Dina played the video which showed the time when Emily had asked for Ray’s help to persuade Dina, after Emily and Ray had signed the contract.

On the screen, it seemed as if Emily was busy seducing Ray due to the angle of the hidden camera. The real event had been distorted into something much more insidious.

“Oh, my God! Are you kidding me? This is just their interpretation! And it is out of context!” Joyce erupted angrily.

She was so angry that she instantly turned off the laptop, not planning to hear what Dina wanted to say next. This really amused Emily.

Emily looked at Joyce with a smile and bantered, “Joyce, why does it seem like Dina is not defaming me but you?”

Emily believed that a lie could never become the truth and vice versa. She was not easily rattled.

“Ray, why didn’t you hang up the phone!” she screamed into the phone. Not waiting for Ray’s response, Emily immediately ended the call.

A second later, Jacob broke into Emily’s office. His face was like a thundercloud and she could see his ferocious anger, which was ready to shoot out bolts of vengeance.

Emily raised her head guiltily and tried her best to calm Jacob with a beautiful smile. She asked in a gentle voice, hoping to please Jacob, “Honey, have you come to pick me up for lunch?”

Batting her large, watery eyes at Jacob, she tried to avoid looking at his angry eyes under deeply furrowed brows. Swallowing heavily, Emily tried not to appear anxious, as this would only make her seem guilty of something.

Fortunately, Emily’s soft voice was just like the gentle spring rain and it quickly soothed and doused all of Jacob’s fiery anger. Drained of his initial rage, he felt his heart soften at her winsome smile and he sighed heavily.

But thinking that Emily had spoken to Ray for such a long time, Jacob could not help feeling a sense of foreboding and concern. Why could the young star not leave his wife alone?!

“You are my lunch! I want to eat you!” Jacob said in a throaty tone.

Shutting the door, Jacob walked up to Emily with long strides and drew her into his arms for a tight and passionate embrace. He needed to hold her, to have her within his protection, and away from all others.

Emily had planned to struggle, but feeling the warm, familiar smell, she quickly relinquished this notion and submitted to his presence. She held Jacob around his waist with her long arms and completely surrendered her slim body into his embrace. It was an intimate act, which, had they been home, would have led to the bedroom for sure.

“Do not be angry, please. Ray called me for nothing, except to remind me that Dina might seek to do harm to me.”

Emily’s voice was low and gentle in Jacob’s ears, and her moist breath on his skin was both exciting and intoxicating.

“Okay. There is no need for you to concern yourself with that. I will protect you,” he answered in a gentle voice.

Unable to fully restrain his impulses, Jacob kissed Emily’s hair, even going so far as to taste the tips of a stray lock of hair over his lips. It was not enough to sate his passion, but it would have to do for now.

Fortunately, Jacob had already received the news about Dina earlier, but he had chosen not to tell Emily. He hadn’t wanted to worry her unnecessarily as he would deal with the matter. But after weighing the pros and cons, Jacob had decided to call Emily, but her line had been busy with the call from Ray.

After thinking about it for a while, the answer was almost evident. But like a memory slip, it lingered on the tip of Jacob’s tongue, close, but just out of reach. There! It seemed that there was nothing connecting these two things, but one was coming for Rita and the other for Emily. Then, it followed that both these things had to have some connection with each other.

It was just speculation at this point though, and Jacob still needed to find proof. But no matter whether the person behind Dina was Darren or someone else, Jacob would remain vigilant and discover their identity. But most importantly, Jacob would always protect Emily.

“Jacob, when can we finally live a peaceful life?” Emily had slightly raised her head and was looking expectantly at Jacob. She knew that if anyone could make her wish come true, it would be Jacob.

Ever since they had come together, they had faced too many troubles and difficulties. Every day, they had to live in fear. Emily did not fear for herself, but she did worry about her two children and the man in front of her, who would likely face any challenges and dangers for her. She knew that there was nothing that Jacob would not do for her.

Emily did not want them to face such danger because of her, or because of money. Humans were all selfish and greedy. At this moment, all that Emily wanted was for the people she loved to be safe and healthy. Their happiness meant everything to her.

“Soon, my dear. We will live a peaceful life, very soon!”

Jacob looked affectionately at Emily and his eyes glowed with a gentle determination. Emily stood on her toes and, raising her head, left a light kiss on Jacob’s thin lips.

“A kiss as a seal and that is a deal!”
