“It’s your issue, I have no place for a malicious woman in my life,” Leopold’s words were as icy as a

winter’s day, ruthlessly cold.

Elowen felt dizzy, her eyes moist, every nerve in her body twisted in agony. “Everything I did, I did it

because I loved you too much. Do you think Evelyn is any better than me?”

“If she dares to stir up trouble, I’ll send her packing just the same, nobody is an exception!” Leopold

answered, his tone filled with unyielding determination.

Elowen whimpered, tears falling down. “Mom, he wants to break off our engagement. I can’t live

without him.”

Elara cradled her, her shoulders shaking unconsciously. “Leopold, how much I’ve cherished and

protected you since your childhood, have you forgotten all of that?”

Leopold’s eyes narrowed as he looked at her, the deep coldness in his eyes glittering under the light. “I

haven’t forgotten. You’ve just gone too far! Do you really think I wouldn’t have found out about what

happened with Megan? Should I just watch as the women in my life are picked off one by one?”

Elara’s face turned as white as her daughter’s. “What happened with Megan isn’t as simple as you

think.”

Leopold knew she was just an accomplice, but she was no less guilty.

He had been investigating the incident from three years ago and vowed to expose whoever was behind

the plot against him and Megan, no matter what it took.

“Elara, this farce is over. From now on, Elowen is just my cousin!” With that, he tore their marriage

contract to pieces without any hesitation.

“No-” Elowen let out a strangled scream, collapsing onto the floor in tears.

Jessica watched from above, sighing helplessly. She knew her son was going to break off the

engagement sooner or later.

Leopold let the pieces of the contract fall to the ground, feeling a sense of relief he had never

experienced before. It was as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

“I will announce this formally at a family meeting tomorrow.” With those final words, he turned and

walked upstairs.

Elowen crawled over and picked up the fragments, wailing in despair. Her world, her hopes, her love

had all crumbled overnight. Elara felt her nerves quiver. She never thought that the most ruthless and

cold–hearted person in this family would be her own nephew, far surpassing her older brother.

The social circles were abuzz.

News of Mr. Leopold’s broken engagement with Elowen spread like wildfire overnight, with spectators

churning out various versions of the story.

It was too sudden for her to accept it. She was shocked that the big boss could be so furious for the

sake of a woman, it was jaw–dropping!

Some people were probably drowning in their tears, and others were popping champagne in

celebration. Isn’t it said that only the newly happy are seen, and the old sorrow is hidden?

She sighed. What was she in this scenario? A soon discarded wife?

She played some music for her unborn children and lay on the bed, gently stroking her belly.

With her eyes closed, she sighed from time to time, completely unaware that someone was silently

standing by her bed.

“What are you sighing about?” Leopold’s deep voice startled her, she almost jumped off the bed.

Her large eyes stared at him, wondering if she was hallucinating. Shouldn’t he be at Evelyn’s house

right now, celebrating with champagne?

Instinctively, she reached out to touch his face. His skin was warm, very smooth, he was real!

She felt a tremor in her heart. What was she doing?

Her cheeks flushed, flustered, she tried to retract her hand but he caught it lightning fast, saying, “are

you trying to seduce me?”

She quickly shook her head, feeling utterly embarrassed. “No, I thought I was dreaming. I just wanted

to

confirm.”
