Linda walked inside a restaurant after ordering some dishes for herself and her maid. “What do we do now, Mrs. Linda? We have tried everything from coercion to bribes to threats. But how come none of them have any intel on this masked killer?”

Yalda mulled over the matter for a while as a young girl brought them their meals. “Isn’t it possible that the killer obtained such a treasure from a grand mage? Because I don’t see any reason why a grand mage does something like that.”

“That’s what I am assuming right now. It’s against the pride of a mage of such stature. He must have obtained it from some expert and then used it to plan this murder.” Yalda nodded, focussing on her meal.

“Still, there is one thing that doesn’t make sense.” Swallowing the bite, she let her face rest in her palms. “Why would someone go after master? I don’t remember any feuds that would warrant such heavy-handed revenge.”

“I know. That’s what troubles me the most. I have a hunch that their murder is related to the task assigned by the royal court…??” Yalda saw her lady frown mid-way through her sentence. “Did you conclude, madam?”

Linda ignored her words for a while before she came up with her answer. “Didn’t the royal court assign them to investigate the demonic activity near a border town?” “Yes. It’s named Korua, very close to the borders.”

“So, what if someone is trying to hide their findings?” “Hmm.. but why so? Didn’t they already send preliminary findings to the court? As far as I know, they found no evidence of any such activity.” Linda nodded her head before chugging down another mug of alcohol.

“But that doesn’t change the fact that it was a ‘preliminary’ report. What if they truly found something about the matter and the killer came to know about it? That should give them enough reason to silence not only Jacob but Samuel as well.”

Yalda’s eyes were wide open as her mind ran through the simulations again and again. Finally, Linda saw her stare back at her. “And if he knew the results of the investigations..” “That means it was someone who had been close to them or at least close to the investigations, all along.” Linda completed her sentence.

A vicious smile was appeared on her face, revealing her long canines. “Tomorrow morning… we are leaving for that bloody town.” She chugged the leftover wine from her mug and devoured her food like a wild cat.

Two more days had passed Ryu was training with Emma, in one of the training grounds that belonged to the Dark Wings. It was a good 20 by 20 meters room with walls that can take a heavy beating. “Burn!!” The woman in front of him filled her lungs with air and the next moment, a massive tongue of flame was blasted towards the boy.

Caring for Kira for a while, he brought her back to consciousness. He explained the scenario slowly, for her brain to be able to digest it. It took him great efforts just to make her believe that he was not lying to her. Finally, the girl accepted the truth with a gleeful expression.

“Let’s return home. I think Ruth would have been done till now.” He had assumed that the woman would have put the ladies to sleep already, but instead found each of them still awake. “Is there an issue?” “Huh.. ask them.”
