Charlie put his elbows on the dining table and rested his chin on his interlocked hands as he smiled at

Cecilia.

“Cecilia, are you interested in me?”

Cecilia was not a sucker for good looks and had no prejudice against disfigured faces. However, she

would never fall in love with the little jerk who picked on her and bullied her when she was a child.

“Narcissism is also a disease. You can have it treated in the military hospital along with your face.”

Charlie ignored Cecilia’s sarcasm and said, “I heard your medical skills are pretty good. How about you

treat me?”

“I’m busy.”

Elaine felt the atmosphere was not right, so she quickly smoothed things

over.

“Let’s eat before the food gets cold.”

After saying that, she gave Charlie some stewed pork that Zachary loved

to eat.

“This is from the time–honored restaurant, Chimes Deli. It tastes as good as ever. Try it.”

Charlie looked at the stewed pork on his plate. He suppressed his discomfort and took a bite.

“It does taste the same as before, but I don’t find it that good anymore.”

Then, he put the unfinished piece of stewed pork on the side of the plate. Although it was impolite, he

might vomit on the spot if he took another bite.

Zachary loved fish and meat, while Charlie hated greasy food.

Elaine did not think much about it. After all, people’s tastes changed.

“If you don’t like stewed pork, then eat something else. Ceci is good at cooking. There have to be

dishes to your liking.”

Cecilia glanced at Charlie displeasedly and muttered, “Won’t you even shut up while you’re eating?”

She thought, “Grandma Elaine specifically sent the housekeeper to queue up at Chimes Deli to buy

stewed pork. Even if he doesn’t like it, he

doesn’t have to throw it away after taking just one bite. Sure enough, he is as annoying as when he

was a kid!”

Charlie looked at Cecilia, who had dissatisfaction written all over her face, as he said carefreely, “I have

suffered too much in the past, and now, I don’t want to give myself a hard time anymore.”

Then, he picked up a piece of Elaine’s favorite chili con carne and put it in his mouth.

“It tastes really good. Mrs. Shaw, please try it. I remember you love this dish.”

He could not reveal his identity now, so he could only show his affection to Elaine this way.

Elaine laughed and said, “I didn’t expect a brat like you, who always gets into trouble, to remember

such a trivial thing.”

“Mrs. Shaw, I’m a troublemaker but not st* pid.”

“That’s true. You have been smart since you were small, but it was a pity that you were rebellious and

messed up your studies.”

“Yes, I regret it now that I think about it. If I had been obedient when I was little, my face would not have

been ruined. Fortunately, it was not too late when I came to my senses and started a pharmaceutical

company with an annual income of more than 200 million dollars, which is not bad.”

Hearing that, Cecilia remarked bluntly, “You are illiterate. Why did you want to open a pharmaceutical

company?”

Although her words were blunt, Zachary was indeed poorly educated.

Biopharmaceuticals required professional knowledge and practical skills and not just about talking

eloquently.

Medicine was to be fed into the mouth and applied to the body. The slightest mistake would lead to

terrible consequences.

Therefore, one must at least have some understanding of medicines to open a pharmaceutical

company.

Zachary, who had been wandering outside, obviously did not have the conditions to learn about

medicines.

Charlie smiled and said, “My past is like an interesting storybook. If you want to hear about my stories, I

can tell you some other time. Now, let’s eat first.”

Elaine chimed in, “The dishes are getting cold while you are talking. Let’s eat first and talk later.”

She did not think much about it before but began to scrutinize Charlie after Cecilia had mentioned the

pharmaceutical company twice.

Charlie ate and drank his fill without care.

He put down his fork and leaned lazily on the back of the chair. Then, he said sincerely, “I haven’t

eaten so much in a long time. You’re really good at cooking.”

Cecilia ignored him and ate with Elaine slowly.

Elaine was worried that Charlie would be bored, so she said, “Zachary, the Shaw residence has

changed a lot. You can look around if you like.”

Cecilia did not know whether the man in front of her was an enemy or a friend and thought it was an

opportunity to test him, so she echoed, “Go ahead. Don’t disturb us eating.”

Hearing that, Elaine glared at Cecilia. “Ceci, don’t be rude. No matter what happened between you and

Zachary when you were young, he is a guest. And did you forget what I’ve said to you before?”

What she meant was for Cecilia to apologize to Zachary.

Seeing Elaine’s solemn face, Cecilia also became serious.

She stood up and lowered her head to “Zachary,” saying, “I broke your leg back then. I’m sorry.”

She did not think she was wrong, but she did hit him too hard.

Charlie recalled what Zachary had said to him when the latter was dying. “Charlie, please take care of

my family in the future. If you see Cecilia, please say sorry to her for me.”

In addition to feeling guilty toward his family, Zachary also felt apologetic to Cecilia.

As for his broken leg, he had asked for it and had never blamed Cecilia.

Then, Charlie also stood up and lowered his head to Cecilia.

“I’m sorry for being ignorant back then. I’ve picked on you and bullied you for no reason. It’s my fault. I

deserve to have my leg broken by you.”

Looking at the sincere “Zachary,” Cecilia was taken aback. She thought his attitude had changed too

quickly. It was as if he had split personalities.

Charlie straightened up and said, “Enjoy your meal, Mrs. Shaw. I’ll go for a walk.”

Cecilia looked at his back and said, “What’s with him?”

Elaine also could not understand the current “Zachary.”

He had changed a lot, but his personality was more or less the same as before. Then again, he kept

surprising them with what he said and did.

She looked at Cecilia and asked, “Ceci, you’ve mentioned Zachary’s pharmaceutical company twice. Is

there a problem?”

Cecilia shook her head. “It’s probably because Chris was poisoned, so I became sensitive when I

learned that Zachary has opened a

pharmaceutical company. Besides, the time he came to Acocester was too coincidental.”

Elaine thought so too.

“So, did you invite Zachary to come over for dinner to probe him?”

“Yes. I’ve tried to probe him twice before, but he didn’t answer, which was suspicious.”

After saying that, Cecilia leaned closer to Elaine and said in a low voice, “Grandma Elaine, we have to

guard against him just in case.”

“Okay, it’s up to you. I will support you.”

For Elaine, Zachary was an outsider, so naturally, Cecilia’s safety was more important.

“Then, I’ll go and talk to Zachary again after dinner.”

Even if she could not get an answer from him, she could still get some clues from his attitude.

After dinner, Cecilia went to find “Zachary,” who was wandering in the backyard.
