Even though the public relished the news about Artemis’ private life, the rumor about Veronique and Justin was just as explosive.

That was why the public immediately shifted their focus from Artemis and the Shurmer family’s daughter to Veronique and Justin when they heard the Xuereb family would be holding a press conference to clarify the rumor about the illegitimate child.

It was an easy choice since Justin was the future son-in-law of the prestigious family that held the number one spot in politics.

His privacy was nonexistent the moment he was tied to the Fletcher family. Every part of his private life would be put under the spotlight and scrutinized by many.

Within the hall for the press conference, the entire room was filled with people from one end to the other.

All the big-name news media of Hallsbay and even some state media had arrived.

It was a no-brainer why the media focused on Justin so much with his identity and connection to the Fletcher family.

When Veronique stepped into the venue, the reporters swarmed and surrounded her.

“Ms. Veronique, is the grandson of the Revelle family your son?”

“Ms. Veronique, who exactly is the child’s father? Why did the Revelle family announce the child was

Ms. Yvonne’s?”

“Ms. Veronique, there’s a rumor spreading among the public that the child is Justin and your illegitimate child. May I know if that’s true?”

“Ms. Veronique, Justin is currently engaged to the daughter of the Fletcher family. How do you view the relationship between the three of you?”

“Ms. Veronique, who is the wife, and who is the lover between you and Ms. Fletcher?”

The questions got more and more harder to hear.

Veronique pressed forward until she reached the steps toward the stage. “Everyone, please calm down. I’ll answer all of your questions, so please don’t worry. Now, let’s chat.”

Her gaze swept across the entire hall.

Bitterness rose within her after seeing the densely-packed crowd beneath the stage.

I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to brave this press conference if it wasn’t for Zephyr.

“Firstly, I want to address that… Zephyr is my biological son. I got pregnant before marriage. I had no choice but to lie to the public that the child was my sister’s to protect the family’s name and my reputation. I’m deeply sorry for lying to all of you.”

She bowed deeply as a show of her sincerity for her apology.

“Who is the child’s father?” a reporter asked.

Veronique straightened her back and continued, “I fell into a one-sided love with a young man seven years ago. I spent all of my youth and passion pursuing him. This led me to save him when he got into trouble, resulting in some accidents, and I had a baby in the end.”

When the crowd heard the term “one-sided love,” their minds were blown.

Ms. Veronique did one-sidedly love a young man seven years ago, and that man was Justin. Someone had already revealed that information a few days ago. Does this mean she’s admitting that the child belongs to Justin?

Amid the crowd, Scarlett clasped onto her mother’s arm and said, “M-Mom, what’s happening? Didn’t you say Veronique would clear up the rumors about her illegitimate child? W-Why did she admit that the b*stard was Justin’s?”

Tamara frowned. Her gaze darkened as an ominous feeling rose within her.

She couldn’t put her finger on the problem, but her instincts were telling her the press conference would end in a bust.

“I’m talking to you, Mom. Why are you spacing out? The public didn’t know Justin had an illegitimate child before this, but the uproar you caused had led the whole world to know. H-How am I going to marry him like this?”

Tamara glared at Scarlett and admonished, “How is it that you lose your composure so easily? The press conference hasn’t ended yet, so why are you jumping to conclusions now?”

Scarlett was speechless at that.

“Ms. Veronique, are you saying Justin is the father of your child?”

Veronique lowered her gaze and kept silent for a bit before she started, “That’s right. Zephyr is Justin’s son. Justin was running from his foes when I saved him. A one-night stand happened, and I got pregnant.”

Her words were within their expectations but still shocking to hear.

Based on common sense, she shouldn’t have admitted her child belongs to Justin. After all, Justin already has an engagement with the daughter of the Fletcher family. Thus her child with Justin will only be labeled as illegitimate.

“Ms. Veronique, why did you admit that Justin is the child’s father? With his current engagement to the daughter of the Fletcher family, aren’t you afraid the public will label the child as illegitimate?”

Veronique raised her head and pinned her stare on the reporter who asked the question. “No. My son is not an illegitimate child,” she said through gritted teeth.

“Did you think that saying he’s not would not make him one? In my opinion, your son will have the illegitimate child label attached to him forever.”

Scarlett’s voice came from the crowd. She broke free from her mother’s grip and waded through the

crowd toward the steps. With her head raised, gaze glued on Veronique, she seethed, “Veronique, you’re shameless! You had Justin’s child behind his back and ruined our engagement. Aren’t you afraid of the entire world’s spurn and criticism?”

Scarlett’s appearance had attracted every eyeball in that hall.

Someone asked, “Hey, who’s the lady?”

“Yeah, this is the Revelle family’s press conference, so why did she come here?”
