“Mr. Leopold, we’ve covered all the prenatal classes. Can I take off now?” Aurelia attempted to rise, but

his arm wrapped around her waist, strong and immovable.

Leopold’s brows furrowed slightly, his face darkening at the thought that she might be fond of Arnold.

So he said, “I won’t be around tonight, but you should stay at home.”

Aurelia felt frustrated. He could have fun with his sweetheart, but she had to stay home alone? How

was that fair?

Taking a deep breath, she swallowed her resentment.

She can’t go head–to–head with steel. And she needs to be clever, to find a softer, more effective

approach. After all, he wouldn’t be around. Who was he to stop her from going out and having a good

time?

“Fine, I’ll stay home. Maybe I’ll catch up on some Netflix or chat with friends on WhatsApp. That doesn’t

sound too bad.”

A spark flashed across Leopold’s eyes. Chatting with Arnold on WhatsApp?

“You sure know how to attract attention.”

She straightened her back, grinning broadly with a hint of mockery, “I can’t help being popular. I was

the apple of many guys‘ eyes back in college. If I were to post on Facebook that I’m looking to get

married, I bet there would be a line of guys ready to propose.”

Leopold’s lips tightened, his handsome face clouded over, a storm brewing in his eyes. “Remember,

any guy who wants you has to get through me first,” he said, each word forced between clenched

teeth.

She shrugged nonchalantly, “I’ll keep that in mind. And your future girlfriends will have to get sterilized

first. I’ll even accompany them to make sure they’re completely infertile, just to ease your mind.”

As she spoke, a vengeful smile spread across her face. She was curious to see if he could bear to see

his beloved hurt.

Leopold’s gaze darkened, as chilly as a centuries–old well. After a moment of silence, he released his

hold around her, “You can leave now.”

Aurelia figured that he must be concerned for his woman Evelyn.

Having lost Megan, his loved one, how could he bear to hurt Evelyn, the perfect substitute?

Feeling a twinge of bitterness, she rose and walked out. As she entered the office, all eyes were on

her.

Everyone on the floor knew that she was about to be “persuaded” to leave by the big boss.

Emma immediately stood up to mock her, “Aurelia, I heard Mr. Leopold called you in for a chat. Did he

ask you to withdraw from the competition? Are you going to resign out of despair? I’ve told you before

that you should know your limitations. Don’t wait till you’ve hit rock bottom to realize your worth.”

Aurelia quickly hid her disappointment and laughed, “What are you talking about? He’s a big shot in the

business world. Would he do something as petty as that?”

Emma was sure that Aurelia was just trying to save face, “So why did Mr. Leopold call you in?”

Aurelia sat down at her desk, took a sip of water, and calmly replied, “We had some fruit and chatted

about the company. Mr. Leopold appreciates me. He thinks I’m optimistic, diligent, and intelligent. He

wanted to discuss some ideas for innovating our Design Department, like new plans, staff changes,

and so on.”

She deliberately stressed the words “staff changes,” causing a stir among her colleagues.

Chapter 224

Emma scoffed, “That’s impossible. Why would Mr. Leopold discuss those matters with you instead of

Evelyn?”

Aurelia shrugged, “Well, I’ve been here longer than Evelyn, who just joined. Who else knows the

problems left behind by Kelly?”

A cold light flashed in Evelyn’s eyes. When she was with Leopold, they never talked about work. After

all, she had higher ambitions. She wanted to become the lady of the Stirling family!
