MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 3 Episode 2
Nina’s lips parted in shock, and her eyes narrowed. “What’s going on? Why is the door locked from outside?”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Nina banged on the door with all her strength, shouting for help. “Helen, Helen, I was locked in the bedroom by accident. Open the door for me!”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Nina slammed her palms against the door, then put her ear against the wood to listen for clues as to what might be transpiring outside.
Soon enough, the sound of footsteps came.
Helen was right outside the door, and she called out, “Mrs. Shi, you’re awake? Are you feeling hungry? Would you like something to eat? Or do you want some fruits? I can bring them to you.”
“No, open the door for me! I have something urgent to deal with,” Nina yelled from the room. All she could think about was confronting John and ask him point blank if he had something to do with Kristina’s death.
If she looked back on his reaction back at the office that time, it was obvious that he knew Kristina was dead and she was investigating the incident.
The reason why he had her knocked her out was probably to prevent her from continuing the investigation.
The more Nina thought about it, the more she wanted to find out the truth. She believed that John was not the murderer; he must have other reasons for doing this to her.
“Helen, open the door! I need to speak with John.” Nina twisted the doorknob a few more times, but the door remained locked.
Helen, on the other hand, was growing flush with fret. “Mrs. Shi, Mr. Shi has given orders to forbid you from exiting the bedroom for even half a step. He has also sent more guards to North Yard, they are littered everywhere. I cannot let you out.”
“What?” Nina was stunned, and the hand that was gripping the doorknob grew limp. Her face paled. “Is he imprisoning me?”
“Bah, what are you talking about, Mrs. Shi? How could he do such a thing to you? He just doesn’t want you to get out of the North Yard for the time being. I’m sure he will let you out after a certain period of time. Then, if you need anything, just let me know and I’ll bring it to you.”
Nina stood still, flabbergasted.
She was at a complete loss for half a minute before she came to her senses.
She turned around and strode to the window. She opened the curtains and looked out. True enough, there were bodyguards stationed practically everywhere, their eyes sharp and their movements hawk-like. They were on a state of constant look-out.
With every little disturbance, one of the men immediately came forward to check on it.
Nina was aghast at what she was seeing. It fueled her anger, and her fists clenched.
‘If this isn’t imprisonment, then what else would a sane person call this?’
Her chin held high, Nina walked back to the door and resumed her banging.
“Open the door, open the door for me! I want to see John! Why did he lock me in without even saying anything? I want to see him!”
Rage was filling chest. “If you don’t open the door, then don’t blame me for smashing it down myself.”
She moved back to brace herself, then landed a perfect roundhouse kick the slab of wood.
Boom!
Pain lanced from the tip of her toes and through her foot, traveling all the way up to her leg. For a moment, Nina was petrified at what was happening.
She pressed a hand against her forehead. She was gritting her teeth, and her fists were clenched so hard she heard her knuckles crack.
‘Stupid!
I was too anxious, too careless!
I’m so stupid.’
“Ouch…” Nina closed her eyes tight shut and tried to take deep, calming breaths.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Helen was feeling restless and apprehensive after she heard the loud bang.
Nina was the type that would definitely do everything she said she would do. She would beat the person up if she said so, and she would smash the door if she said so.
“Mrs. Shi, please understand. It’s not that I don’t want to let you out. I will be fired if I do so.”
This again. John was very good with threats.
“Then let me see John. I want to talk to him in person,” she said through gritted teeth.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Shi. Mr. Shi said he won’t see you for the time being. And you aren’t to be let out no matter what you say. Mrs. Shi, you’ll have to stay in the bedroom for a few days. When Mr. Shi asks me to open the door, you can leave the bedroom.”
Nina sneered, “I don’t want to stay in the bedroom. Ask him to let me out immediately. I have something important to do.”
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Shi. Mr. Shi has ordered-—”
“Okay, stop. I know.” Nina didn’t want to listen any more, and she couldn’t waste any time with Helen here.
John had given his mandate, and the other woman had no choice but to obey it.

“Well, Mrs. Shi, I’ll be leaving now.”
“Wait!” An idea suddenly occurred to Nina, and just in time. This just might be a good reason for them to release her. “I’m still a student, I have classes every day. If you keep me locked in here, what’s going to happen to my courses?”
“You don’t have to worry about that, Mrs. Shi. Mr. Shi had made the necessary arrangements requested for you take a leave of absence from school.”
Nina was speechless.
John did all of this on purpose.
But she still refused to give up. “But I can’t be on indefinite leave. What about my final exam at the end of the semester?”
“Mr. Shi has thought of that as well. He said that given your intelligence, you can start studying a week before the final exam and won’t fail a single course.”
Nina’s hands clenched into fists unconsciously. If John was here at the moment, she would definitely beat him to death.
“My goal is not just that I won’t be suspended. I want to get high marks, points!” she screamed at the door.
“Mr. Shi said that you will not only not fail in the exam but also get high marks. He told you not to worry,” Helen said.
Once again, Nina was speechless. ‘John is so cunning!’
She was livid now, and she didn’t want to hear another word. “You can leave now, Helen.”
If they kept up with this pointless conversation, she knew her anger would only continue to rise.
She only had herself to rely on now.
Nina had resided in North Yard for more than a month at this point, so she was quite familiar with the terrain here. When evening came, she just needed cut off their electrified wire netting and escape in darkness.
Since she was a hacker, cutting off the electrified wire netting was child’s play for her. And as for escaping, well, she had some experience as well.
What was the four-thousand-square-meter North Yard compared to her fifty-thousand-square-meter castle? How could a few dozen bodyguards compare to thousands of security guards back in her own house?
This escape was going to be a piece of cake.
What she needed for now was a computer, the essential weapon for her to carry out her plan.
But when Nina pivoted towards her desk, she found that her computer was missing. Then she discovered that even her phone was missing.
Her teeth ground against each other as she tried to suppress a scream of anger from erupting out of her lips.
John had covered all the bases. He had done everything to seal her in.
Sunlight filtered into the room from the window and hit Nina’s face, shining on the anger that burned in her eyes and the arrogant smirk that twisted her lips.
‘Do you think you can stop me with this?’
Nina raised her left hand and pulled back her sleeve, revealing her watch. It was her secret weapon.
‘Do you think I can do nothing without a real computer?’
John had underestimated her.
After making up her mind to leave this place, Nina’s energy switched focus, and the anger slowly dissipated and left her body.
She spent the whole afternoon observing the situation outside from vantage points in the bedroom. She also made a draft of the position of the bodyguards, and judged their respective strengths by their appearance, their stance, and the way they carried themselves whenever they moved.
When night came, Helen knocked tentatively at the door. Without waiting for an answer, she opened it a crack, then nudged a tray of dinner inside before immediately closing it again.
Nina took the tray and placed it on the table. It held three dishes and a bowl of soup. She needed to work on a full stomach if she wanted to carry her plan out well.
The ideal time for her to start moving was eight o’clock in the evening.
When the clock indicated the hour, Nina activated her virtual computer. With it, she started on destroying the power network system of North Yard. Her mind was going off different directions at the same time, and a chunk of it was calculating the route of escape and the time it was supposed to take.
Three minutes later, the entire North Yard fell into darkness.
The whole place practically blended into the night.
Several noises were coming from outside, presumably the guards scrambling over each other due to the sudden power cut.
“And now it’s time.” The corners of Nina’s lips curved into a smile like a lotus flower blooming in the moonlight. She was brimming with coy confidence.
There was no way anyone could trap her.
