“ Dad, are you sure this is a good idea?” I asked dad as I packed my stuffs into my luggage.

“ Yes, Nat, this is the best idea I have ever made in years. I trust Luciano, he is the only one who can do this for me as well as take good care of you while I am away.” Looks at me. “ You don’t trust him?”

“ Not that I don’t trust him, I’m not good at living with people… other people.”

“ Don’t worry about Luciano, he isn’t just the other people, he’s totally different from them. Trust, me.”

Dad and Mr Luciano has been this close since I knew earth, they did things in common and most times hangs out with each other, especially at night for dinner and they haven’t stopped hanging out until last night.

So… I won’t blame dad for having so much trust in him.

I ain’t that good at living with people who aren’t related to me,I can only pay them a visit then, I’m off back home.

But this time, things seems to be a lot different as Dad will be leaving to Russia today on a business trip which will last for six months.

Dad with some maids helped take my stuffs to the car while I did some finish up on my face.

Yeah, it’s just me and my dad all the time. He’s been there for me since I was thirteen, the same year I lost my mother after a brief illness which had no meaning.

But Mrs carolina, my college guidian councellor would always say, “ That is fate.”

Then… Fuck fate.

Now, I am a grad student, I can actually take good care of myself but that isn’t for dad. That’s why he bought the idea of putting me under Mr Luciano’s care.

Well, it’s just a five days before I get employed into the Mass Company in town, I won’t have to be kept under watch for every 24 hours in every week.

“ Bye, Mr Bradeson, have a safe trip!” the maids all waved at us as we slowly drove out of the compound.

“ I’m gonna miss home, you know.” I said turning my back for the last time.

“ I know, and I’ll miss home too.” Dad said in a cold voice.

“ So, you said the trip will be for six months, right?” I asked.

“ Yes, for six months, then I’ll be back to take you home.” I smiled. “ How about your new job, how is it going?”

“ Well, the manager will be acquiting new employed staffs into the company by next week Monday.” I said.

“ That’s five days from now?”

“ Yeah.”

“ You do love the press, don’t you?” he asked again, taking off his gaze from the steering to look at me.

“ Yeah, who doesn’t love the press?” I bit on my nails. “ I want to be known around the State.”

“ But you are known already.”

“ Because you are my father, who doesn’t know Mr Bradeson?” He laughed for a while. “ I want to be famous on my own and not under you.”

“ Oh, I think I’m beginning to understand where you are heading to. It doesn’t matter who or what makes you famous, what matters is what you do that makes everyone know you.

Some people are known for a negative aspect, while some are for the good aspect. The question is, what aspect will you be known for.

The media isn’t like the video calls where both you and the caller see each other, it’s more like the whole world is watching you ever day.

What am I trying to say, whatever you are doing in the Mass company, try to be a good child okay?” I nodded my head. “ As soon as you shot your first video, don’t forget to hit me up.”

“ I won’t.”

We spent about two hours on our ride to Mr Luciano’s compound. His compound was as big as ours but the only thing that made his home more welcoming was the decorative flowers.

They had planted it both inside and the outside of the compound, while we had only few flowers in our compound and about one or two outside.

Mr Luciano stood outside his building, his lips beamed with a wide smile as soon as we entered the compound.

Dad went to offer him a handshake then a warm hug with lasted for a second or two. “ Nice to see you again, Mr Bradeson.” He said after the hug.

“ Nice to see you too, Luciano.” I leaned on the car while some maids carried my stuffs into the house. My eyes were fixed as dad chatted happily with the man. Then, he looked at my direction. “ that’s my daughter, Natalie Bradeson.”

“ Was it necessary attaching the Bradeson?” I thought to myself.

I waved at him and he waved back. “ Come on, Nat, don’t just stand there waving, come say hello to Mr Luciano.”

“ Oh, f*ck.” I muttered as I walked to where they stood. “ Hello, Mr Luciano.” I greeted.

“ Hello, Nat, It’s been a long time. I remember the last time I met you, you were in your final year at high school. I heard you’ve graduated, congratulation.”

“ Thank you. It’s really a pleasure to meet you again, Sir.”

He smiled, “ A pleasure to meet you too. Don’t worry about unpacking, the maids will help you do that. Have a bath and a good sleep, lunch will be ready before two.”

“ Okay.” I went to hug dad for the last time. “ Have a safe trip.”

“ Thank you.” He said, kissing my forehead. “ I’ll text you when I get to the airport, okay?”

I nodded. “ Okay. Bye.” I waved at him.

“ Bye.” I entered into the building, with the help of a maid who directed me to my new room.

From the window, I watched dad shake with Mr Luciano for the last time before hopping into his car. Mr Luciano had sent a guard to follow him so as to return the car back to the compound.

I notice dad look up, searching for my window. I shifted the curtains enough for him to get a clear view of me. I waved again, “ Bye dad.” I mouthed in a way he could understand.

“ Bye.” He mouthed back before exiting the compound.

I sighed shakingly, wiping off the tears that feel on my cheeks. I’m gonna miss dad so much, he was my only family. And now he’s finally left, six months is beginning to look like a year to me.

I finished taking my bath, now I was laying on the bed. I decided not to sleep until he gets to the airport. He said he’d text me when he gets there, so I’m actually waiting patiently until he texts me.

Few minutes later, my phone beeped. I was halfway to sleep but thankfully, I wasn’t totally gone. I checked on it, it was a message from dad.

“ I’m at the airport now, few minutes and we’re up in the air. How do you see your temporal home?”

“ I haven’t studied around yet, can’t really tell yet.”

“ Don’t worry, your’e gonna love it.”

“ I know. Don’t forget to call me when you get to Russia.”

“ I won’t.”

“ Gotta sleep. Bye.”

“ Bye.”

Now, I can sleep in peace…

I was listening to music when I fell asleep, the stress was a lot on me that I spent the rest of the day on the bed.

I jerked up by the sound of a knock on the door. The sound was loud enough, causing my heart to beat than normal.

“ Who’s that?” I asked.

“ The Master sent me to call you. Dinner is ready.” Said the voice from the other side of the door.

“ I’ll be there in a minute.”

“ Okay.” I could hear her footstep retreating down the hallway.

I rubbed my eyes gently, yawning tiredly. I stood up, heading to the door when I discovered I wasn’t with my phone. I went back to pick it from the bed, checking if dad had been calling.

Mr Luciano was sitting on one of the chairs, he played a smile on his face as soon as he saw me.

He was a man in his early 50’s, about six years older than my dad. Just guessing, tho. But the way they did things in common, one may think they were of the same age.

I heard he had a son from his first wife two years before she divorced him. It was his younger sister who took care of his son until he turned ten. She had to leave to her own new home where she was blessed with two kids.

Luckily his wife came back to him, that was when their child turned fourteen. Due to his love for her, he accepted her immediately.

Ten years later, his wife died, leaving him with his only son. I also heard that since then, his son stopped living with him. He’d only pay him a visit, the next day he’s off.

I stared at the dishes on the table, it had my favourite. “ I asked your father about your favourite dish, he said you love the stuffed sweet potatoes.”

I sat on the chair opposite his, I wore my apron, picking the fork beside the plate. “ Like I heard, you will be starting your new job by Monday, right?” he asked as we started to eat on our meal.

“ Yes.” I answered.

“ I hope you are prepared? The press isn’t that easy to work in with the protocols required in it.”

“ I can make it up with the protocols, those aren’t my problem. “

“ What is?”

“ I don’t think I will have a problem with the Media centre,and besides, it has always been my dream to become a jounalist. Now I have the opportunity, I don’t think I am ready to risk it for anything.”

“ That’s a great passion, Natalie.”

“ Thank you, Mr Luciano.”

“ Well, if you mind for anything, please don’t heasitate to let me know. We might not have everything you need, but I know we do have some.”

“ Don’t worry, Sir, I’ll definitely let you know if I need any.”

“ Please eat up.” We continued with our meal and we had some few discussions. We actually talked about how he met my dad and how their friendship began.

I really enjoyed every bit of conversation I had with him, and I was beginning to doubt the fact that I hated it here.
