Victoria staggered and asked in a shivering voice, “Does that mean the Les Cinq Series, which we’d released publicly, is a case of plagiarism?”

Artemis nodded and replied casually, “The culprit would definitely go all out if he or she wanted to frame you guys for plagiarism. Otherwise, it would be just a waste of time.”

Victoria took a deep breath and gritted her teeth. “Since I signed the papers, I’ll bear the consequences. I’ll protect Bay’s reputation at all costs.”

“And you’re willing to sacrifice your reputation?” Artemis raised his voice. “Pull yourself together, Victoria. Investigate this matter and find the culprit. You think Bailey can walk away freely even if you took the blame?”

Victoria shuddered upon hearing that. He’s right. The culprit had marked Bailey the target. If the person insists on pursuing the matter, Bailey, as the lead designer, will still be in hot soup.

Besides, Victoria knew Bailey would not let her take the blame. She’ll shoulder all the responsibility to protect me instead.

“You’re right. I have to pull myself together and investigate the matter. Since different designers are in charge of the drafts, I need to find out who the designer of the Les Cinq Series was and get her to show us her original sketch. We should be able to prove Luther Group’s innocence.”

“You don’t have to do that anymore,” Dwayne said while walking in. “I went to the design department, and the manager told me the designer who handled the Les Cinq Series is on a long break. She has not returned to the office for more than a week now. I believe she has gone into hiding. Someone must

have threatened her.”

Victoria widened her eyes in disbelief.

Artemis, on the other hand, remained calm. It was as if he had expected this. “By hook or by crook, we must find the designer.”

“All right.”

Artemis turned his head to look at Victoria and said, “We can’t keep this a secret from Bailey for long. She might have read the news and will call you soon. Don’t agitate her by saying you’ll take the blame on her behalf. Tell her you’ll talk to her about this after the surgery. Got it?”

Victoria bobbed her head in response. “Got it.”

“You two can leave now. I’ll contact Emmy Boutique and the CEO of LG Corporation. Let’s try to lie low and spend time investigating this matter.”

As Artemis had expected, it did not take Bailey long to learn about the plagiarism case.

She received the news while conducting a pre-op checkup for Glen. She immediately called Victoria and told her to stay calm. “Let’s talk about this after the surgery.”

Edmund approached Bailey when he saw her walk out of the treatment room. “How is he? When can we begin the procedure?”

Bailey studied the report with a frown and mumbled, “It’s strange how Old Mr. Chivers’ nervous system has deteriorated overnight. Is it due to the tumor’s rapid growth? No, it can’t be.”

Upon hearing that, Edmund could not help but ask, “Bay, what’s wrong? Did something happen to Grandpa? Can he continue with the surgery?”

Bailey shook her head to get rid of the messy thoughts in her mind. I must be overthinking.

“Everything’s fine. All the readings are normal. Do you have all the drugs I need?”

Edmund nodded. “I purchased all the drugs from overseas as per your instruction. But you should check it out just in case I made any mistakes.”

“Okay. I’ll go and take a look at the drugs now. If everything goes well, we’ll carry out the operation tomorrow. Since it’s a major procedure, it’ll take about twelve to fifteen hours.”

Edmund knitted his brows. “Twelve to fifteen hours? Are you sure you can take it?”

“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”

When Bailey was about to leave, Edmund grabbed her arm. After a short hesitation, he said, “I heard about the news, Bay. I’m sure Artemis can take care of it, so don’t worry.”

Bailey froze for a moment before tapping his shoulder gently and smiling at him. “Those clowns can’t do anything to me. There are so many scandals and rumors about me, but I’m still in one piece, so what are you worried about?”

“You’re unbelievable.” Edmund broke into a smile. “With all the experience accumulated over the years, you must have developed a heart of steel.”

“That is why you don’t have to worry about me. If this is how they want to play the game, bring it on,” Bailey said.

Meanwhile, at Luther Group, Dwayne entered the director of the HR department’s office.

Victoria got up and asked, “How is it? Did you manage to find his contact details?”

Dwayne gave her a slip of paper and frowned. “Are you sure you’re ready to do this? What if the call rekindles your feelings for him?”

“I’m only calling him because of work—nothing personal. I messed this up, so it’s my duty to do some damage control. At least I can explain to LG Corporation’s CEO to clear the misunderstanding. I don’t want them to terminate their partnership with Luther Group because of this.”

“All right.” Dwayne handed the piece of paper to Victoria and said in a serious voice, “Mr. Gezmond was still mad when Mr. Luther called him earlier. He was mad that this incident had tarnished LG Corporation’s reputation. I hope you’ll be able to appease him.”

Victoria grasped the paper and thanked him while she was in a daze.

After Dwayne had left the office, she walked to her desk, picked up the phone, and keyed in the numbers on the paper.

Victoria was aware of the consequence of making the call, but she knew she could not back out now.

She was the cause behind the incident that had tarnished LG Corporation’s international reputation. As someone responsible for the mistake, Victoria had to make the call.

The call got through, but a crisp and clear voice of a woman emerged from the other end of the phone. “Hello, who is on the line?”

Victoria felt a sharp pain in her chest. She clenched the phone tightly and answered in a husky voice, “Hello, is Mr. Gezmond there? I need to speak to him.”

The woman smiled and replied, “I’m sorry, my husband is in the shower. Could you call later? Or should I get him to call you back?”

Victoria ended the call abruptly.

The phone slid down her hand and fell onto the ground with a thud. It was as if someone hammered something heavy into her heart, causing her to experience another round of excruciating pain. The woman with a sweet voice—is she his wife? She must be since she called Lionel her husband!

Tears rolled down from the corner of her eyes. Her legs turned feeble, and she collapsed to the ground. What else can I do, Bay? I’m still trapped in this lonely limbo, no matter how hard I try to run away!
