“Chris, you’re an outsider in this situation. Do you think Charlie is trustworthy?”

She herself had been stuck for two days with no ideas at all.

She herself had been stuck for two days with no ideas at all.
Christopher had devised the plan before they arrived in Acocester.
“Like how we rescued Fiona previously, we’ll use a stand–in.”
At that time, Charlie was not involved, and Christopher’s goal was solely to ensure Cecilia’s safety.
Cecilia hadn’t considered using that approach.
But she doubted that a stand–in would deceive Charlie successfully.
“Chris, Charlie is very clever, and we’ve had several interactions. Trying to deceive him with a stand–in
might not work.”

“I’m not trying to deceive him. I’ll just use the stand–in to test him.”
Cecilia understood now, and her eyes lit up with excitement.
“We’ll find a stand–in and tell Charlie that she’s the stand–in, and then we’ll see how he reacts.”
“Yes. If he’s genuinely a good person, then we could infiltrate Wolf Killer’s internal directly. If he’s a
hypocrite, your safety will not be threatened too.”
“But in doing so, we can’t guarantee the safety of the stand–in.”
Christopher knew Cecilia had a kind heart, especially when it came to her own people.
His slender fingertips landed on her face, carefully tracing her eyebrows and eyes.
“Ceci, some people are meant to sacrifice themselves for others‘ missions. Your life is more important. I
believe the Shaw family will agree with me.”
Then, he added, “Furthermore, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the stand–in will die.”
He would clarify the situation with the stand–in before they took on any tasks.
If the stand–in were to die, he’d offer a hefty compensation to them too.
Yet, Cecilia hesitated. She didn’t want innocent lives to be sacrificed for her.
Christopher saw through her thoughts and said, “Ceci, do you remember the time in the Peacekeeping
Forces when you substituted yourself for a hostage?”
Everyone who has ever participated in Peacekeeping Forces. would encounter such a situation.

But only a few had experienced the act of replacing hostages. Because terrorists weren’t fools. They
will not exchange a non–threatening hostage for a highly skilled member of the Peacekeeping Forces.
Unless…
They intended to eliminate the Peacekeeping Forces member! However, even when knowing they
were heading into a dangerous situation, the members of the Peacekeeping Forces. would still risk
their lives to rescue the hostages
Because it was their duty!
Christopher wanted to use such an analogy to tell Cecilia that the current situation was quite similar to
the act of replacing a hostage.
It’s just that she went from a stand–in to a hostage.
Cecilia certainly understood Christopher’s intention.
But she hesitated for a long time and couldn’t make up her mind.
She wasn’t the type of person who ran away from danger and let others take her place.
Christopher didn’t pressure Cecilia. He continued, “Ceci, if Charlie is trustworthy, then you’ll be the
hidden ace, capable of striking when they least expect it, perhaps even dealing a fatal blow to Wolf
Killer.”
In his opinion, having Cecilia hide herself was far more effective than risking herself.

Christopher breathed a sigh of relief after receiving her consent.
Thankfully, Cecilia wasn’t too single–minded. Otherwise, he would have needed to come out with more
persuasive
arguments.
“We can discuss the plan later. First, we need to find a suitable stand–in. You can leave that to me.”
He could find a stand–in for Yvette, so he could definitely find one for Cecilia too.
Cecilia nodded. “You can start looking for a stand–in, but
whether we use them or not depends on whether we can find a suitable candidate from the
Peacekeeping Forces or from the police.”
It was the two parties‘ duty to become a stand–in.
But when regular people acted as stand–ins, it would mean that they would be sacrificing their lives.
Christopher nodded in agreement.
They continued to discuss the stand–in plan when suddenly, a rumbling noise was heard.
Christopher’s unfinished words stuck in his throat. He glanced at Cecilia and looked out the window.
Unbeknownst to them, the day had turned into night.
He withdrew his gaze and said to Cecilia, “Let’s talk later; it’s time for dinner.”
It was only now that Cecilia noticed the exhaustion that had seeped into Christopher’s features, and his
face turned pale again.
She immediately stood up and said, “Wait here. I’ll head to the cafeteria to grab something simple to fill
our stomach.”

The hospital’s food wasn’t known for its taste. Most of the dishes. were mild and plain, but it was
suitable for patients.
Christopher reached out and held Cecilia’s hand. “Let the nurse do that. You should rest for a while.”
Cecilia not only wanted to grab some food, but she also wanted to go to the laboratory.
Despite having an internal account, she could no longer access. the real–time data after categorizing
the experiment as
top–secret.
“The nurse wouldn’t know your food preferences or what you like to eat. I’ll go.”
After saying that, she left the sterile ward.
Christopher, who had been holding on for over two hours, couldn’t hold on any longer and fell asleep
again.
The nurse in attendance was alarmed when she saw him.
However, she was reassured after checking his vital signs on the ECG monitor.
Cecilia went to the cafeteria.
By now, it was past the regular mealtime, and the cafeteria was mostly empty. Several food stalls had
already closed, and those that remained open had limited options and were far from appetizing.
She had considered using the kitchen to cook dinner herself, but the one she had borrowed in the
morning was closed. And the Director’s phone couldn’t be reached either.
In the end, she spent some money to persuade one of the remaining stalls to prepare two portions of
spinach pasta.
She ate one herself, and the other was sent to the sterile ward for Christopher.

After eating, Cecilia went to the laboratory.
The laboratory was as busy as ever, but the members of the research group appeared much more
content, lacking the furrowed brows and distressed expressions from earlier.
It was evident that the antidote experiment had produced favorable results.
She asked them directly, “How are the drug proportions and side effect research coming along?”
The leader of the research group responded promptly, “We’ve already determined the drug proportions,
but we’re still waiting for the results on side effects. If things go well, we might have them by dawn. If
not, it could take until tomorrow morning.” Cecilia remained silent and picked up the test report to read.
After that, she instructed them to contact her again as soon as the results were out before leaving the
room.
Back at the intensive care unit floor, she was about to perform a disinfection procedure when her
phone rang.
She took out the phone and discovered that the call was from Fiona.
As soon as she answered, she could hear Fiona’s voice, fraught
with anxiety. “Ceci, something had happened to Yvie!”
