MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 90
John narrowed his eyes at Adrian. “What’s so funny?” he asked.
He stared at him intently, waiting for an answer. Adrian shook his head. “Nothing. Nothing’s funny,” he replied while desperately calming himself down.
He had never offended anyone. He was not about to offend John now.
He cleared his throat, took a deep breath, and asked cautiously, “So last night, Mrs. Shi…”
“Not last night,” John interjected.
Whenever it was half past eleven in the evening, the alarm clock would ring. Nina set it that way so that she could be reminded of his bedtime.
John had a regular routine and had always relied on his biological clock. But he felt good when Nina reminded him to go to bed on time.
So he just let her remind him.
Little by little, he had stopped bothering her at night, so their husband-and-wife activities were pushed earlier in the day.
Adrian smiled meaningfully and said, “So you two did it during…”
“Daytime, yes,” John snapped, starting to feel a little impatient. With another cold and stern look from John, Adrian shut up and reconsidered his next words.
Seeing that John was still frowning, Adrian had to risk his life to advise him. “Mr. Shi, why don’t you just ask your wife if she was not …satisfied?”
Adrian thought saying the word would pop his brain out of his skull. It was so much pressure talking to John about such matters. He did not usually stutter, but John’s powerful presence easily dumbed down any usually articulate person.
The entire world knew that John was a dangerous man, and nobody in their right mind would dare use improper words in front of him, especially Adrian. When John did not respond, Adrian prodded, “Okay. How about this? Maybe you just picked the wrong time to be intimate with her. After all, she’s young and shy. Maybe she finds afternoon delights awkward and a little embarrassing.”
With the hard expression on his face unchanged, John simply nodded and replied, “I guess that makes sense.”
Adrian’s heart finally stopped pounding against his ribcage. He breathed a sigh of relief.
After their conversation, John and Adrian came out of the study. They found Nina sitting in the living room and watching TV. James was behind her, massaging her shoulders. A small, satisfied sound escaped Nina’s throat as she felt her neck and shoulder muscles relax. James said with a smile, “Remember, Aunt Nina, you’re to speak to Uncle John, okay?
Tomorrow is the deadline. You must help Emma.”
“Where did you learn to massage so well?” Nina asked, ignoring James’s reminder. She felt quite relaxed. She had been either sitting or lying in bed for the past two days, and she had not been exercising well.
James especially learned his massage skills from a professional massage therapist. He took lessons to please John.
He smiled at Nina’s question and replied, “I’m smart. I can grasp any skill after watching how it’s done.”
“Oh, please. You didn’t just watch. Someone taught you.” Nina was a good judge of skill. By the way James worked her neck and shoulder muscles, she could tell that he was taught by an expert.
“Again, I’m a smart cookie, Aunt Nina. I can learn anything without hiring someone to teach me,” James lied through his teeth. Anyway, John had not come out of his study yet. He was not there to call out his bragging.
“If you’re so smart, then why did you finish last in your grade last school year?” James whipped his head around and saw John and Adrian standing behind him.
Feeling a chill down his spine, he quickly let go of Nina and stood up straight. “Uncle John, Mr. Song, I didn’t see you there. You’re done with your work.”
‘Why didn’t Uncle John make any sound when he walked?’ he thought to himself.
James was a little nervous praising himself in front of Nina, but he thought that the more Nina knew about his merits, the more chance she would mention them to Emma. Per usual, he could count on John to bring up his messy past.
“Uncle John…” He could do nothing at this point but to just avert his gaze. John was not wrong after all.
John walked over and stood beside him, ushering him to stand aside and not too close to his wife.
James swallowed. Last time, a nasty rumor almost turned him into a full-fledged beggar. He could not forget that lesson, and he could not afford another lesson now that he was on a mission to impress Emma.
John’s cold stare was enough to make James scurry away to stand beside Adrian.
Hearing the familiar voice and smelling the familiar smell, Nina turned around, put her hands on the edge of the sofa, raised her head, and asked, “Are you guys done talking?”
“Yes,” John answered. He looked away, afraid that Nina would ask him what they talked about.
However, Nina was not interested in their conversation. She glanced at the direction of the kitchen and said, “Helen went out to get something for me. Can you help me get some fruits from the kitchen? Helen has already cut them. Can you get them for me, please?”
John was about to move toward the kitchen, but he suddenly realized that James and Adrian were in the room.
He had always been dignified in front of others. How could he do anything to serve his wife?
However, it was too late. They had already seen John being obedient to his wife.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that John halted, Nina slowly grasped that his husband still cared about his dignity. She lowered her eyes for a moment and smiled gently. “Please bring me those fruits. I’d do it for you if you were injured,” she cooed, batting her eyelashes.

This time, John smiled. Nina knew exactly what to say to bend him.
With a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, John dipped his chin in acknowledgement and strode toward the kitchen.
He found that there was indeed a plate of cut fruits next to the chopping block. He took the plate and was about to head back to the living room, but then an apple and a paring knife caught his attention.
What did his little girl say just now?
If he got hurt, he could order her around.
Without hesitation, John picked up the paring knife and sliced the apple. Taking a lesson from his injured leg last time, he deliberately slid his hand and cut his right index finger. The one-centimeter wound then began gushing blood.
This time, he was not pretending.
Before walking out to give Nina her plate of fruits, John grabbed a paper towel and clumsily plugged his wound.
He then returned to the living room and handed Nina the plate in such a way that she would see his bleeding cut.
“John, why is your finger bleeding?” As expected, when Nina saw the blood-soaked paper towel messily wrapped around John’s finger, she got so nervous that she instinctively stood up.
Consequently, she lost her balance and fell forward.
“Watch out!” John quickly crossed the remaining distance between himself and Nina and caught her. He held her and helped her get back on the sofa. A hint of worry flashed through his eyes. “Are you okay?”
“Show me your hand.” Nina did not care about her sprained ankle at all. She grabbed John’s right hand and saw the blood already running down his index finger.
She just asked him to get a fruit plate. How on earth did he hurt his hand? Such a useless man!
Adrian and James were stunned by the scene that had just unfolded before them.
Nina whipped her head toward James and snapped, “James, what are you standing around there for? Go get the medicine box! Now!”
“All right, all right. I’ll be back soon.” James got so scared by Nina’s yelling that he just practically scrammed.
Meanwhile, Adrian stood there, looking at the mischievous smile on John’s face. He smiled and shook his head. He was able to guess the truth.
John had wounded himself on purpose to manipulate his wife. It was such a small trick that he did not even like pulling. He used to think it was terrible, yet he did it quite skillfully.
“I got the medicine box!” James yelled, running into the living room. He put the medicine box on the coffee table, opened it, and fumbled around for something to stop the bleeding of John’s wound.
When James was finally able to find some cotton balls, he handed them over to Nina. Nina kept her composure as she pressed a cotton ball against John’s finger. “I ask you to get a plate of fruits for me, and you come back with a bleeding hand. What’s wrong with you? Does it hurt?”
“It was an accident,” John answered nonchalantly. Thinking of what Kristina had done in the hospital, he decided to act shamelessly. “It really hurts. I don’t think I can use chopsticks or get my hand wet for the next few days. You have to take care of me.”
James was dipping a cotton ball into a bottle of alcohol.
He could not believe he just saw John acting so shamelessly.
It was just a small cut. Why was John acting like he just got shot?
Startled by his uncle’s reaction, James dropped the bottle on the floor. With a soft thud, it landed on its side, spilling its contents on the carpet.
Adrian was forced to take action.
He took the cotton ball from James and gave it to Nina. “Mrs. Shi, please wipe the blood on Mr. Shi’s hand.”
Then, he grabbed James by the collar and started dragging him out of the room.
“Where are we going? I have to help Uncle John and Aunt Nina,” James complained.
“Oh, you are not helping. Let’s just leave them alone. They don’t need us. He can be her feet, and she can be his hands.”
Adrian was still within earshot when he said that, so John was able to hear him. He raised his eyebrows. It was not such a bad idea.
“Little girl, I can be your feet, and you can be my hands. Wherever you want to go, I’ll take you. Whatever I need to do with my hands, you have to do it for me. What do you think?” John stared longingly at Nina while she kept pressure on his wound. She was concentrating so hard on his injured finger that she appeared as if she did not hear what he just said.
His little girl looked serious and worried.
John’s heart beat fiercely at the sight. He liked her even more.
