THE CROWN - EPISODE 45
I heard someone screaming my name from my sleep. That must be mother’s voice, I groaned and fell off the bed.
“Nwa agbọghọ a ọ ka na-arahụ ụra n’oge a?” She said from outside
My eyelids flattered open, I stood up quickly and waited for her to come in. She looked at me strangely
“Mmesoma is waiting for you outside” she stated.
“I will be out soon” I replied. She still stood there, I was dying for her to leave already.
She turned and walked out.
“Mo wa sibe ni ile baba mi, What a dream!” I exclaimed looking around. I was in the room in my parent’s house.
“Adenike!!” I heard Mmesoma yell from outside. I quickly changed my wrapper and ran outside.
“anwụ na-ada o”
I ran pass her to the backyard, my mother’s pot are still complete. I thought those girls broke one at the stream…
I ran back to Mmesoma
“You seem disorganized” she said. I ignored her… I was more concerned about the wrapper I had on.
We headed out. I couldn’t get my mind off the kind of dream I had earlier. It was too real to be untrue.
Mmesoma kept talking about the dance for the prince.
“Wait! We still haven’t danced for the prince” I asked her.
“Are you trying to be funny? Cause it doesn’t suit you. Do you have what to wear for the dance?”
I looked at the wrapper around my waist and on my chest. They were no beads in my wrist or on my neck.
I looked back and no guards or maids escorted me and here I was walking to the stream with a pot in my hand.
people walked pass me without greeting.
I stopped walking and she did too
“You don’t look okay, ogini?”
She adjusted the pot she was holding and moved closer to me.
“So the crowned prince is not married yet?”

She looked at me confused and gave me a look
“I’m still at my parent’s house” I added.
She moved and touched my neck and forehead, checking my body temperature.
“Are you sure you’re not sick? You woke up late today and you’ve been acting strange”
I turned back to the road and started walking, she followed.
We both kept quiet till we got to the stream.
Some maidens were present and indeed nobody acknowledged my greetings.
They left and was just me and Mmesoma.
“I had a dream” I blurted. She stopped splashing water and paid attention.
“In the dream I was married to the crowned prince, Chi became pregnant for him and the Ikeanja sacri…..”
She rushed and covered my mouth with her palm. She looked around hastily
“Thank God nobody is here” she sighed and released my mouth.
I looked around too
“What sort of dream was that? We both know that you’re ineligible to marry the crowned Prince” she whispered.
I looked down, why do I feel this way? We’re even yet to have the dance. Is this some sort of revelation?
“Beautiful maidens of Umuagwo”
I raised my head and it was Emenike. Mmesoma got up and patted his arm, he laughed.
I stood up and looked at him, dumfounded
“Greetings my pri…. Emenike”
They both stared at me confused and I was too. All that was a dream? It wasn’t real?
I had too much going on in the dream.
