The wineglass in the man’s palm shattered.

Dark red wine dripped onto the floor with his blood. It caused beautiful but poignant flower patterns to bloom on the expensive carpet.

A roiling hatred was spreading in the bedroom.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

There was a call on his phone.

The man calmed his hatred and anger down before answering the call. “What is it?”

“It’ll be your father’s death anniversary in a few days, sir. Are you going to return to Hallsbay? Do you need me to clear out your schedule for the next few days?”

Lionel’s grip tightened around the phone as he replied in a deep voice, “Postpone them and prepare me a flight. I’ll return to Hallsbay in three days. Don’t tell anyone about it. I don’t want my whereabouts to be exposed, got it?”

“Yes.”

Once the call ended, he shut his eyes. Hallsbay… The city that pushed me into an endless pit of despair, as well as the place where I buried my family and love in a single night. If it’s possible, I never

want to set foot back there again. However, I was born there. It is also where my ancestors and my parents are buried. The only source of my love and hate is also there.

Just then, Wendy opened the door and entered his bedroom in her pajamas.

“What’s going on, Nell? I heard something fall to the ground.” When she aimed her gaze lower, she saw his still bleeding palm and gasped, “You’re hurt! I’ll go and call the family doctor.”

“There’s no need for that.” Lionel walked to the door and grabbed her arm. “The wineglass accidentally bumped into the floor-to-ceiling window and shattered. It caused a few cuts on my palm, but it’s nothing to worry about. No need to call the doctor.”

Pulling his hand up, Wendy checked if a vital vein was cut. When she saw that did not happen, she let out a sigh of relief. “All right, then. I’ll grab the medical kit and bandage your wound. It’ll be bad if you get an infection.”

As she spoke, she prepared to head to the living room.

However, he abruptly hugged her tightly and whispered next to her ear, “Have you ever felt aggrieved staying with me for all these years, Wends?”

With a smile, she answered, “Why would I? I’m grateful that you gave me and Yonathan a home. You’re the reason he had a normal childhood. If I have a complaint, it’ll be that you keep rejecting my advance to sleep with you.”

“Wends…”

“I was just joking. No need to take it seriously, and don’t give me a speech either. I think things are fine as is. As long as the three of us stay together, I’m happy with my life.”

Lionel chuckled. “Don’t worry, you’ll always be my wife. I won’t let anyone look down on you.”

On the other side, Bailey spent five hours in the infirmary inside the Chivers residence.

She went in at half-past eleven in the night and did not walk out until half-past four in the morning the next day.

Seeing how wobbly she was as she walked, Artemis stepped forward and held her.

On the other hand, Felicity ignored how terrifying the younger woman’s complexion looked and questioned, “How’s my grandson? Did you save him?”

At that point, Bailey was completely spent. She was lying in Artemis’ embrace sleepily as she informed weakly, “He’s not out of the woods yet. I suspected that he came in direct contact with the drug, which was why his condition was worse than Old Mr. Chivers’.”

“I don’t want to hear all that nonsense.” Felicity glared at her with gritted teeth. “I’m asking you how Max is doing. Don’t scare me with those exaggerations.”

Bailey opened her mouth before suddenly feeling dizzy and blacking out.

“Bailey!” Artemis exclaimed as pain flashed across his handsome face.

She was absolutely spent.

Before she could even take a breather after wrapping up a fifteen-hour long brain surgery, she had to spend five more hours in the emergency room. Even the sturdiest person could not hold out longer than that.

“All of you stay here and watch over Max. I’ll take her to a nearby room for her to rest.”

With that said, Artemis promptly lifted Bailey and carried her toward a ward.

Felicity had the intention of stopping him, but she could not keep up with his speed.

After shouting behind him twice, she glared at Simon and scolded, “Isn’t Bailey your woman? You should be the one carrying her, not your brother! Don’t you see what’s going on? Why do you keep letting your brother get involved with that woman?”

A bitter expression was formed on Simon’s face. If I don’t keep letting that happen, I’ll have to marry that woman. I’m an idiot if I stop Artemis from helping me.

Seeing how he was not saying anything, Felicity became even angrier and slapped the back of his head. “If your brother insists on marrying that woman, I’m going to force you to marry her. You two already have two children, so marriage isn’t out of the question. In any case, your brother must not marry her.”

What kind of bullsh*t logic is that? Why am I forced to marry her just because she’s not worthy of him? Please, both of them fit each other the most. Who else has a fate like hers? She’s the famous designer Snowflake and the famous doctor Anonymous. With how talented she is, she’ll be perfect as the matriarch of the Luther family.

After Bailey was carried into a ward by Artemis, she woke up just as he placed her down on the bed.

She forced herself to stay awake because she was still worried about Maxton. “Where is this? Why did you bring me here? Max is still in danger. I need to see him.”

A warm look flashed across his eyes. No wonder Maxton loves this woman, so much so that he wants to cling to her all day long. There’s something really special about her. Even though she appears cold, in reality, she’s a kind person. It makes people want to get closer to her.

“I’ve already mobilized the Luther family’s medical team. They’re among the best doctors in the world. While their skills aren’t as great as yours, they’ll likely be able to take over for a while with little issue. I know you’re strong-willed, but you need to take care of your body, too. Since you fainted, it means your body is really exhausted. You should stop moving and rest for now,” he advised.

Bailey stared at him, stunned. This man is so handsome. There are rough edges to his handsomeness, unlike Edmund’s pretty boy appearance. He has a bad boy vibe to him as if he was an untamed beast.

As though Artemis had read her mind, he pecked her pale lips when she was not paying attention.

This b*stard. He’s acting up again.

She coughed slightly and turned away to avoid staring at the joyous look in his eyes. “How are Zayron and Susan? This is a pretty precarious situation, so I want to make sure nothing bad will happen to them. Otherwise, I won’t even have a place to cry.”

“They’re doing fine. I’ve sent people to protect them.” He then reached out and propped his hands on both sides of her body. With a raised eyebrow, he uttered, “It seems like you have fallen for my gentle trap, Bailey.”
