Inside the living room of Shelbert Condominium, Edmund was playing blocks with Susan when his phone on the table suddenly rang.

Upon picking it up, he realized it was his assistant on the line.

Thereafter, he gradually got off the couch and gave Susan’s hair a tousle as he spoke. “Carry on playing. I need to take a call.”

“Okay.”

Once he entered the study, he swiped to answer.

“What is it?”

“Mr. Chivers, I have just received news that General Fletcher’s battleship has turned back.”

The stunned Edmund narrowed his gaze slightly. “Turned back? Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?”

“I’m certain of it. Ms. Jefferson has also returned to Hallsbay. The moment I heard the news, I tracked her down and learned that she headed straight to Mr. Xuereb’s medical base the moment she left the port.”

Justin’s medical base?

Edmund’s brows furrowed in reflex. “Did you find out the reason for her visit?”

“Based on what I’ve learned, Maxton was bitten by a cobra. However, I’m not sure if that’s why Ms. Jefferson has decided to return.”

“All right, I got it.”

After ending the call, Edmund let out a gentle sigh as a wry smile emerged on his face.

It reminded her of the first time she met him.

of familiarity.

After dwelling upon the matter, she came to the conclusion that he resembled her.

As she ran her slender fingers across his pale face, a raspy voice rang out from her throat. “Are you really my son? I have gone through so many cycles of hope and despair that I’ve long been traumatized by it. It’s not that I don’t love you. It’s just… I no longer dare to hope.”

At that moment, Artemis entered the room and came up to her side. Placing his hand on her shoulder, he remarked softly, “Actually, if we really think about it, everything does make sense. Back then, Rhonda and you gave birth on the same day. You lost your eldest son, whereas she had a boy. Thereafter, she brought the child to the Luther family and claimed it as her own, demanding due recognition. At the end of the day, this was nothing but a scheme concocted by her vanity and greed for wealth.”

Pursing her lips, Bailey shook her head. “As of now, I don’t trust what anyone has to say. Only the maternity test can validate the truth.”

Artemis grunted softly in acknowledgment. “In that case, let’s wait for the results of the test.”

Artemis had barely finished when a thought struck him. After a brief hesitation, he probed, “Bay, if the test results show that Max is your son. It… would also mean that Rhonda isn’t your biological sister.”

His words sent a jolt through Bailey.

“Rhonda is definitely Clarence’s daughter—this I’m certain of. If she and I aren’t related by blood, it would also mean I’m not Clarence’s biological child.”

Artemis reached out to give her a hug. “Don’t overthink it. Going forward, the children and I will be by your side. As for your so-called parents and sister, they no longer matter anymore.”

“Hmph,” Bailey scoffed softly. “Don’t worry. If it turns out that I’m not their real daughter, it’s actually a cause for celebration, as I have never seen them as my own family before.”

Artemis didn’t know what to say.

After pushing him aside, Bailey got to her feet.

“I heard Zayron mention that it was Rhonda who planted the snake in Max’s room. Where is she? It’s time she pays for everything she has done.”

Artemis nodded. “My men have her restrained. Do you want to see her?”

“Let’s wait till the maternity test results are out before we decide what to do.”

“Sure.”

The results came out that night itself.

After reading it, Bailey locked herself in the lab for a few hours.

It wasn’t until five the next morning that she emerged with an exhausted expression.

Having not slept a wink and being flooded with turbulent thoughts, she felt like every ounce of energy

had left her. The moment she stepped out of the lab, her head spun before her legs began to buckle.

Artemis, who had been waiting outside the entire night, was initially delighted to see her emerge at last.

However, the sight of her swaying body and subsequent collapse caused his heart to skip a beat as he dashed forward to catch her.

“Bay, are you all right?”

Twitching her lips, Bailey—right before she lost consciousness—mumbled, “Artemis, my son… is alive.”

With that, her eyes rolled up before she finally fainted.
