Looking at him, Emily didn’t know what to say to this domineering man, but her heart was warmed and sweetened by his words and she involuntarily moved closer to him. A few minutes later, the snuggling couple fell asleep.

The next morning, when Emily woke up, she found that Jacob had gone to work, yet she was content as she had the still-warm bed to herself. Then, she heard her youngest child babbling outside the room.

Bowen, who was ten months old, came into the room and toddled forward to Emily’s bedside. He waved his little hands excitedly. “Mom… mmy… Mommy…”

This was the first time that little Bowen had called Emily “mommy.” She was so thrilled to hear this that she couldn’t help but bend down and wrap her arms tightly around her child. Her heart was beaming with love at this little extension of herself.

“My sweet baby, say ‘mommy’ again.”

“Mommy…”

little Bowen responded softly with his large, sparkling eyes and heart-melting voice. He looked quite like a miniature version of Jacob when he was so serious.

Lowering her head, Emily gave her baby boy a big loving kiss. Then, she thought of something, picked up her phone from the bedside table, and turned on the camera function.

“My cutie pie, say ‘mommy’ again.”

“Mommy…”

Bowen’s voice was soft and sweet, making Emily feel like she was sipping honey water, and her heart was overcome with joyous contentment. She smiled and pressed the button to share the video.

Although it wasn’t the first time that she had become a mother, Emily didn’t want Jacob to miss this great moment since he had missed Beryl’s first words.

Meanwhile, Jacob was at work in the conference room of the Bai Group.

He was attentively listening to the business report when his phone vibrated, interrupting his concentration. When his deep, dark eyes swept over the screen and saw the message from Emily’s handle on his WeChat, his face couldn’t help splitting into a wide grin.

The moment he clicked to open the video, he saw Bowen’s little round face followed by Emily’s happy voice in the background.

Although Jacob and Emily saw each other every day, his heart still skipped a beat when he heard her appealing voice.
“Mommy…”

Bowen’s youthful little voice was heard by all the people in the silent meeting room. It was at this moment that all the staff members present at the meeting realized that the usually cold and serious CEO looked very different today. He was smiling!

Yet, ignoring his handsome features which were glowing with anticipation on her phone, Emily noticed from the setting behind Jacob that he was not in his own office.

“Are you in the middle of something right now?” she asked modestly.

“Of course not,” Jacob said in a low voice, completely ignoring the staff around him. None of the staff members dared to make a sound now, lest they vex their paternally occupied boss.

‘Isn’t this meeting urgent?

How come the boss didn’t say he was busy when he answered the call from his wife? Is our boss a hen-pecked husband?’ the people in the room wondered in amazement.

Considering this, and knowing that this meeting would become the topic of office gossip, no one dared to think of the trouble they could all soon be in. Cautiously, they didn’t even dare to look at their CEO.

Emily was glad to hear that he was free, so she lightly pinched her baby’s chubby cheeks. Little Bowen giggled in response, while his body rocked back and forth to balance.

“Bowen, say ‘daddy, ‘” Emily urged her son.

Bowen seemed rather confused as he looked at his mother and then at his father on the phone. With his little mouth open, he made an effort to say the word. “Da… Doody…”

Jacob felt a little bit awkward and couldn’t help scowling. ‘I knew it! The little guy is not nice to me. And he even steals most of my wife’s attention away from me. I’ll sort him out later!’

These thoughts flashed through Jacob’s mind secretly, but he didn’t show it. Instead, he just gazed at his wife affectionately. “Honey, what are we having for lunch?”

“Sorry, dear, I won’t be in time for lunch this afternoon. I have to meet with the person in charge of Ray’s studio on behalf of our company today. There are still some details left to be ironed out for the contract.”

Emily glanced at the business schedule Joyce had made for her, and then sighed with resignation. The celebrity news hadn’t harmed Ray’s career, but had made him even more famous, thanks to Emily.

Yesterday when Ray Lin had called Emily, he had wanted to ask her out to thank her in person. But Jacob had flatly rejected him and hung up the phone. So, Ray thought that he might as well use the pretext of work to ask her out.

Emily knew this. But she didn’t want her personal affairs to affect her work. Ever the professional, she wanted to keep her private and public lives separate.

That wretched brat just won’t leave Emily alone! I really need to do something about him.’ Jacob mentally sulked and his eyes narrowed reflexively.

Jacob’s voice sounded cold and stubborn over the phone. Emily was about to decline his offer when she suddenly changed her mind. ‘Jacob owns SL Jewelry. It makes sense for him to come, too.’

“All right, I’ll wait for you at the company.”

Then, Emily hung up the phone. Tension crackled in the silent room and the staff members just about jumped to attention as Jacob’s dark eyes lifted from the phone to survey them.

Setting down the phone, Jacob searched through the assembly of his workers and his eyes eventually settled on a man.

“Mr. Wang, I heard that the actor from Sky Entertainment doesn’t know how to behave himself. You might as well remind him of propriety.”

The man named Wang trembled slightly with fear, but he managed to reply to Jacob reverently, “Yes, yes, I will… Mr. Gu.”

The other staff members were also very nervous and didn’t dare to utter a sound. But they instantly guessed that Ray Lin might have offended their CEO in some way.

Jacob took a brief expressionless look around the room, stood up and wordlessly left.

“The meeting is over. If you have anything else to report, please send it to me in file format.” Sam took charge.

He knew well enough that his boss was now too angry to continue the meeting. In Jacob’s mind, nothing was more important than his wife.
