TEMPTING THE DEVIL - EPISODE 11

” Why don’t you get to know each other?” Mr Luciano said, to us.

I looked at the scary figure standing before me, his face wasn’t that to be talked to.

And even if I wanted to ask him just his name, his facial expression alone is enough to say a big ” No” to him.

” I would like to but, Mr Thompson called me few minutes ago. He wants me to work on an article about the current story on net.

I’m sorry I have to leave so soon, I wish I can make it up to you. ” I sincerely apologise.

” No. No, don’t worry, child. You are free to go, I’ll meet you at home.” He permitted.

” Thank you. See you at home then. ” I looked at Draco Luciano who said nothing but stared at me from head to toe.

” I… It’s nice meeting you, Mr Luciano.” I forced a smile which he did nothing in return.

I could feel his eyes following me until I was out from the building.

I didn’t realize I held my breath until I finally stepped out, exhaling heavily.

” Shit.” I cursed.

I boarded a taxi which stopped before me. Turning back, I stared back at the building for the last time, before entering into the waiting taxi.

” Where to, Miss?” Asked the driver.

” Berwick’s avenue, please.” I said.

” Yes, ma’am.” He started the car and we zoomed off from the club house.

To be honest, Mr Thompson never called me, and there’s definitely no story to write about.

I just want to get the hell out of that place… For good.

With the way he always stared at me back in the club house, I felt real uncomfortable.

It made me feel like he was studying me and any second from now, I’d be considered dead.

Even till now, I find it hard to believe that Mr Luciano was an Ex Drug Lord.

And now it has been passed down to his son. Does that mean Dad isn’t aware of his best friend’s occupation?

Or, what if dad knew but decided to keep it as a secret to avoid staining their relationship.

Or what if… He (my dad) is also among the group but they end up using their company as a camouflage to avoid suspicion?

I’m totally confused right now! What if none of my suggestions are correct? Or am I the one thinking all this to be the exact suggestions?

When the taxi driver stopped at the front of the compound I didn’t know.

My thoughts were way far from earth as you can imagine.

” Miss?” I finally heard him after so many calls.

” Yes. Yes. ”

” We are here. ” I looked at the black gate with a golden mixture on it, sighing.

” Yeah. How much is for the ride?” I asked, unzipping my small handbag.

” Five dollars.”

I took a note of five dollars from my handbag, stretching it out to him.

I stepped out of the car, making my way into the building. I had a quick shower, pulled my night dress on before throwing myself on my bed.

” What a night?”

An idea pooped into my small skull and I quickly grabbed my laptop from where I had kept it.

I typed his name into the net. Not the name you think. I meant his other name, ‘Christopher Adams. ‘

I saw a lot of people bearing this same name. When I clicked on his profile, I was shocked to read that he has been documented with so many crime act.

Not just that, he seems to have a lot of different profiles bearing different names each.

Each profile recorded different evil act he had committed. ” You f*cking kidding me, Mr Draco Luciano?” I scoffed.

” So this is what you are? F*ck me.”

I picked my phone from my corner, dialing dad’s number. In the second ring he answered.

” Hello.” He sounded from the other side.

” Hey, dad.” I greeted. ” Hope I ain’t disturbing?” I asked, concerned.

” No, not at all. Is there a problem?” He asked.

” I… well, I really can’t tell but… I think there is.”

” Which is?”

” Uhm… It’s about Mr Luciano and his son.”

” Okay, what about them?”

” Are you aware of Mr Luciano’s son being a Drug Lord? ”

He paused for a while before replying a, ” Yes. ”

” Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

” I felt that it wasn’t necessary. And besides, telling you might make you change your mind from staying over with them. ”

” It doesn’t matter, dad, I need to know. ”

” Is he wanted again? ” He asked to my greatest surprise.

” Has he been wanted before?” I asked him, sounding like I haven’t heard of the fact that he’s been wanted for almost years of his life.

” It’s almost like every year he is recognized all over the media. ”

” Why haven’t the cops taken him under custody yet? ”

” He has a lot of profiles with different crime accusations. It’s hard to find the actual profile about him. ”

” I can write an article about him. With Mr Thompson’s help, we can make him viral. ”

” Nat, don’t think about doing anything stupid. This people aren’t just ordinary Drug Lords, they are more of it.

And they don’t care who is who, as far as what ever action they take will protect both them and their business, they will do it.

You don’t want to end up with your mother, especially at this your young age. Please, let things be the way they are and let the government run their job. ”

” There are many death cases reported, keeping quiet will only make things worst. Not just their fellow Drug Lords are killed, innocent people are too. ”

” I understand how thoughtful you are to help, but this is beyond your expectations. ”

” Are you into the business too? ”

” What?! Natalie, why would you think I am? ” He asked, a bit annoyed.

” Because you talk like you are scared you might end up being exposed too. And don’t worry, I get it. I’m not reporting any one and I am definitely not writing an article on it either. ”

” Natalie. ” He called with a pause. ” You don’t trust me anymore? ”

” I do, but I think I don’t anymore. Especially in the fact that my father is a member of the drug gangs. How sure am I that mother wasn’t killed because of this dirty business? ”

” Natalie, do not say that to me. I love your mother more than anyone and she knows that too. I would never do any thing to hurt her.

I am not into any dirty business, I run my company and you know that. Everyone does. I don’t know what you saw or what ever it is they told you, and I don’t care either.

You can go ahead suspecting me for all I care but that doesn’t change the fact that I love you and your mother. I’ll get back to you when you’ve calmed down. ” He cut call.

I do trust Dad more than anything or anyone, I’m only curious about his relationship with Mr Lucky.

One can easily suspect that they both have some thing in common with the way they are so close to each other.

But now it has turn out that he isn’t into it. Despite knowing the danger in making friends with Mr Lucky, he still went ahead having him along.

As soon as dad calms down, I’m gonna do what I can to convince him about breaking whatever ties he has with Mr Luciano. He has to by all means end whatever it is he has to do with Mr Luciano and his son.

Running two different companies is really not that easy, but it’s a lot better than rotting in jail for damn eternity.

I have never seen dad act the way he acted and since I was little, he has never rose his voice on me.

So, I won’t blame him for acting the way he did few minutes ago.

It was 10:46pm that night when I heard the sound of a knock at the door. I dropped my laptop on the bed, heading down the stairs to open the door.

” You’re back.” I said, shutting the door after him. ” Hope the ball party did end well?”

” Of course.”

” Would you mind for anything? ” I asked, heading to the fridge.

” Yes, anything. ”

I offered him a glass of whiskey, sitting on one of the sofas. ” I wish you had stayed a bit longer. But don’t worry, I understand, your work matters first. ”

” Have you met with my son before? ” He asked.

” Huh? ” I pretended not to have heard what he asked.

” My son, Draco, have you two met before?”

” No, today is my first. Why?”

” The way you two stared at each other back at the house, it seemed you two have met some how. ”

I waved a convincing smile at him. ” We haven’t. ”

But why does he seem so curious to know if we had met or not? Is something wrong? Or… Is it yet to happen??

” Do you mind for another glass… of whiskey?” I asked him.

” Yes, please.”

I went to the glass bar to get pour another glass of whiskey for him. ” Are you done with your article?” He asked after a while.

” Yes.” I simply said, returning the whiskey back into the bar.

” I was expecting you to be asleep by now. ”

” Not feeling sleepy. ” I dropped the glass cup in the table in front of him. ” Maybe that’s because of the coffee I drank.”

He rose an eye brow at me. ” I was only trying to keep myself awake from sleeping off. ”

He chuckled.

” You know, you’re a lot different from him.”

” Who?” He asked.

” Draco, your son. You’re more friendly than he is. ”

He laughed hard for a while, ” I am? ”

” Mm-hmm. You are more friendly and comfortable to be with. You’re funny too. But he isn’t. ”

” He’s always like that since he lost his mother. He hardly associates with strangers and you hardly see him smile too. He’s just that way. “
