Cecilia was not afraid of fighting, but she certainly didn’t like it. So, she ignored the threatened property management staff and called the police.
After explaining the situation, she provided her address.
The phone operator looked at the police records on the computer and said, “The police set off ten minutes ago. They should be almost there.”
Cecilia already knew both Evan and Christopher had sent someone to protect her, so she wasn’t surprised.
“Okay, I see. Thank you.”
After hanging up the phone, she leaned against the wall at the entrance and waited for the police to arrive.
The property management staff continued to knock on the door.
When Cecilia did not respond, the staff was pushed aside by the thugs.
Shortly after that, Cecilia heard a series of rapid banging on her door and what sounded like an attempt to pry open her door lock.
Cecilia didn’t know where those idiots came from. She thought, ‘Did they watch too many movies?
Is the property management group a deity? Who says I have to listen to all their orders?
Do they think the door will crumple like a piece of paper with one smash?
Do they think the lock will give way like butter once they try to pry it?’
As she cursed them out in her mind, the wails of police sirens
reached her cars.

As the police escorted the suspects away, she suggested, “You should do a urine test on them.”
She was basically implying that the suspects had consumed drugs.
While Cecilia couldn’t guarantee that every one of them did drugs, she was confident that two of the men would test positive, given their heavily sunken eyes.
The policeman replied, “Sure, Ms. Yancey. You can apply for police protection before the investigation results are out.”
“No, thank you. Just tell me the investigation results when they’re out.”
“Okay. If you sense any danger, please call the police as soon as possible.”
“I will. Then this door…”
Although the thugs didn’t pry the door open, they had scraped off the paint and damaged the lock.
“Someone will come to assess the damages later, and we’ll compensate you in cash.”
“The cost of my door and lock is not cheap. It’s almost 60,000 dollars.”

Cecilia hurried forward. She looked up at her tall, handsome companion and asked, “When did you arrive? Why didn’t you go in?”
She felt the coldness on his body. Obviously, he had come early in the morning.
“It wasn’t that early. I didn’t come to you for fear of disturbing your rest.”
Cecilia was moved by Christopher’s gentleness.
She much preferred small, caring gestures over sensational displays of romance.
Love was not defined by sweet talk. It was a feeling to be silently integrated into one’s life, which made up for one’s imperfections and made everything right.
She looked up at Christopher, her gaze sparkling.
“You haven’t had breakfast yet, right? There is a sandwich shop nearby; their sandwiches are delicious. I will buy some for you.”
She left right afterward.
Christopher closed the car door and followed Cecilia.
They made such a striking pair that they attracted a lot of attention.
The business of the sandwich shop was so good that the queue spilled onto the roadside.
Cecilia stood at the end of the line.
Christopher asked her quietly, “Why don’t I make use of my money and buy sandwiches for everyone in front of us? That way, it’ll help us cut in line.”

Although there were many customers, the owner of the
sandwich shop moved quickly. A few minutes later, it would be their turn to order.
Christopher nodded and moved to stand beside Cecilia, blocking her from the heat of the blazing sun.
When he took Cecilia’s hand, she didn’t shake it off.
He smiled, and every cell in his body swelled with unspeakable joy.
They didn’t speak, but the atmosphere was incredibly warm and sweet.
The next second, a car suddenly accelerated and rammed straight into them.
Christopher and Cecilia were agile, but the incident happened too suddenly.
As they dodged the car, Christopher suffered a nasty scrape to his right leg while trying to shield Cecilia.
The others nearby weren’t as fortunate. Several people were flung aside by the car, and someone was run over.
