Victoria was stunned.

She followed her gaze and looked down.

She was wearing her nightgown. However, after all that moving, a large part of her front was exposed.

The marks left by Lionel looked especially glaring on her fair skin.

What Victoria felt when her best friend saw her in this miserable state was a deep shame. Instinctively, she pulled up her nightgown to cover them and said in a hoarse voice, “Don’t look at me. I’m dirty.”

Smack!

In anger, Bailey slapped the back of Victoria’s head and scolded her, “Vicky, is that how you view our friendship for gosh, how many years already? That time, when someone forced himself on me and made me pregnant, who was the one who took me in and let me stay in their condominium for seven whole months? Why the heck didn’t you think I was dirty then?”

As Bailey talked about it, she began to choke on her words in sadness.

Victoria smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry. I was not in my right mind. Don’t take it to heart.”

Bailey dragged Victoria to the dressing room and said, “Get changed and leave here with me. Let’s ignore those scummy b*stards and run as far away as we can. We should steer clear of them from now on.”

Staring dumbly at Bailey, Victoria frowned and asked, “Are you leaving Hallsbay? And you’re going to take me with you?”

“Yes,” Bailey answered. “All Artemis that scumbag has in his head are ways to get me to sleep with him. I’m afraid I will fail to resist his temptation one day and fall into his trap. I should leave while I’m not that deeply involved with him.”

Victoria stayed silent for a while before saying, “Since you two love each other, why don’t you give it a try? Life is short, and finding someone you love is really hard. Are you sure you’re okay giving it up like this?”

Bailey stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Victoria with a self-deprecating smile. “Zayron and Susan’s biological father is Simon. This is the truth. No matter how powerful we are, we can’t change the fact. The only thing I can do is to provide a good living environment for the children. We can’t destroy their futures just because we can’t control ourselves.”

Victoria pursed her lips and smiled helplessly. “All right, fine. I respect your decision. But I can’t go. I can’t go until Lionel has promised to spare my father.”

Bailey’s face darkened. She narrowed her eyes and asked through gritted teeth, “At this point, rumors about you being a sugar baby and having fallen so far as to become someone’s mistress are literally everywhere! Now that your backer isn’t revealed yet, you can still save yourself. Do you know what would happen to you if Lionel was exposed?”

“I know.” Looking at Bailey, Victoria calmly continued, “Everyone will curse at me for being a homewrecker who ruined someone else’s marriage. Many would even think I have approached and seduced Lionel with ulterior motives, like trying to take Saunders Group back from him.”

“If you know, why aren’t you leaving with me?”

“Bay, what I’m experiencing now, Lionel had experienced it seven years ago. He had been cursed by the masses that he was so depraved that he slept with his stepmother and cuckolded his father. He was considered a piece of utter trash. You see? He had it worse than me.”

“You…” Bailey was furious. Just as she was about to knock Victoria out cold so she could forcefully drag her away, Victoria darted to the side and evaded her.

Victoria knew Bailey too well. She smiled and said, “Bay, let me end this accursed relationship. I have already paid my price. If I can’t witness the ending, all of my sacrifices will be in vain.”

Bailey opened her mouth to say something but decided against it once she saw Victoria’s stubborn yet determined face.

“Fine. Since you insist, I shouldn’t force this on you. Take good care of yourself. I need to go out of the country for some time. Something’s wrong at Vero’s place, and I need to deal with it. Keep yourself safe, always. If you ever decide to leave Hallsbay, use our exclusive contact number to call me. I’ll send for someone to fetch you immediately.”

“Okay.”

After leaving the seaside mansion, Bailey went to the Chivers residence.

She first visited Glen before chatting with Gwendolyn for some time.

When Bailey was about to leave, Gwendolyn held her hand and said smilingly, “I await the time you become our daughter-in-law.”

Ever since Yoel knew about Bailey’s many identities, the man wasn’t opposed to her marrying his son. Yoel was now of the same mind as Gwendolyn and Edmund. Now, they wanted Bailey to marry into their family.

Reaching out and hugging Gwendolyn, Bailey leaned in and said in her ear, “Since I was young, my parents had always been lukewarm toward me. However, from you, Mrs. Chivers, I felt motherly love. Actually, I have long thought of you as my own mother. So, take care of yourself. I will try my best to fulfill your wishes.”

Gwendolyn broke into a beaming smile. With tears in her eyes, she said, “Okay, okay. That’s wonderful. Wonderful.”

Under the moonlight, Edmund and Bailey were walking on the narrow road to the parking lot.

“Have you decided when you are leaving?” Edmund asked.

Smiling faintly, Bailey glanced at him from the side and said in a teasing tone, “Why do I keep sensing that you’re eagerly waiting for this moment to come?”

“You’re right.” Edmund was candid. “I am overjoyed that I can take you away from Hallsbay.”

Bailey shook her head. With a straight face, she said, “No, we can’t leave together. Artemis will stop us.”

Edmund was not surprised at all. He had known this would happen. “I mean we can finally leave Hallsbay and live the kind of life we used to have overseas. Oh, yeah, have you thought of a way to leave?”
