Sally strode in and scanned the restaurant, keeping an eye out for their client, Mr. Lee.

“Sally Brown! Joyce!”

A familiar cold voice seething with anger came from behind her. She felt her entire body freeze up.

A pair of large hands forcibly yanked her to the side by her wrist.

Howard stared at the woman in front of him. His sullen eyes filled with more fury, and he tightened his grip on her wrist. “So, it’s really you. After disappearing for six years, you finally decided to show your face, huh?”

Sally lifted her eyes to gaze into Howard’s face. It was as if someone had tossed a rock into the calm pool that was her heart, disturbing the peace with violent ripples.

On the day that she’d returned, she knew that she had to be ready to meet him again.

After all, she’d come back to get revenge. If Grace was his wife, they were destined to cross paths.

However, she hadn’t expected this moment to come so soon.

She also hadn’t expected her heart to react like this, beating faster and faster as she spent more time in front of him.

“Mr. Logan, long time no see,” she greeted, keeping her voice strong and level.

“Long time no see?“” He gritted his teeth and kept his glare on her. She felt his fingers wrap around her even harder.

“Six years. You left without a word, and I got nothing but a letter calling off the wedding. It made me the laughingstock of Bomsville. Don’t you owe me an explanation?”

“Yes… you’re right, I’m sorry.” Sally averted her eyes.

Still restraining her by her wrist, he tugged her farther into the restaurant and toward one of the private dining rooms.

“Howard, where are you going?”

She struggled violently, but it was all in vain. She couldn’t seem to break free from the shackles that were his hands.

Sally lost her balance and stumbled forward a few steps. Her stomach crashed into the corner of the table, causing her brow to furrow with pain.

A loud bang! alerted her as Howard slammed the door closed. He then locked it quickly.

That last action had her turn to face him. As she continued to endure the throbbing in her abdomen, she watched the angry figure before her.

Howard tugged hard on his tie, loosening it so that it hung around his neck. He’d already removed his suit jacket and cast it upon a chair. The buttons of his sleeves had been unbuttoned, allowing him to push them up to his elbows.

He took a step in her direction.

Keeping an eye on his movements, Sally instinctively began to back away with a nervous expression. “Howard, you–what do you want?”

He didn’t respond, simply staring into her eyes with a sharp glare that was devoid of warmth.

In the past, Howard’s attitude toward her was always frigid. He never gave her so much as a second glance, and never the terrifying look he had now.

“Howard, I really am sorry for what happened six years ago. You have my sincerest apologies,” she said, still retreating from him.

Howard took another step, forcing Sally into a corner of the room. When his stare fell upon her innocent expression, an uncontrollable surge of anger rushed through him. He leaned forward and pushed back on her forehead to make her meet his eyes.

“After withdrawing from our marriage and disappearing without a warning, you think a little apology is enough to sweep it all under a rug?”

Sally just looked up at him, a dull ache thrumming through

her heart.

She tried to turn away, but Howard refused to let her.

“Aren’t you supposed to be an eloquent speaker? What, have you suddenly forgotten how to talk?”

He channeled more force into his hold.

Her eyebrows knit together in pain. In the quiet of the room, she swore that she heard the sound of her bones creaking.

Sally quickly whipped out her phone, thinking it was a potential client. However, when she saw it was Micah, she tried to end the call and tuck it away. She could call again later. In her rush, though, her fingers accidentally swiped against the screen and answered.

“Hey, Mommy, things aren’t good. Something big just happened-”

She hung up in a hurry. She didn’t know why she did it. Something inside her just didn’t want Howard to know about her children.

Or maybe she was afraid to let him know.

Unfortunately, in the quiet room, Micah’s voice rang clearly through the air.

Howard’s eyebrows scrunched together as he frowned. His eyes flickered with a cold light. “You even have a child?”

She could do nothing except lower her eyes and remain silent.

Clutching the card in his hand, he narrowed his eyes. It was as if a shadow had fallen across his vision, masking what he was thinking.

Meanwhile, after Sally had run out, she hurriedly attempted to calm her racing pulse. After a deep breath, she pasted on a calm expression as if nothing had happened. Only her red eyes threatened to give her away.

She pulled out her phone and called Micah back.

“Micah, what’s wrong? Is Kara not feeling well again?”

Micah studied the girl in front of him before mumbling, “It’s okay, Mommy. Kara’s fine.”

“Huh?” Sally frowned.

Coming back to his senses, he quickly explained, “It’s nothing. Kara just lied to me about her tummy hurting, so I got worried and called you.”

“She must be pulling her pranks on you again, right?” Sally laughed helplessly.

Micah looked back at Rina, who was sitting quietly on the sofa. He nodded, “Mhm!”

“Then everything’s okay. Mommy still has work to do, so I’ll hang up then.”

Once he hung up, Micah regarded “Kara” with a complicated expression. “Kara, are you sure you’re not pulling a prank on me?”

“Rina. My name is Rina,” Rina admitted timidly.

Micah nodded solemnly. After all, he knew that Kara would never act this shy or sit this quietly. Even if she was putting on an act, she wouldn’t be able to maintain it for long.

He’d known that something wasn’t right with this Kara. Under his questioning, he’d gotten Rina to reveal her identity. This scared him into calling his mommy.

However, his call ended just as it got picked up, giving him no chance to explain.

When Sally had called back, though, he’d changed his mind. He wanted to find out more about what was happening before telling his mom.

If Mommy knew that Kara was missing, she’d be very, very worried.

Unfortunately, Rina could only shake her head and remain quiet.

Micah let out a sigh, feeling like an exhausted adult. All he could do was pat her head with a sad expression.
