MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 94
It was half past eight when John returned to North Yard.
Glancing around his surroundings, he frowned. Nina was nowhere to be found. He even searched the whole second floor, but he couldn’t find her.
“Where’s Nina?” John asked Amy and Lena.
Normally, Nina would either be sitting on the sofa while watching TV, reading books in the study or testing her makeup in the bedroom.
This had been her routine for the past month.
John didn’t expect her to not be at home that night.
“Mrs. Shi received a call at ten past eight and went out,” Amy said.
John glanced at the time. It was already half past eight.
She had only been gone for twenty minutes.
He assumed that Nina was with Kristina. She was the one who had the closest relationship with her and who could probably ask her out at that moment. John shrugged. If she was with Kristina, it didn’t matter.
“You may leave now.” John waved his hand. Then, he reached out for his pocket and took something out. It was a small pink jewelry box.
Inside the box was the pearl bracelet he had ordered from last time. There were four words carved on it.
As long as Nina wore it, she would remember him and their home at the North Yard.
John imagined that Nina would be happy with the gift, and he would probably receive a kiss from her to thank him.
While thinking about this, the corners of his mouth gradually lifted into a smile.
However, John wasn’t aware that the bracelet inside was missing.
When he was about to open the box, his phone suddenly rang. It was Henry.
“What’s the matter?” John carefully held the small box in his hand as if his life depended on it.
It would be his first gift to Nina.
Henry’s sounded nervous. “Mr. Shi, our people spotted Mrs. Shi and Albert Song at a Western restaurant having dinner.”
Cold sweat rolled down his forehead. Richard had been suspecting Nina, and John had sent someone to tail on Albert. Now they were seen having dinner together.
It was hard to believe that it was a coincidence.
John’s face darkened. His grip on the jewelry box gradually tightened.
He kept silent.
A moment later, John finally said something. “Send me the photo.”
The moment he was done speaking, he opened his WeChat to check the photo from Henry. The high definition picture displayed before him was unmistakable.
The sight of Nina and Albert sitting face to face at a candlelight dinner stung John’s eyes.
“Why do you make me suspect you?” he growled. John turned off the screen, leaned back on the sofa and closed his eyes.
He sounded like he was questioning Nina, but at the same time, he asked himself why he began to doubt her instead.
John didn’t want to suspect Nina, especially now. However, Richard’s theory was quite reasonable.
He let out a deep sigh. Nina had disappointed him very much.
While his eyes were closed, he tried to take in deep breaths. He could hear his heart beating loudly. It wasn’t like how it thumped at the smile of Nina. Instead, it was because of doubt, anger and fear.
When John finally opened his eyes, he had a mask of indifference and ruthlessness. The pink box that he threw in the trash stood out clearly under the warm yellow light.
Sending his gift to the trash meant that he threw away his love for her. Afterwards, John left North Yard.
In the Western restaurant, Nina and Albert were at dinner.
Nina glanced over her watch with her brows furrowed. “Why isn’t Aunt Kristina here yet? Did something happen to her?”
Albert stopped pouring some wine and looked at her. “Did she ask you to come here?” he asked.
Then, he resumed pouring wine into the glass and handed it over to Nina.
“She did. I got a message from her asking me to wait for her here. She said that it was urgent. When I got here, however, I saw you instead.” Nina kept on glancing outside, but Kristina didn’t appear.

“Kristina asked me to come to you, but she didn’t tell me that she would be coming as well.” There was a subtle change on Albert’s expression.
Kristina’s message instructed him to arrive at the restaurant before half past eight and find Nina.
“Is that so?” Nina raised an eyebrow. She had no idea what Kristina was up to. Her face was swept with confusion.
At this moment, her phone vibrated.
Nina opened the message that just arrived. It was from Kristina, telling her to have dinner with Albert first since she wouldn’t be able to arrive because of something urgent.
“Kristina told us to have dinner first. She won’t be able to come because something urgent came up.” Nina smiled and put her phone away.
“Okay.” Albert’s response was brief and he had a strange look on his face.
The food tasted bland to him. He only had a small piece of steak and drank two glasses of red wine.
At about half past nine, Albert left first, leaving Nina alone by the restaurant’s entrance.
Watching Albert’s car disappear around the corner, Nina frowned. “What’s wrong with Albert tonight? He looked absent-minded,” she murmured to herself. Albert had always been a gentleman. He wouldn’t leave until he saw the lady off after a meal.
This time, however, his behavior was not normal.
Nina shrugged it off after a while. Everyone had some bad days. She thought that perhaps something had been bothering Albert.
Nina drove back to North Yard. The whole house was dark except for the lights outside the garden.
When Nina walked in, she turn on the lights in the living room and changed her shoes. She looked around and muttered, “Is John still working overtime?” She glanced around once more, finding that no one was at home.
Nina didn’t suspect much since she was aware that John had been busy recently. She took a blanket and lay on the sofa to play on the laptop.
She recently learned a new hacking technique and she was quite good at it already.
Nina continued to play on her laptop for a while and ignored the time. Later on, she finally let own a big yawn.
Upon glancing at the clock, she realized that it was already one in the morning. John wasn’t back yet.
She glanced over to the closed door. One could hear a pin drop in the empty living room. Nine was currently accompanying her, but somehow she still felt alone.
Not only did John not return, but he didn’t even bother to contact her.
Nina closed her laptop and sat on the sofa with her knees bent over. She began to stare at the door the whole time.
She didn’t move an inch from her position. Instead, she waited for John to come back.
She told herself that she would wait no matter how late it was.
Two hours had already passed, but Nina didn’t hear any signs of John arriving. Her phone lay beside her and it had been silent the whole time.
With eyes already groggy, Nina picked up her phone and started typing. She asked John when he would be home and that she was already getting sleepy from waiting.
Unfortunately, a reply never came. Nina couldn’t hold back anymore. After a few minutes, she unconsciously fell asleep on the sofa.
It was already six in the morning when Nina’s phone rang. It was a call from Tom.
Hearing the noise, the dog started barking.
“John. Don’t make a fuss,” Nina moaned. Since she fell asleep too late last night, she was still very sleepy.
She turned over and almost fell off the sofa.
The slight jolt made her awake and she immediately sat up.
Nina rubbed her sleepy eyes and tried to glance around the living room. Upon seeing that she was still alone, her expression faltered.
John didn’t come back the whole night. Nina glanced over to her phone.
It continuously kept on vibrating as she stared at it for a while.
Finally, she answered the call and was met by Tom’s hoarse voice. He was calling from the police station.
“Ms. Lu, Kristina Ye is dead. She might have committed suicide.”
