“Today, Emily has officially become a member of the Ke Family. Yvonne Ke is her new name. Please, remember her new name and don’t make a mistake in using it, ever.”

“Don’t forget, she is my daughter, Yvonne!”

Hunk said loud and coldly while clenching his fists. His sharp eyes emitted a powerfully authoritarian aura. He was an old man who had accumulated a tremendous wealth of experience. His public persona was different from Jacob’s and Darren’s. Danger sparkled in Hunk’s eyes, frightening everyone present.

Although Hunk said it to everyone, Jacob knew it was a warning aimed at him.

The warning had nothing to do with any of the others.

It seemed it was Hunk who had asked Louis to warn him several days ago. Everyone knew Hunk was kind and fair-tempered, because he believed that amiability attracted riches. No one had ever seen him be so angry. The assembled audience knew what he meant.

Everyone present began whispering.

“It seems that Hunk is here on Emily’s behalf.”

“Yes, Emily was driven out by Jacob. Hunk must have been enraged by it.”

“I believe no one dares to speak any further ill of Emily. The Ke Family isn’t lower than the Gu Family. Emily’s hard times are finally over.”

“Yvonne, come here.”

Hunk didn’t know whether Jacob would take his words to heart or how he would react. But it didn’t matter. What mattered was that Jacob understood that the Ke Family wouldn’t allow him to hurt Yvonne again.

He would protect his daughter, no matter what it would cost him.

Hunk kindly looked at Emily, whose eyes were watery, and he waved at her in encouragement.

“Dad…” said Emily in a weak voice.

She looked at Hunk, noting his wrinkled face and thinning white hair. He was trying his best to protect her, even if it meant opposing the Gu Family.

Emily knew that even if she had offended all the people in the arctic circle, Hunk and Louis wouldn’t blame her for it. They would only choose to side with her.

Thinking of that, Emily felt her heart aching and burst into tears again with her hands covering her mouth. Her body was trembling slightly with a nervous tension.

“It’s all right. Go ahead,”

Louis said while wiping her tears and patting her shoulder gently.

“Emily, just go ahead. I will call you Yvonne next time!”

Rita also smiled at her and gently prodded her forward.

Emily stood and walked up to Hunk. Standing beside him on the stage, she was at a loss for words and in the end said nothing.

Tears cascaded from her eyes.

After a while, she opened her mouth and said, “Hello, everyone, my name is Yvonne Ke.”

Her simple words were a way in which she was able to assert her new identity. From now on, Emily was a member of the Ke Family. There were few people who would dare to bully her now.

In fact, the Ke Family had never given up on Emily. But now, it was officially announced to all.

“Good!”

Louis was the first one to break the silence by clapping his slender hands loudly. Then, there was a hearty round of applause.

Hunk had finally reached his goal and said, “Thank you, everyone. Yvonne is still a bit shy. And I don’t want to waste your time. It is time for the auction to start.”

Emily’s tears had finally melted Hunk’s heart. After stepping down from the stage, he stood hand in hand with Emily as he smiled at her benignly. Pinching her nose, he coaxed her with his soft voice, teasing her. “Don’t cry. Your face has almost become as dirty as that of a little alley cat.”

“Dad.”

Emily had been alone for a very long time. Hunk’s fatherly voice left her feeling warm and protected. She threw herself into his arms at once, crying. Her tears soaked her dad’s evening suit right through.

“It’s all right. Dad is always here for you,”
Hunk soothed her patiently while gently patting her on her back. “Don’t cry. There’s a necklace that will be sold at the auction tonight. Let your brother buy it for you, okay?”

“Okay,”

Emily replied in a soft voice, and she kept leaning on her dad.

After talking with her dad for a while, Emily raised her head and noticed that her tears earlier had dirtied her Dad’s shirt. But she didn’t feel the least bit guilty about it. Instead, they smiled at each other happily.

They were family.

They believed in each other and would never blame each other.

They could show their weakness to each other, ignoring other people’s expectations.

“All right. Go and find your brother. I need to go change clothes.”

Hunk patted Emily on her shoulder and asked her to go to Louis’s side. Louis had been looking at them the whole time.

“Okay.”

Emily nodded. Not wanting to further smudge her makeup, she cleaned her face with a paper towel, and then walked to her seat.

When she had just sat down, the lot number was shown on the stage.

“The necklace’s name is Equinox Flower’s Pistil. It is the last project designed by the Italian designer, Solosity. There is only one Equinox Flower’s Pistil in the world. It means the deepest love.

Three million will be its opening price.”

A showgirl put the necklace on the showcase. Under the colorful back lights, the necklace was glittering with a strange kind of life.

The necklace was silver with blue flower designs. It twinkled with a sharp gleam.
In the center was a large sapphire gemstone in the shape of a water droplet. There seemed to be the seal of a mermaid in the gemstone. But the gemstone still looked limpid with its white edge. Despite that, its beauty was magnificent!

Everyone present was stunned and several gasps sounded.

“It is the necklace Dad mentioned. Do you like it?”

asked Louis. The moment he finished speaking, Emily nodded her head and stared at Louis with big expectant eyes.

Louis couldn’t help but laugh as he responded, “Dad nailed it. He knew you would like it.”

He was deeply relieved to confirm that Emily loved the necklace. He had worried that nothing would catch her eye at the auction.

The aim was to make Emily relaxed and happy. Since Emily liked the necklace, Louis would buy it for her. Hence, he raised his bidding plate and broke the silence.

“Four million.”

Louis was willing to add one million to that if required.

A few prospective buyers who wanted to buy the necklace looked at one another miserably, and then they all put down their hands.

Obviously, the Ke Family had decided to buy the necklace to please Emily. They didn’t want to compete against the Ke Family. They didn’t mind doing the Ke Family a favor that would cost them nothing.

However, suddenly, a man said, “Five million.”

“Jacob, you are so nice to me,”

Michelle said, staring at Jacob’s face as a wicked grin formed on her face.
