- Season 1 Episode 53 - We Have Some Leads
Elizabeth’s eyes were moist as she spoke. She thought that appearing like this might soften Liam’s heart. But to her disappointment, she waited for what felt like an eternity, yet Liam never uttered any words of persuasion. He didn’t even make an attempt to stop her as she turned to leave. This transformed her feigned sadness into genuine heartbreak.
Elizabeth tightly gripped her handbag, hesitating for a moment before finally turning away.
If an onlooker were to witness this scene, they would undoubtedly feel sympathy for Elizabeth. However, Gwyneth had grown accustomed to seeing Elizabeth in such a state. In comparison, it was the reaction of the man beside her that intrigued her.
“Hey…” Gwyneth began.
Liam was just about to leave when Gwyneth’s sudden remark caught his attention, causing him to pause in his tracks. “What is it?” he
asked.
Gwyneth blurted out her words without thinking, her brain feeling like it had gone haywire. She couldn’t quite comprehend why she was saying this, but the words tumbled out nonetheless. “She came all the way here to bring you homemade pastries, and you didn’t even let
her inside? You didn’t even bother to say goodbye?”
Gwyneth’s mind raced with uncertainty, unsure of what response she hoped to hear from Liam.
Liam’s surprise and realization hit him like a ton of bricks. It dawned on him that he had forgotten to see Elizabeth off this time. It was the
first time such a thing had happened.
Gwyneth observed the slight furrow in Liam’s brows. The moment she sensed his genuine surprise, a flicker of annoyance sparked within her. She looked past him and headed straight upstairs. Á nice, soothing bath was what she needed now.

In the bathroom of the guest room, Gwyneth lay in the bathtub, closing her eyes in bliss. However, her mind couldn’t help but conjure up images. It was the way Liam had stood up for her during the negotiation with Chuck earlier today. She couldn’t understand why he had done it. Though they had clearly defined their boundaries as friends, why would he go to such lengths if they were just friends?
Luther Corporation rarely got involved with government linked agencies and projects. It was a well–known fact within the industry. Gwyneth pondered this in her mind, delving deep into her thoughts. In the end, she resorted to the age–old tactic of burying her head in the sand, something she rarely did.
Gwyneth stepped out of the bathtub and spent a while showering under the rainfall showerhead before leaving the room. She put on a bathrobe and sat in front of the table by the bathroom door, blow–drying her hair. Her pristine white neck was exposed, and her long hair cascaded messily over her shoulders. In this moment, she was in a state of pure enjoyment, completely relaxed.
However, she failed to notice that when she had returned to the room before taking a shower, she had simply closed the door without locking it. With the gusty wind blowing outside, the door was now ajar.
Liam had come upstairs intending to ask his wife if she wanted some dessert, but what he saw when he reached the room door shocked him. What kind of beautiful woman hadn’t he seen before? Almost every kind of beauty would throw themselves at him. But the beauty in
front of him…

Although Liam had previously mentioned to Chuck that Gwyneth’s beauty was nothing extraordinary compared to her skills, he couldn’t help but be stunned by her appearance at that moment.

Fresh out of the shower, Gwyneth’s face was free of any makeup, yet she exuded a mesmerizing beauty. What set her apart was the lack of pretense in her allure; it wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular and held no hint of aggression.
Liam stood at the doorway, his hands clenched into tight fists, palms sweaty. He imagined that if the woman turned around and saw him now, she would undoubtedly express subtle disgust. But the thought was intriguing in its own way, that the term “disgust” could one day
be directed at him.
The buzzing of his phone in his pocket snapped Liam back to reality. Acting swiftly to prevent Gwyneth from hearing it, he turned and briskly walked away, making his way into the study. Once he closed the door behind him, Liam glanced at the caller ID on his phone–it was Larry’s subordinate, the person he had tasked with investigating the previous fire incident.
“Mr. Luther, we have some leads.”
As Liam answered the call, he perked up upon hearing the news on the other end. His demeanor shifted completely from moments ago. He immediately asked, “Do you have any reliable information?”
The subordinate replied, “Based on the clues we’ve gathered so far, it seems that the girl who saved you years ago disappeared after the
incident.”
Liam was surprised. “She’s not in Hestia?”
The subordinate continued, “We can’t confirm that yet. However, what I can say for certain is that she is definitely not in this city.”
Though it was a simple update, it held significant importance.
Liam slowly ended the call, his teeth clenched. If he remembered correctly, Elizabeth had told him that she grew up in local and had never
left.
By evening, at the dinner table, Liam observed Gwyneth sitting on the side, nibbling on a chicken leg. As a prolonged silence hung in the air, he could no longer contain his curiosity and decided to speak up. “Honey, from a non–medical standpoint, how can one differentiate
between new and old scars?”
Upon hearing the question, Gwyneth glanced up from her plate of chicken, emitting a subtle sigh that hinted at her interruption from relishing the savory bite. Carefully, she dabbed her fingers with a napkin, then reached for her phone, retrieving a collection of old medical case photos.
“By comparing them like this, it becomes rather evident, don’t you think?”
