MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 96
“Noah, I’m here,” Nina said softly. She heard the sadness and expectation in Noah’s voice when he called her.
For a second, Noah saw the side of Nina’s face as similar to his aunt’s, but he guessed that grief was just getting the better of him. He comforted himself by imagining what was not really there.
He knew for a fact that he was speaking to Nina at the moment, and she could help him find out the reason behind his aunt’s death.
He did not believe that his aunt committed suicide.
Nina did not believe it either.
The two of them squared their shoulders and tried to suppress the grief in their hearts. Now was not the time for weeping. There were more important things that need attending.
Noah stood up and said to Tom, “Keep this matter under wraps except for the three of us. Don’t let another soul know. I will announce that my aunt is traveling abroad and let Vivian take charge of the Ye Group. I’m sure she will be happy.”
Thinking that Noah was going to secretly investigate Kristina’s suicide and would not focus on his work at the police station, Tom asked, “What do I say to Director Shen? What if a major case comes up?”
“Then you take the lead on it.” Noah looked at Tom intently. He was sure that he could now trust him with the important tasks. “You are already deputy captain, and your criminal investigation ability is not worse than mine. Take this as an opportunity to train. I will find out the cause of my aunt’s death as soon as I can.”
“Captain, thank you for believing in me.” Tom felt that taking up Noah’s mantle was a lot of responsibility, but Noah was right. This was a great opportunity for him to practice.
While Noah and Tom were talking, Nina had been observing the scene. The first thing she noticed was a will and two letters on the tea table. She reached out and picked them up.
“This is Aunt Kristina’s will,” Nina said, skimming the contents of the document. “She left all her shares and real estate to you.
But the handwriting is scribbled like it was written in a hurry.” A hint of curiosity flashed through Nina’s eyes. Her eyes fell on the two letters. They were not stuffed in an envelope and were just folded in half.
One was addressed to Noah, and the other was for Nina.
Nina handed Noah’s letter to him and said, “She left you this. She also left one for me.”
He took the letter from her hand. Together, they read what their respective letters said.
Kristina’s letter to Noah read, “Noah, I’m really worried about you. You haven’t married and fathered children. I’m worried that you will grow old alone, and I don’t want that. I want you to have someone that will take care of you, but all the same, I need you to promise me that you will take good care of yourself.
Eat and sleep on time. The lollipop team will continue to develop. Also, you must be careful of Julie and Vivian. They want all of our family’s properties for themselves. They’ve been plotting against you. You must man up, okay?
Your father and mother worked so hard to gain everything. Do you want it to fall into the hands of unworthy women?
Fight for what’s yours, Noah, and guard your back. Most importantly, I want you to be happy, so I won’t harangue you anymore about being a police officer. I know that your job gives you joy, so I give you my full support. Noah, even after I’m gone, I will still protect you. That’s a promise.”
Kristina’s letter to Nina read, “Nina, I have something to ask of you. Please help me take good care of Noah. Please find a good lady for him. It doesn’t matter whether she comes from a rich family or not. Noah must like her, and she must like him. Only when two people truly love each other can they be happy. If no one urges him, he won’t think about getting married. I’m very worried that he will end up alone. I like you very much. I wanted to make a match between you and Noah, but since you’re already married, that’s just not possible. I just hope that you can help me find a woman for him. I want him to have a long and happy life with someone he loves. That’s all I ask in exchange for me saving your life. That is the only wish I have in the world, Nina. I hope you and Noah can be happy.”
Kristina’s handwriting blurred as tears started streaming down Noah’s face.
With trembling fingertips, he folded the letter carefully and shoved it into the inner pocket of his jacket.
‘Auntie, if you were so worried about me, then why would you commit suicide?
No, this is not suicide. It just can’t be,’ Noah thought.
“Something doesn’t add up.” With a heavy, nasal voice, Nina stared at the letter in her hand with keen eyes.
“What do you mean?” Tom asked in confusion.
“This is Kristina’s handwriting, I’m sure, but…” Noah looked down and saw a pen on the table. He picked it up and looked at it carefully.
“What’s wrong?” Tom asked again.
Nina answered, “Yes, there is something wrong. The content of the letters is short. It means that Aunt Kristina was anxious when she wrote it. She repeatedly said in the letter that she cared about Noah and that she had high hopes for him. How could such a hopeful person commit suicide?”

Tom nodded, “Those who choose to commit suicide are usually hopeless or overwhelmed. Kristina was neither.
Something must have happened.
Besides, Captain Noah doesn’t believe that his aunt killed herself.”
Nina turned the letter over in her hand. She examined the thin sheet of paper and said, “There’s a little blood on the side of my letter.”
Noah walked over and showed the pen in his hand to Nina. He said in a hoarse voice, “There’s also a trace of blood on this pen.”
“What does it mean?” Tom thought for a while and suddenly understood. “If there’s blood on the letter and on the pen, then the victim must have written the letter after she was stabbed in the abdomen. A suicidal person doesn’t write a note after doing the deed. They do that before.
So…” Tom looked up at Noah and Nina.
The three exchanged glances, their faces turning serious. They confirmed in one voice, “It’s not a suicide.”
If Kristina did not kill herself, then someone killed her. This was a homicide case.
Noah’s eyes turned red, full of hatred and bloodlust, but he must keep calm as he always did when solving cases. Being emotional would not help him catch his aunt’s killer.
“The murderer must have left traces in here.” Noah snapped his surgical gloves on and began searching for clues.
Tom and Nina followed his lead.
Tom found Kristina’s phone and turned it on. “Captain, this phone has been restored to factory settings. It’s wiped clean. Is this your aunt’s?”
On the other side, Nina squatted in front of a pile of charred stuff in a corner. “The killer tried to destroy some evidence over here.
There are no fingerprints or other traces of the murderer in the hall, and there are no signs of struggle. They actually did a good job making this look like a suicide.”
Noah stood beside the sofa, looking at the fresh fruits on the table and Kristina’s peaceful face. He frowned and said, “If there are no signs of struggle, then Aunt Kristina must have known her killer.”
Nina raised her eyebrows and replied, “That explains the absence of forced entry as well.”
Noah said, “The coroner puts time of death between nine o’clock and half past nine last night. I need to know who Aunt Kristina last saw before she died.”
Nina’s heart skipped a beat. “She saw me yesterday. I drove her to the Time Group. She said she wanted to talk to John about something important.”
“You? Mr. Shi?” Noah gasped, eyeing Nina intently.
Nina thought for a while and said, “At about eight o’clock last night, I received a message from Aunt Kristina. She asked me to come to a Western restaurant to have dinner with her and Albert. Albert arrived first. After half past eight, I received another message from her asking me and Albert to go ahead and eat without her. We didn’t leave until half past nine, but she never showed up.”
While explaining, she handed her phone to Noah and asked him to check Kristina’s last messages to her.
She and Albert had an alibi.
“As for John, he should be working overtime at the Time Group.” As soon as Nina finished speaking, she felt a slight pinch in her heart. She chose to back John up for no reason.
In truth, she did not know where John was at the time of Kristina’s death.
Nina wanted to slap herself for letting her emotions take the wheel in the middle of an investigation for her husband.
Coincidentally, Tom found something new.
“Captain, I found this stuffed in between the couch cushions.”
It was the pearl bracelet.
