Rhonda was lying in the car seat with her eyes closed.

As Beatrice looked at her daughter’s pale face and the blue and black bruises that encircled her neck, she slowly tightened her fist.

Bailey… That wretched b*tch. I swear I will end her one of these days. No, I want to chuck her to twenty men and have her experience what it is like to be ruined.

“Linda, call two female housekeepers over and help Rhonda back to her room. Call for the family doctor to check up on her as well.”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Ms. Shurmer, can we talk in private?”

“Okay.”

The two left the Luther residence and went to the artificial lake.

Halfway along the journey, Beatrice started the conversation. “Ms. Shurmer, now that we have the same enemy, I have a proposal to make. As long as you get rid of Bailey for me, I will never tell another soul the secret of your parentage. How’s that?”

Zoey smirked. “I’m totally fine with that. After all, Bailey is my biggest stumbling block and, ultimately, someone I want to see gone. I’ll find ways to get rid of her even if you didn’t say the word.”

“Good. I like that straightforward attitude of yours. Call me if you need me. I’ll do everything I can to help you.”

“Deal.”

At Shurmer Group, in the underground parking lot, Zeke had just gotten out of the elevator and was heading toward his car when a slender figure dashed out and blocked his way.

“Zeke! Why are you avoiding me? Is a grown man like you scared of my advances?”

Zeke could feel a headache coming as he put a palm over his forehead. After an exasperated sigh, he looked at the little girl in front of him. “Ms. Juliana, I have told you again and again that I have a fiancée, and we’re about to be engaged. Please, can’t you do me a favor and forget about me?”

“She’s not your fiancée.” Lifting her head to stare at him, she enunciated her next words clearly. “I did some digging. You have never acknowledged her as your fiancée and never thought of marrying her. You’re just using her as an excuse.”

A cold glint flashed in Zeke’s eyes. He could feel that his patience was running out.

“Juliana, I reiterate. We are not compatible. Leaving the matter of whether I have a fiancée aside, our statuses and family backgrounds are very different. Please don’t bother me anymore, or I’m going to get sick and tired of your face.”

With that, he promptly avoided her and started walking toward the cars.

Juliana didn’t chase after him. As she stared at his back, she shouted, “To avoid inconveniencing Master, I have broken all ties with her. Zeke, you do know how determined I am to win your heart. It’s okay if you don’t like me back. I like you, and that’s enough for me.”

Zeke halted in his tracks. After pausing for about three seconds, he started walking again.

His treatment toward her was still the same as ever. He would never give her any hope.

The spark in Juliana’s eyes dimmed as she watched him leave without looking back.

Despite that, she didn’t plan on giving up.

Over the years, she learned many things from her master, including determination and perseverance.

Whether he would accept her or not, she would have no regrets if she gave her best.

In a supermarket in the eastern suburbs, Shannon was placing the items from her cart on the counter.

After the cashier scanned all her items, Shannon took out a card from her small bag.

“I’m sorry, miss. We don’t accept cards. Can you pay by cash or PayPal?”

Cash? I didn’t bring cash. PayPal? I just returned to this country and haven’t registered for a PayPal account yet.

Just as she was in a pinch, a cold voice sounded above her.

“How much?”

It was these two words that made Shannon tremble uncontrollably.

Their meeting was both expected yet unanticipated.

She didn’t dare to face him.

She didn’t dare to look at the cold-blooded man who could stand by and watch as her arm was chopped off.

As she recalled the horrifying memories of the past, all Shannon wanted was to run.

In actuality, she wasn’t as tough as she had made herself out to be. She was especially weak against this man.

“Mister, that will be two hundred eighty-five.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t want them anymore. Please help me put them back. I apologize.”

Struck with fear, she stumbled her way out of the supermarket.

Nevertheless, Micah didn’t look at her. Taking out his phone, he paid the balance and carried the multiple bags of groceries out of the supermarket.

Outside, he stood on the steps and frowned at the scurrying figure as waves of anguish washed over his heart.

With the price of an arm, he had ended his unforgettable love with her.

He had no choice, given the circumstances.

All the evidence pointed back to her, incriminating her of leaking Tarragon’s most important secret. According to the organization’s ironclad rule, she would need to die.

To preserve her life, he could only let those people have her arm.

One arm.

“Mr. Micah, Ms. Shannon has already left.”

The bodyguard’s voice pulled his wandering thoughts back to the present.

He strode down the steps and left in the direction she disappeared to.

Meanwhile, Shannon jogged back to her rented apartment.

Slamming the door shut, she leaned against the doorframe and slid down, eventually slumping onto the floor.

Her right hand absentmindedly touched the place where her now missing left arm was, and flashbacks of the traumatic memory resurfaced.

“So, Micah, this is your woman. We might let her off if you plead on her behalf.”

“No. A mistake is a mistake. Now that all evidence points to her as the one at fault, she should receive the appropriate punishment. Since she is someone from the Lewitt family, I will spare her life. However, she still needs to pay for her crimes. That is why, she will leave an arm as punishment. Let this be a lesson to her for life.”

The scene changed.

A wide asphalt road appeared.

Shannon was walking on that road with a two-and-a-half-year-old Eugene.

Suddenly, a car rammed into them, and tragedy struck.

She tried to protect her baby, but the two of them went flying after being hit.

Alas, Eugene wasn’t as fortunate as she was. When he fell, the back of his head hit a sharp corner, and a bloody dent the size of a bowl appeared on his head. Eugene went into shock and died on the spot.

She thought that the man would not know of Eugene’s existence since she escaped Tarragon while Eugene was still in her womb.

Moreover, she had even spent two whole years living with his son without incident.

Yet, the conversation between the two people she heard in the car replayed vividly in her mind.

One person said, “Is the little b*stard dead?”

The other answered, “I think so. I saw him hit the back of his head on a sharp corner. And you know, blood was everywhere. How could someone survive that?”

“You can’t use words like ‘I think.’ You have to be sure that the boy is dead. Since Mr. Micah doesn’t allow any of his children to be left outside, he had ordered us to deal with the mother and son. We must follow Mr. Micah’s order to the letter and not let them live, especially that boy. He has to die.”

Shannon pressed her hand tightly against her chest, curled her whole body into a ball, and shivered helplessly in the corner.

She could brush off the pain of having lost a limb.

But what about her feelings of revenge for her son?

She couldn’t let it go.
