MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 3 Episode 7
The nurse was fixing her IV drip when Nina slowly opened her eyes. The nurse turned to her and smiled. She asked, “How are you feeling, Mrs. Shi?”
“Better. Thank you,” Nina answered. She anchored her arms on the bed and propped herself up. “I need to go to the bathroom.”
“Sure. Let me help you up. Slow down. You haven’t regained your full strength yet. Take it easy,” she reminded. The nurse looked young, possibly new on the job. She had this aura about her that reflected her desire to help and serve. Nina felt a pang of guilt in her chest for what she was planning to do.
“I’m all right. I can do it.” Although Nina had not eaten anything all day, she was able to replenish her blood sugar with the lollipop.
As Nina made her way to the bathroom, the nurse followed after her and carried her infusion for her.
She entered the bathroom, pursed her lips, and asked the young nurse shyly, “Can you please turn around?”
“All right. No problem.” The nurse spoke with a smile.
As the nurse turned around, Nina’s shy face changed. She stared right at the side of the nurse’s neck. A powerful but restrained pinch on the right spot should render her unconscious.
Nina started peeling off the tape over the needle stuck to the back of her hand. “I may need a while,” she said while taking a deep breath and carefully pulling the needle out of the back of her hand.
The nurse was patient. “Take your time.” Nina’s heart began pounding against her ribcage. She had to incapacitate the nurse if she wanted to escape, but she would not hurt her. After she lost consciousness, Nina would move her to the bed. That was the least she could do for her.
After the needle mark on the back of her hand had finally stopped bleeding, Nina flushed the toilet and pinched the pressure point on the side of her nurse’s neck.
As planned, Nina laid the nurse on the bed and took her uniform. Then, she snapped a surgical mask across her face, rendering herself unrecognizable. She tucked the unconscious young nurse in bed and threw a sheet over her head.
Then, she made sure that nothing looked out of place. The needle that was previously in her arm now had a new home under the sheets right beside the nurse’s hand.
The scene looked completely normal. Taking a deep breath, Nina picked up the tray that the nurse brought in and walked out as if nothing happened. The man guarding her door did not even take a second look.
Before John could return, Nina had successfully slipped out of the hospital and took a taxi to No. 4 West Forest Street.
It was beginning to get dark when she arrived at her destination.
The weather tonight was about the same as yesterday morning. The evening breeze blew softly, but it brought with it an uncomfortable chill.
When Nina pushed the front door open, the room was still intact. The crime scene was left untouched.
She turned on the lights. She was two steps in when she sensed that something was wrong.
The temperature was not right.
The room was a little warm.
When she came in yesterday morning, the room was unnaturally cold, almost the same as the temperature outside.
But Nina dismissed it as her personal feelings toward Kristina’s sudden demise. She guessed that people felt cold in places where a loved one died.
Generally speaking, indoor temperature should be higher than outdoor temperature.
“The air conditioner was turned on yesterday!” It suddenly dawned on her. She began looking for the remote control of the air conditioner in the living room and finally found it under the sofa where Kristina’s body was found.
Nina stooped down and picked it up.
It seemed that the murderer had thrown the remote control under there on purpose.
The little screen on the remote control indicated a very low temperature, which got Nina thinking.

“Why so low?” It took Nina a few seconds to finally realize the possible explanation. Then, she concluded, “The time of death is not right. The killer turned on the air conditioner during the time of the murder to mislead us.

But what should I do? I don’t know how to estimate the time of death given the new information. But I’m pretty sure that Aunt Kristina died before nine o’clock. This changes things.”
Noah was not here, and Nina did not have her cellphone with her. She had no way of telling anyone right now. She might as well just look for other clues.
Yesterday morning, she was not paying enough attention, but now she was thinking more clearly.
Nina walked around the living room and then went upstairs to the room on the second floor. She found something strange.
The bed in the upstairs room was neatly made, but when Nina approached and smelled it, she caught a musty odor. The bed had not been used for a long time.
There were only a few women’s business clothes hanging in the wardrobe, making it look almost empty.
Nina had seen Kristina many times. She never wore business clothes. She was more into beautiful, ladylike dresses, but the dresses that she had seen Kristina wear were nowhere to be found.
The cosmetics and jewelry on the dresser were also so few. It was very unlike Kristina. Nina did not find Kristina’s perfume anywhere as well, which she felt was weird.
When Nina returned to the living room, she realized that the items on the list that Kristina gave her were not in the house.
“This isn’t where she lived.
There has to be another place. If I can find her real residence, maybe I can find something that cracks the case open.” Then, she rushed out the door.
Her handy watch was not on her, so the only way for her to do research was to find a nearby Internet cafe. As soon as she entered, a boy left his station to go to the bathroom. Nina slipped into his seat.
The man sitting next to her was too busy playing games to ask if she knew the boy who had just vacated the seat.
Nina closed the gaming window and pulled up a search engine. With fingers tapping like mad on the keyboard, she began searching for places that were registered in Kristina’s name.
Not for long, something popped up. A private residence at No. 2 Lanting Road.
It was in the suburbs with several villas, and the people who lived there all had their own cars.
Stepping out of the Internet cafe and once again popping the surgical mask on her face, Nina hailed a taxi. It was better for her to travel incognito. John had eyes all over the city. She could easily board a taxi that would drive her straight to Time Group once the driver recognized her. She had come so far. She could not let her efforts end up in vain.
Soon, Nina reached her destination. The taxi driver wanted to charge her two hundred dollars for the trip, but Nina had no cash on her.
She took John’s pen from her pocket and handed it to the driver. “I’ll pay my fare with this.”
Reluctantly, the driver took the pen. “How much is this worth?” Before Nina could answer, he was already swooning over the material from which the pen was made. It was unmistakable. The woman just handed him a gold pen that was worth a small fortune. Nina took the taxi driver’s greedy smile as her cue to get out of the car.
As the taxi sped away, Nina found herself in front of No. 2 Lanting Road. Beyond the iron gate, there was complete darkness.
She approached the gate and shoved it forward. With a soft moan of the hinges, the gate swung open.
Nina was a little surprised to find the gate unlocked. When she was about to step in, someone suddenly stopped her.
“Nina?” Albert stepped out of the darkness, frowning. Surprise was written on his face. A malicious look flashed across his eyes and disappeared in a heartbeat.
The nearest road light to them was so dim that she could not really see Albert’s face clearly. But she recognized his voice. “Albert, what are you doing here?” she asked.
“I should be the one asking you that question,” Albert retorted. Before Nina could reply, he continued, “I live around here. No. 4 Lanting Road. Over there.”
“Really? I just came here looking for someone.” Nina did not speak frankly. Albert probably sensed it, so he changed the subject.
Meanwhile, the taxi driver saw the woman he just dropped off through his rearview mirror. She was now speaking to a man, and the driver saw Albert’s face.
