THE ISLAND WOLF - EPISODE 69
“Fiorella,” Dakar called and she gently looked up at him.
“This night, I’m being nice, I agree. Because it’s your first night here. You’re human, I’m not. Or at least, I’m not fully human. If it was a shifter female sitting down there right now, I might not be this cool. Wait, she wouldn’t even be sitting right now. But I’m being considerate to you, because you’re human,” he spilled out. Avril almost rolled her eyes at his speech.
“So? I should worship you for that?” she asked sarcastically. His smirk formed on his face again and he rubbed the side of his nose with his index finger.
“Yes. You should,” he answered.
“I won’t do that. You’re just a normal person to me. I won’t fear you. I don’t fear anyone,” Avril retorted and his eyes dilated a bit. Wow, her voice sure sounded brave. He knew his Avril was stubborn, but not too brave. This woman here was showing tiny signs of bravery. It was at the tip of Dakar’s tongue to ask her what happened to her those two years they were separated. But he couldn’t. He wanted to hug her and pin her to his chest, make his body feel her warmth again. But he couldn’t. If only he could call her Avril, and tell her he was her Island Wolf. Tell her he remembered every part of their memories. Tell her he knew he was the friend she was talking about. But hell no, he couldn’t. Wasn’t this torture too?
Anthena made it clear that he should not let her know he was the same one she knew on that island. He shouldn’t make her realize he was her island wolf. He told her it was because of the memories that were not just good, but bad. He had tried to kill her more than once on that island and Dojo was the cause. She knew about his weaknesses and his full story. If anyone perceived she knew a bit of what happened to him both on the island and how he disappeared, then she would turn to a prey. Anthena said it was better to make her bury those memories and create new ones, so she wouldn’t be used. Werewolves weren’t the only beings in the world. Vampires existed, witches, demons, dragons and elves existed too. Good and bad still existed. Each being had abilities and they could read the mind of a mere human like Avril and use her against him. And as far as Dakar could still remember, he had enemies. He wasn’t clean even before he realized he had a curse.
So, he was going to love Fiorella now, not Avril. She didn’t have to know he knew her. It didn’t matter. But, a part of him did not wish for her to forget their memories. He couldn’t forget, he didn’t want her to forget completely either. Just a single herb could erase her mind but he couldn’t. How could he make Avril forget that she alone made him a housekeeper? The thought of him waking up very early to make breakfast and fearing to not make it on time before she was up made him chuckle. He dreaded Avril’s hungry side. Was she still like that?
At that point, she yawned.
“How many hours does it take for fish to get baked? Don’t tell me Remus fish is tougher than our normal fish too!” she raked with a deep frown. A smug smirk appeared on his face. He had gotten his answer too quick. Avril was still like that.

“It’s just been ten minutes, Fiorella. Five minutes more,” he mused as he looked at her. She pouted and took the remnant of her juice in one gulp, like she was taking a tequila shot. Dakar’s eyes furrowed. Where did she learn to do that?
“F*ck! I’m hungry,” she cussed and his jaw dropped open. When did she start cussing? What happened to her?
His eyes caught sight of a mark on her arm, a very faint mark that only his kind could see clearly with their vivid eyesight.
He walked to her and held up her hand.
“Fiorella, how did you get this?”
“Get what?” she got on her feet and looked at the spot. She couldn’t see the mark at first, but then she realized what happened to her there and she finally saw a very light peach line.
“Oh that? I was running after a man who was stealing information from us. He was selling this info to a drug cartel about our operations and where we hid our sh*t. We found out and I decided to deal with him myself. I got that mark because his knife brushed through my arm as I pushed it back to stab him. I wasn’t supposed to bring him back dead so I pushed it into his arm instead,” Avril explained without even thinking. Her eyes were on the faint mark so she didn’t realize Dakar’s eyes had widened in shock as he stared at her.

Avril woke up in Dakar’s magnificent bed. She was covered with his thick and red comforter, and the sunlight from the open window kissed her face. She sat up and stretched. She was wearing her clothes from the previous night. Wait… How did she get into bed?
Her eyes widened as she looked around the room. How did she come in there? She remembered having dinner with Dakar. But that was all. She didn’t remember anything at all. Did she sleep off and he carried her up? Where was he?
She climbed out of the bed and saw her shoes at the foot of the bed. She wore them and looked around for any sign of him. She looked back at the bed and saw that the other side was rough too, which meant he had also slept on the bed. She looked at the nightstand and saw a neatly folded paper on top with FIORELLA written on it. She picked and opened it. It said; You’re returning tonight too. Your breakfast is downstairs. Just eat and go home for now. PS, last night was hot.
She felt her face burn red.
“Liar,” she gritted. She knew quite well with the way she felt that she wasn’t touched last night.
