There was a sense of weariness in David’s voice when he spoke these words. It was as if the light in his eyes was flickering away, fading into the eventual darkness.

After all, Darren and David were brothers sharing the same blood. The last thing anyone would want to see was the futility of two brothers turning against each other in a petty feud.

“If he promises to keep himself within the limits of M Country and behave himself, I’ll spare his life this time. But if he insists on being a constant thorn on my side, I will not hesitate to teach him the true meaning of pain!”

Jacob had made his point in the most confrontational way possible. His judgment would have been different had it been anyone else, but since Darren had been brave enough to involve Beryl, regardless of his intentions, the punishment Jacob was going to unleash on him would be torrential.

“Anyone who dares to lay a finger on my family is a dead man!” Jacob managed to get that point across loud and clear. David’s face softened with relief to hear Jacob say that. He was grateful to his friend for making a big concession for his sake.

“I appreciate it, man!”

David expressed his sincerest gratitude, even though he seemed to fall short on words as his voice turned low and deep and his eyes turned red. There was a high sense of friendship and camaraderie between these two. There had been times when they would disagree with each other, but they always came out of it with some mutual respect, a simple handshake, and a wink.

Jacob, having acknowledged David’s words, gave him a simple nod in reciprocation. “Don’t mention it.”

Although Jacob and David were best friends and would not hesitate to put their lives on the line for each other, Jacob understood that it was not his place to meddle in the affairs between the brothers. The only thing Jacob could do was to give David a hand when he needed help, but not punish David’s brother for him.

Meanwhile, Dina, who couldn’t get a hold of Darren, became increasingly desperate to get in touch with him as if he was her only hope. Failing to reach Darren on the phone after a hundred or so failed attempts, Dina came to the conclusion that she had no one else to turn to!

Dina clenched her phone tightly with blanched knuckles and her nails dug deep into the palms of her hands. Her pale face, which was usually fair and pretty, turned vicious. In a single venomous outburst, she threw her phone to the ground and let out a painful and sorrowful moan.

“Ahh!”

‘It’s over. Everything is over, ‘ thought Dina.

Jacob was one of the most powerful and influential people in Jingshi City, and David had just recently reclaimed the Xu Group. And as if fate had played a grotesque prank on her, Dina was the one who had offended both of their wives.

“This can’t be happening to me…” Dina scoffed bitterly at herself, disgusted by her own destiny.

‘No, no way!

I’m a goddess in the eyes of the people. I have snared hundreds of men in the brazen web of my comeliness. All my troubles and difficulties are only temporary and will soon come to pass.

I’ll get my fame and popularity back. And when that day comes, I’ll make Emily pay for what she has done to me. I’ll trample that bitch underneath my shoes!’

Soon after, Dina looked at the mirror and fixed her makeup. Then she quickly picked what was left of her broken phone and dialed a number.

Meanwhile at SL Jewelry.

Emily was going over all the recent projects and contracts the company had with Dina’s studio, specifically the jewelry graphics designed by herself during their cooperation.

“Director Emily! Director Emily!”

Joyce stormed into the office with an anxious expression. Gesturing at Emily with a phone in her hand, it looked like she was trying to inform Emily of an emergency. Emily, however, was rather calm as she slowly raised her head and spoke softly to Joyce.

“What is it now? Be careful. Mind your step.”

Joyce’s hasty nature failed to bring a change in Emily’s calm and composed disposition.

Suddenly, Joyce realized that she was just overreacting when she saw how calm Emily was. As a result, in just the blink of an eye, she brought her energy level to a minimum and handed the phone over to Emily.

“On this week’s hottest celebrity gossip! The rumors of a romantic relationship between the people’s goddess and the hottest actor have been verified. They’ve been caught on camera kissing and hugging each other!”

The video on the phone showed multiple photos of Dina and Ray in an intimate setting. The angles of the photos were tricky to say the least. It looked as though Dina was asking for a kiss from Ray, and Ray was about to kiss her back.
Emily furrowed her brows but soon brought them back to their natural state as she turned off the screen of the phone. Her eyes were bright and clear; her voice soft and calm. “Please don’t come to me with this sort of garbage again.”

After pausing for a few seconds, she added, “Our company still has cooperative projects with Ray. Get in touch with Ray’s studio and check their attitude. Tell them that if they want to clarify this news, we can give them a hand.”

Although Emily hadn’t directly spoken with Ray, she instinctively believed that the news was fake. It wasn’t difficult for Emily to figure out that this was just another one of Dina’s cheap ploys to attract public attention since Jacob had banned her from the industry.

‘Isn’t Dina close to Darren? Why hasn’t she turned to him for help?’ Emily wondered.

Emily felt confused since she didn’t know the full details of what was going on at the Xu Group.

The reason why she decided to help Ray was because she just wanted to return the favor to him. Now that Dina’s career as an actress was almost over, there was no need to drag Ray’s name through the mud. After all, anyone involved with Dina was going to find it hard to survive in the entertainment circle.

“Yes, Director Emily.”

Joyce was surprised by Emily’s blithe indifference about this matter. If she had been in Emily’s place, she would have been running around the place in full panic.

Following the events of that day, the official response from both Ray Lin’s studio and SL Jewelry was exactly the same. The two companies unequivocally denied the authenticity of the news and made a public announcement that they would never work with Dina again.

Some netizens uploaded the original, uncut video of the supposed kissing and the video confirmed that it was, in fact, Dina who had thrown herself at Ray and that Ray had done nothing but turn her down as politely as he possibly could.

By a miraculous stroke of luck, the scandalous video, in turn, became a good thing for Ray. The public opinion was supportive of Ray and they even gave him a brand new nickname—Mr. Hard-To-Get.

In the end, Dina’s whole debacle turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Ray. And of course, Emily had a big hand in this result.

But when Jacob read through the comments on the phone, the more he read, the more upset he felt. ‘Why does this woman care so much about other people’s business? I really need to teach her a lesson and remind her who the most important man in her life is!’

As soon as Jacob formed the thought in his mind, he decided to act on it. It took him less than half an hour to drive all the way to Emily’s company to see her. The moment he caught sight of her in her office, he carried her on his shoulder, put her in the car and brought her home to their bed where he could teach her a good lesson.

When it was all over, Emily lay panting on Jacob’s chest with her rosy cheeks and curled-up lips.

“Jacob…”

“I’d prefer it if you called me ‘honey.'” The man interrupted the woman and then reached out to gently pinch her chin. His request caused her to blush a deeper shade of red as she tried to hide herself under her raven dark hair.

“Honey, I’ve already returned the favor to Ray Lin, and Dina won’t be a problem anymore. Could you please not come to my office and carry me back home like this in front of everyone? My colleagues were gawking at me today. I have a reputation to maintain…”

Emily didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at Jacob’s behavior. Although she didn’t care much about other people’s opinions, she still felt a little embarrassed about being carried away from the office like that. And if people saw the hickeys on her neck and various other parts of her body, they would gossip about their passion in bed.

“What’s a ‘reputation’? Is it something that makes you feel comfortable?” Jacob taunted meaningfully with a mischievous smirk. Holding the woman tight in his arms and gazing at her intently, his dark eyes deepened with affection.

“I don’t care whether you have something important to say to my wife or not. Stop calling her and stay away from her!” Jacob hung up the phone before Emily’s mind could even process what had happened.

“If you ever answer that bastard’s call again, I’ll make sure that you are unable to walk for three days!” Jacob warned domineeringly.
