voice choked with emotion. “You must be a good boy and listen to Grandma, okay? I promise I’ll bring

Liam back The little cherub stared at her, his bottom lip trembling as if he was about to cry but held

back. He reached out his tiny hand, gently caressing her face.

“Kane!” Aureila clutched her son’s hand, her heart bleeding as if it was being sliced by a knife.

She didn’t want to leave him, but Liam was still in danger. Leopold might have abandoned him, but she

couldn’t. To a mother, her children were more important than her own life,

The night was deep.

Aurelia couldn’t sleep, holding her son tightly in her arms, gazing at him with reluctant eyes, as if trying

to etch every detail of his face–his eyes, nose, mouth… into her heart,

She didn’t know when she would be able to return, or if she could survive to return at all.

If tonight was a final farewell, she wanted to engrave everything about her son into her soul, so that

The little boy nestled against his mother, sleeping peacefully. His tiny hand still clutched her dress as if

afraid she would leave.

After feeding Kane, she took him out into the yard to bask in the sun.

“Kane, you must miss Liam too, right? Once Mommy brings Liam back, I’ll stay with you both every day

and never leave again. Even if Daddy wants to kick Mommy out, Mommy won’t leave, because Mommy

needs to protect you from the bad guys!”

Jolin watched her daughter from the doorway, cleaning her tears. When Laura approached, she quickly

dried her eyes. “Aurelia, it’s time for lunch, hand Kane over to Laura.”

Aurelia gazed at her son one last time, bent down, and kissed his head with a heart full of pain.

“Kane, Mommy has to go now. Mommy loves you, so so much.”

For lunch, Aurelia ate very little.

As she put down her fork, she suddenly clutched her stomach. “Mom, my stomach hurts so bad, it’s

killing

me.”

Jolin shrieked in alarm. “Aurelia, did you hurt your womb doing yoga this morning? We need to get you

to the hospital right away.”

Ferne quickly arranged for a car after hearing this, and they helped Aurelia into it.

Once they arrived at the hospital, Aurelia was taken into the examination room.

Jolin and Ferne waited outside.

Jolin held her forehead. “Ferne, I think I’m just too nervous. I feel dizzy and nauseous. Can you help

me to the restroom?”

Chapter 297

“Sure.” Without thinking twice, Ferne helped her towards the restroom.

Behind them, a figure slipped out of the examination room and quickly disappeared down the corridor.

At the Grand Cloud Hotel.

Despite the rush, the engagement party was still a grand affair.

Evelyn, dressed in a stunning white gown, looked radiant.

Callie carefully attended to her. “You’re expecting now, so you need to be careful. You can’t be as

impulsive

as before.”

“I know, Mom,” Evelyn replied, patting her stomach for effect. Nobody knew about her fake pregnancy,

not even her parents. She was not worried about being found out; she would be pregnant sooner or

later anyway!

The ceremony started without any hitch.

A priest took the stage to make a speech, and then the feast began.

All the traditional rituals were skipped.

The Alcotts knew Leopold was not one for public affection, so as long as the formalities were observed,

they were satisfied.

Leopold was distracted the whole time. He hadn’t slept a wink last night. Ever since he left the villa, he

had a bad feeling, as if something terrible was about to happen.

Suddenly, his phone rang. It was Ferne.

“Mr. Leopold, it’s terrible. The Madame has disappeared!”
