Excitement bubbled up in Pedro’s eyes. When he looked at Rhonda’s beautiful face, he couldn’t help but swallow the saliva building up in his mouth.

His response was exactly what a man who had gotten a lady who was way out of his league would be.

“C-Can I touch her?” he asked.

Ken bobbed his head and replied flatly, “I’ve already told you she is your wife. What do you think?”

With that, he turned around and left with the two bodyguards.

Pedro, momentarily stunned, stood at the doorway with Rhonda in his arms.

Only when the beauty in his arms struggled frantically did he snap out of his daze.

“Wow! I can’t believe that a person like me can have a chance to be with a young lady from a prominent family. How lucky I am!”

Then, he leaned forward and fiercely kissed Rhonda’s delicate face.

In the infirmary of the Gezmond residence, Lionel, leaning against the wall, gazed down at Sebastian, who was hugging his waist.

“Good boy, everything is going to be okay. The doctor is treating your mommy. She’ll be fine.”

“Can we still live together in the future?” Sebastian’s eyes were watery as he looked up at Lionel.

Lionel let out a gentle sigh as he leaned forward to touch Sebastian’s head. In a warm voice, he said, “You have your own biological father. I believe he will be a good husband and father. A family is only complete when you live with your biological parents under one roof. Understand?”

“But Mommy—”

“She’ll come around eventually.”

Just then, the emergency room door opened, and the family doctor walked out.

“Mr. Gezmond, Mrs. Gezmond is fine now. Even if the bleeding has stopped, it’s good to discover it early.”

Lionel nodded in response. “Okay, thank you so much.”

After saying that, he turned to Sebastian. “Go and get Grandma to make some soup. I’ve something to say to your mommy.”

“Oh, okay.”

Meanwhile, Wendy had already woken up in the ward and was staring blankly at the ceiling.

Lionel strode toward the bedside and stared at her for a long time. Then, he shook his head. “You are no longer the Wendy I know. Back then, you were resolute when fighting against your family for that man. I could feel your fearlessness and determination. But now, you’re willing to end your life for a man

you don’t love. How ridiculous!”

“You’re right. I don’t love you.” Wendy’s voice was hoarse. “Lionel, do you know whom I thought of when I closed my eyes?”

“Him.”

“Yeah, it’s him. When death came, images of him flooded my mind. You’re right. I love him but also hate him at the same time. My feelings for you are nothing but reliance and admiration.”

Although it was as Lionel expected, he still heaved a sigh of relief.

As long as she’s not obsessed with relying on me, she still can get her lost emotion back.

“So, have you thought it through?”

A look of hatred flashed across Wendy’s eyes when she heard that. “Yes. I want to go to him. If it’s true that he did wrong by me, I’ll make him pay for what he did. If it were the people around him who separated us, I’d make them pay as well.”

Lionel leaned over and caressed her head, smiling. “This is the aura and demeanor the first daughter of the Hoffman family should have. Just go ahead with what you want to do. I’ll always be your strongest supporter.”

Wendy looked at him. Soon, tears welled up in her eyes.

“I’m sorry. I’m an idiot to have believed in Rose’s words and made you everyone’s target. I… I actually

never wanted the outside world to know that you are Victoria’s sugar daddy.”

“It’s okay. I believe you.”

Wendy was stunned by Lionel’s words.

“Do you really believe me? Don’t you blame me for any of it?”

Lionel sat on the edge of the bed and said leisurely, “Wends, thanks for helping me at my most difficult time and rekindling my hope. You are not a despicable person by nature, and none of the daughters of the Hoffman family are bad either. That’s why I never believed you are the kind of girl with a wicked heart.”

Wendy immediately cried when she heard that.

“I’m sorry, Lionel. I’m really sorry! I shouldn’t have revealed that you’re married with children. Ms. Saunders must be heartbroken now.”

Lionel lowered his head slightly. “This is fate, and you’ve nothing to do with it. Now, stop overthinking things. Victoria and I will eventually figure things out between us.”

“But—”

“That’s enough. Just focus on your recovery for the moment. I’ll let you know when I have any news about Sebastian’s father.”

Wendy was at a loss for words.

At the Luther residence, Felicity, boiling with anger, glared at Gerald in the living room and yelled, “Gerald Luther, what do you mean by that? We’ve just received news that Artemis didn’t marry Rhonda, yet you’re already raring to take that little vixen from the Shurmer family as a daughter-in-law!”

Gerald narrowed his eyes at her and said in a deep voice, “Do you think this is my idea alone? Your father invited me to the Chivers residence to discuss this matter yesterday. Anyone with a clear mind can tell that Artemis wants to marry Bailey. Do you intend to let him marry his own brother’s woman?”

Felicity was stunned by his words.

She naturally would not allow Artemis to marry Bailey.

However, there was no way she would allow Waverly’s daughter to marry into the Luther family and become an eyesore to her.

“Is Zoey Shurmer the only person qualified to marry into the Luther family in this world? I refuse to believe that no other lady from a prominent family can be a better match for Artemis besides her.”

Gerald sighed helplessly and analyzed patiently, “Zoey is Artemis’ life savior. They have also been friends for many years and have a good foundation for a relationship. She’s the best candidate compared to other girls. This is also Glen’s idea as he doesn’t want to see Artemis continue being entangled with Bailey.”

Felicity’s anger vanished in no time.

Her rational side told her that pairing her son up with Zoey was the right choice, but she still couldn’t

get past that hurdle in her heart.

Gerald noticed her steely gaze begin to waver and seized the opportunity to say, “Think it through. Once Artemis insists he’ll only marry Bailey, the destruction of the Luther family’s reputation will only be a small matter. However, it’ll be too late for regrets if Artemis’ life is ruined.” Felicity went into deep thought when she heard that.

In a residential area on the east side of the city, Rhonda was lying quietly on the bed in a rental apartment. Her face was as pale as paper, and she looked as though she had lost her soul.

She stared blankly at the ceiling above her.

What came into her sight was no longer a luxurious crystal chandelier but a cracked white ceiling.

She had fallen from grace and thought everything happened because of Bailey.

Bailey, Bailey, Bailey!

With that thought in mind, she abruptly gripped the sheets beneath her tightly as intense hatred soon replaced the emptiness in her eyes.
