TEMPTING THE DEVIL - EPISODE 19

I woke up to see myself laying in the bathtub. Thankfully I didn’t drown in the process.

Staring at the cloud, I knew I have woken up earlier than I should. I tied my towel around my waist, brushing my teeth.

I spent the rest of my time pressing the clothes I’d used for the rest of the days while I waited for the time to turn 6am.

I went down to make myself coffee. After drinking the coffee, I laid on the couch. I didn’t know when I dozed off.

I woke up again, thank goodness the cloud isn’t cleared yet. I went back to my room, changing to my working dress.

I picked my car key from the lamb stand, trailing down to the garage. I hoped in, started the engine before zooming out of the compound.

~ AT THE COMPANY ~

Ruthie was just leaving Mr Thompson’s office when I got to my desk. For the first time since I know Ruthie she was coming to work this early.

Not that she doesn’t come early, don’t get me wrong. I meant so early like today. She was about going to her desk, but as soon as she saw me, she headed to my direction.

” And finally, she came to work.” She said, hanging her hands in her waist. ” You weren’t answering my calls, any explanation for that? ”

” Ruthie.. it’s complicated. ”

” I don’t care how complicated it is that I called you ten good times but you didn’t pick any. Okay, fine you didn’t answer during the day, I understand how busy you must have been.

But you not picking up during the night means something isn’t right. ”

” Honestly, Ruthie, I’m not even with my cellphone right now. So, I honestly didn’t know you called. ”

” What happened to your cellphone? ” She asked.

” I was kidnapped the night I dropped you off. I was returning from where I had bought snacks for dinner, then I saw this group of guys… six of ’em.

They drugged me and took me to nowhere. Just yesterday, they had me for a bait. Fortunately, someone bailed me out, that’s why I’m here today.

Luckily they didn’t do anything to my car but, I don’t have a phone anymore. I’m planning on buying a new one today, but that’d be after work. ”

” Or you can just purchase it online. ” She suggested.

” I don’t fancy online businesses. ”

” What happened to your cheek? ” I quickly dressed the hair which I had used to cover up the scars. ” Did they hurt you?”

I nodded my head at her. ” Does it still hurt? ”

” Not like the one on my waist. ”

” Can I take a look at it? ” I slightly rose my shirt up for her to see the scar on my waist.

” Ouch! That looks pretty bad. I think you should report to the police. ”

” I can’t. ”

” Why? ”

” You know the man those gunmen were looking for at the beach?”

She nodded. ” De Conto? ”

” He’s the man who did this to me. And I doubt he stays around here. ”

” Why do you say so? ”

” He’s a Mexicana. It will be a lot difficult to find him.”

” I think we’ll both have to purchase dinner together and as soon as you drop me off, you’ll head straight home. Okay?” I nod at her. ” I don’t want this to repeat itself again.”

I forced a smile on my face. ” Don’t force it out, I understand.”

I had purchased both my phone and dinner just as Ruthie instructed before driving her back home. I didn’t stop, so I headed straight to the Luciano’s mansion.

I massaged the new gel relief cream on my waist, groaning at the inching pains I felt. ” F*ck!” After, I drank the pain relief tablet to ease the pain.

I couldn’t sleep as the pain burnt on my skin. Laying down was the biggest issue I was having then to talk of shutting my eyes close.

I felt like taking a soft drink, so I left my room heading down to the fridge. From the staircase I could hear sound of punches and blows.

I was wondering who it might be that was receiving the hard hits. Surprised, I saw Draco stepping from the body of the victim laying helpless on the floor.

Someone handed him a white handkerchief which he had used to clean off the blood stains on his hands.

Looking at Charles, he said. ” Finish him.” He ordered.

Charles had got the bullet ready, almost about to pull the trigger when his eyes met Natalie as she was standing mutely watching them.

Draco noticed the delay, ” I said f*cking shoot him!!” He yelled.

He followed the direction of Charles gaze only to see Natalie standing. Natalie removed her eyes, walking to the kitchen, pretending like she hadn’t seen a thing.

But it was obviously clear that she did see some thing.

She had lost the appetite to drink soft drinks so she drink water instead.

” Don’t say a word about what you saw.” She flinched at his voice, he was standing by the door.

” I don’t know what you’re talking about. ” She said.

” Don’t try playing games with me, Miss Bradeson. I know you saw what happened, and I know you saw it all. ”

” I didn’t see anything. ”

He chuckled, walking close to her. ” If you wanna stay on the safe side, don’t even think about writing an article on this or I’m gonna have you dead myself. ”

Natalie felt a hard hit on her chest. Did he just threatened to kill her??

The deepness and seriousness of his voice frightened her as if someone was pointing a sniper 3d right on her forehead.

” Take him to the basement, you know what next to do.” Natalie could hear his voice from the kitchen.

” Please. Please, don’t kill me, I swear I didn’t steal your money. Believe me, I swear. ” He begged but his pleas all went to dead ears.

Natalie shut her ears from hearing anything. He was turning into some thing dangerous than just a Drug Lord.

~ The Next Day ~

I kept flipping the pages of my article, I can’t believe I spent the whole night writing about nothing. I was reading through the story only to find out that it doesn’t make any sense at all.

I kept it aside, taking a few new pages from my drawer. I started with the title, it’s always the Mafia’s again.

I was growing sick and tired of the story, and my brain was completely empty to write a thing about them this time.

Mr Thompson always talk of me to have the best Mafia article, but I think this time, he’s gonna have me as the worst.

Ruthie sat on my table, dropping hers on my desk. ” I can’t believe I’m done with my story. What about yours?”

I pointed at the blank pages laying on my desk. ” That’s mine.”

” Seriously? A whole Natalie Bradeson hasn’t written anything yet?” She exclaimed, surprised.

” I have, last night. But when I read it this morning, it doesn’t make any sense. I can’t give it to Mr Thompson, he’s gonna spank on me for this.” I picked the annoying story up, dropping it angrily back on the table.

” Maybe I’ll just have to give him some crazy excuses and have it submitted tommorow. I think that’s the only option now.”

” What’s going on?” Ruthie asked, staring out as everywhere walked to the same direction.

I turned to look, ” Let’s go check it out.” We left my desk to where they hung the big television.

” De Conto has been arrested.” Ruthie said excitedly. ” Finally, the police has him under custody.”

But that wasn’t the problem inside my head, I was a bit happy I didn’t say a word about Draco to him. If not, they’d have been coming for him too.

His case was something the president will handle, for he was one of the deadliest Mafia Lord in the state.

One by one the police are having them all. And very soon, just very soon, Draco Luciano will be next.
