“Tsk tsk… Aren’t you Mian’s father? How did you not know anything about this?”

“I honestly had no idea, Mr. Su. There must have been a mistake.”

“Mistake? No, no, my sources are never wrong, you can go to the Civil Administration Bureau and find out yourself.”

“When did she get married? To whom?” Huo Zhenghai felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest.

Huo Siqian never mentioned such a thing to him. Unless… Was it news to Huo Siqian as well?

“You know the guy too. He’s GK’s new president, Qin Chu. They’ve been married for about four months.”

Su Yu was rather saddened by the reminder that Huo Mian was married before they even met…

He felt he showed up too late…

“Qin Chu? GK?” Huo Zhenghai became even more restless as the news unfolded in front of him.

Huo Zhenghai continued his chit chat a little longer with Su Yu, but his heart was elsewhere. He excused himself soon after and headed directly to the Huo Corporation…

At the Huo Corporation Headquarters, Huo Siqian was busy signing documents when he saw Huo Zhenghai walking in angrily.

“Dad, why are you here?”

“Huo Mian is married! Why didn’t you tell me?”

“What? Married? Ha, Dad, you’re so funny. Mian still looks like a little girl, how could she possibly be married?” Huo Siqian chuckled.

“Really? Who did she marry?” Huo Siqian asked with surprise as if he really didn’t know.

“You don’t know anything about this?”

“Dad, how could I possibly know about this? You know how Mian is; she never liked me much. She barely talks to me, so of course she wouldn’t mention something this big to me.”

“Hm. I guess that damned girl kept her mouth shut.” Huo Zhenghai simply believed Huo Siqian as he lied to his face.

“Who’s her husband? How come I didn’t hear anything?”

“I will tell you later.” Huo Zhenghai held back the last piece of information that was related to Qin Chu.

He was afraid Huo Siqian might use Huo Mian to his own advantage if he ever found out that she had such a powerful man behind her.

Huo Zhenghai wanted Huo Mian on his and Shen Jiani’s side…

As Huo Siqian watched Huo Zhenghai leave the room, the warmth in his eyes left as well…

“Still playing games with me, eh? You old fox…”

– South Side Recuperation Center –

Huo Mian took the teenager from room seven on a walk in the backyard. The patient’s conditions had stabilized significantly.

However, as the number of patients increased in the Orthopedics Department, it was inevitable that he would be transferred back to the Psychiatry Department. After all, crossing departments was never a good long-term solution.

“Sis, you’re so good at League! Can you teach me some positioning tactics when you have time?”

“Sure! But you’re transferring rooms tomorrow. Don’t worry, I will visit you upstairs. You, on the other hand, should cooperate with the doctors so you can go back to school as soon as you can.”

“I don’t want to go back to school, Sis, I want to live here forever.” Sadness filled the teenager’s eyes.

“Don’t be silly, kiddo. This is a recuperation center, it’s no home.”

“But this place is better than home. I never get to see my parents, there’s only a nanny at home. It’s better here, the nurses here treat me better than my parents do. Most of all, you’re here! You can play League with me, I like it here.”

Huo Mian smiled to herself bitterly as her heartstrings tugged in pain…

“You need to get better first, kiddo.”

After the walk, Huo Mian cleaned up and ended her nightshift.

Since the batch of new hires came in, her night shifts have been shortened to 10:30 PM.

Huo Mian took her time and left at around eleven o’clock since Qin Chu was in a neighboring town for an opening ceremony and wouldn’t be home.

As soon as she merged onto the highway, she noticed that something was out of place.

A black Honda business van trailed behind her from afar, and it seemed to be following her.

To test out her theory, she deliberately took the closest exit after a turn and headed toward a different direction.

Confirming her suspicion, the Honda Business followed her through the exit. Something was definitely off.

The black car trailed behind her not too closely, but close enough that a speed up would bring them towards her. Huo Mian was unable to verify the number of people in the car, but she was confident that she was being followed…

She stepped on her gas pedal and sped up. Then, she turned on her Bluetooth and dialed Gao Ran’s number.

“Hello?”

“Gao Ran, I’m on the Chen Nan Viaduct, heading towards coordinate 54.271,3. I’m being followed by a black Honda business van. Please send someone to come investigate immediately.”

Huo Mian floored the gas pedal as she hung up and sped towards Huan Cheng Highway again.

“Catch up to her, don’t let her get away.” In the car behind her, a big fellow ordered angrily.
