I was doing it for Aunt Dixie’s sake…”
“Is that why you made such an insensitive joke? Do you understand how much pain it causes Aunt Dixie?”
A dispute arose between the two, and the atmosphere became tense.
“Lucian, Lucian, stop it,” Tammy hurried over, pulling at Lucian’s arm and escorting him out of the villa.
Annie quickly stepped in to console Freya.
“Mom, I’m okay.”
Freya glanced at Lucian, who was now being led away by Tammy. She then turned her attention back to Dixie, doing her best to console her amidst the turmoil.
