Cecilia sized the man up and down.

She thought it was too much of a coincidence that they met twice in succession and that the man had

probably done it on purpose.

Besides, not everyone could enter the military hospital.

Most of the patients here were officials, their relatives, and friends, as well as key suspects in crimes.

Although there were also ordinary patients, they were basically special patients who could not be

treated by the other hospitals but could be saved by the military hospital.

When the man entered the hospital, Cecilia caught sight of his side profile under his cap.

His face was full of scars, and his skin was uneven. He looked terrifying.

She had studied medicine and could tell at a glance that the scars on his face were burn scars.

It was as if his whole face had been immersed in boiling water before.

Every passer–by would avoid him as soon as they saw his appearance as if he were a jinx.

The man did not care about other people’s opinions and went straight to the hospital.

Cecilia withdrew her gaze and drove away.

When she returned to the Shaw residence, Elaine was still taking an afternoon nap.

Bruce brought Cecilia her favorite iced peach juice.

“Ms. Yancey, these are the peaches we grew ourselves. Mrs. Shaw asked the housekeepers to put

them in the cold storage. They are fresh.”

Peaches were ripe in mid–June, while Cecilia usually returned to the Shaw residence in July.

Elaine used to send some to Cecilia before.

Later, a room was specially transformed into a small cold storage for storing seasonal fruits and

melons.

Cecilia took the pink peach juice and felt moved.

“Grandma Elaine is the nicest person in the world!” she exclaimed inwardly.

After taking a sip, she asked, “Bruce, are you familiar with the director of the military hospital?”

Bruce nodded. “Mrs. Shaw goes to the military hospital for body

check–ups every month. I make an appointment with the director for her in advance, so I’m quite

familiar with him.”

Although Bruce was only a servant, he received quite an honor in

Acocester as he had been serving the Shaw family for more than 30 years and had even saved

Elaine’s husband before.

“Bruce, I want to look into someone. If it’s convenient for you, could you please help me to ask the

director about this person’s basic information?”

Knowing that the hospital had a confidentiality principle, Cecilia would not make things difficult for the

director and asked him for the medical records.

In truth, she could hack into the hospital system and investigate it herself.

However, the security system of the military hospital was under the central jurisdiction. She would not

take the risk unless she had to.

Bruce agreed without a slight hesitation and asked, “Who is it, Ms. Yancey?”

“Well, I don’t know his name.”

After saying that, Cecilia described the man’s attire and general appearance. She also told Bruce the

time the man went to the hospital.

With these two things together, it would be easier for them to find out about the man.

As soon as her words fell, Bruce said, “Ms. Yancey, I know the person you are talking about.”

Cecilia looked at Bruce in surprise and asked, “Who is he?”

“Ms. Yancey, do you remember that when you first came to the Shaw residence, you often bullied a

guy named Zachary?”

Cecilia certainly remembered that as she had broken Zachary Jennings‘ leg.

Back then, the Jennings and the Shaw families were neighbors and close to each other.

She was down and quiet when she first arrived at the Shaw residence. Zachary was a rebellious

teenager and would always pick on her.

One day, he finally angered her, and she grabbed a baseball bat and broke his leg.

Even now, she could still remember his hysterical cries.

Because of that incident, the Jennings family held a grudge against the Shaw family and had less

contact with the latter since then.

Later, the Jennings family moved to Jacaster, and she never heard from Zachary again.

Cecilia asked curiously, “What happened to Zachary’s face?”

It could be said that Bruce watched Zachary growing up. The thought of what Zachary had been

through over the years pained Bruce greatly.

“After the Jennings family moved to Jacaster, Zachary became more and more rebellious. Once, he ran

away from home and was captured by a human trafficker. He never came back since then.”

Cecilia fell into silence upon hearing that.

Although it was inappropriate, she wished she could say Zachary deserved it.

“What happened after that?”

“The human trafficker disfigured Zachary’s face with boiling water and forced him to be a beggar. They

cracked his head when he resisted and caused him to lose his memory.”

Cecilia was dumbfounded as it was a very ridiculous plot and sounded like a story.

Bruce continued, “Fortunately, Zachary recovered his memory and escaped after begging for less than

two years. However, he felt ashamed to go home. He stayed out all the time and only returned home

after having a small achievement last year.”

“Why is he in Acocester now?”

“Zachary came to Acocester not long ago, mainly to treat his face since the military hospital has the

best burn unit in the country. Besides, he’s also here to look for Dr. Cohen for psychological

counseling.”

Cecilia had a weird feeling after hearing Bruce’s explanation.

Although there was no loophole in Bruce’s words, she still felt something was amiss.

“Bruce, do you have Zachary’s phone number?”

“No, I don’t. I was accompanying Mrs. Shaw to the hospital for a regular check–up when I accidentally

bumped into Zachary and talked with him. Mrs. Shaw invited him over, but he refused, saying his

appearance was too terrifying.”

Cecilia nodded. “I see. You may leave now.”

After Bruce left, she finished the peach juice in her glass and took out her phone to search for

Zachary.

Zachary runs a biopharmaceutical company, and the mastermind used poison on me. It doesn’t seem

to be related, but Zachary is here in the Acocester.”

Cecilia immediately hacked into Samuel’s clinic system, looked for Zachary’s medical records, and

downloaded them.

At the same time, Zachary received a reminder in the military hospital. He curled his lips into a smile

and whispered, “Cecilia, I’m looking forward to our first official meeting.”

His voice was so low that even Jacob Fox, the professor of the burn unit, could barely hear him.

Jacob looked up and asked, “Zachary, what did you say just now?”

“I said the burn scars on my face were old wounds from years ago. I wonder if it can still be cured.”

Jacob did not dare to make a promise and said in a deep voice, “Your father saved my life. Don’t worry.

I will do my best.”

“Thank you.”

As soon as Zachary finished expressing his gratitude, he received a call from Cecilia.

“Excuse me, Professor Fox, I have to take this call.”

“Go ahead.”

Zachary went to the restroom and closed the door.

“Hello, who’s on the line?” he asked.

Upon hearing a completely unfamiliar voice, Cecilia responded, “I’m

Cecilia Murray.”

She only had a serial number and codename in the assassin organization. After being sent to the

orphanage, she took the director’s surname upon registration.

Later, she was adopted by the Shaw family. In order to protect her, they did not change her surname.

She only changed it after she returned to the Yancey family.

“Dummy, it’s you. Where did you get my number? Are you contacting me to break my leg again?”

“If you offend me, I will not only break your leg but also your neck.”

“Gosh! Why are you getting more and more ruthless now?”

Cecilia wasn’t interested in bickering with Zachary and asked, “Are you free? Let’s meet.”
