Seeing all of them chatting happily, Vivian felt that they were a real family while she was an outsider looking in. She did not want to stay any longer. She smiled and said, “Auntie, I will come to take care of you from time to time in the next half month.”

“You? Take care of me? No, thanks. You’re a rich lady. You should just enjoy being taken care of. I have Noah to take care of me,” Kristina refused, showing no attempt to cushion the blow at all.

Vivian had always groveled for Kristina’s attention, but Kristina openly expressed her disdain for her. She could not be good to her after everything she and her mother had done to hurt Noah.

The mother-and-daughter duo had been plotting against him since day one, and Kristina remembered everything.

As long as Kristina was alive, then Julie and Vivian could never take anything from Noah.

“I’m sorry, Aunt Kristina. I’m not good at taking care of others. Noah, please take good care of Aunt Kristina. Thank you.” Vivian pretended to not understand her sarcasm.

Every time she called Kristina a “rich lady”, what she really meant was that she was the daughter of a gold-digging mistress.

But even if that were true, Vivian was now considered a real Ye. She behaved like a graceful lady and didn’t argue with Kristina.

Noah knew that his aunt did not like Vivian, so he decided to break the tension between them. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her. You can go home now,” he said.

“Thank you, Noah.” Vivian chuckled to herself. She only offered to take care of Kristina because she was sure that she would refuse.

She did not need to take care of Kristina or Nina or anyone for that matter.

She turned to Nina and said, “I’m sorry for what happened to you, Nina. I wish I could stay and take care of you.”

Vivian’s words might be apologetic, but her eyes were filled with disgust.

She also turned to John who was sitting on the sofa. “I’m sorry, Mr. Shi,” she said.

John did not respond.

Embarrassed, Vivian turned around and left.

“Mr. Shi? Is he here?” Kristina was flabbergasted when she saw John there sitting beside Nina like an emotionless statue. “Mr. Shi? Why are you here?”

Nina smiled, turned to look at Kristina, and blurted out, “Because I’m here.”

John laughed. He laughed because Nina’s words were music to his ears.

It was so good hearing such an acknowledgement from her.

There was still a look of astonishment on Kristina’s face as if she had just heard something unbelievable. She leaned toward Nina and whispered in her ear, “Did he just laugh or did I just hallucinate?”

“Yes, he did just laugh,” Nina replied. She just shook her head at Kristina’s reaction. Was it strange that John laughed?

She had actually lost count of how many times she had heard it.

John’s laughter sounded so pleasant and mesmerizing that it was like a soul-stirring spell.

Noah then commented, “Mr. Shi seems to only laugh in front of Nini.”

His clear eyes swept over John and Nina, and his face suddenly darkened.

Noticing the disappointment in Noah’s eyes, Kristina frowned. She was finally able to confirm her guess.

Noah did have feelings for Nina, but unfortunately, she was already married to John.

And Nina and John seemed to really like each other and enjoy each other’s company.

It was immoral to break up a couple. Kristina had to stop Noah before they found out.

She pretended to be angry and said, “Nina, you can’t always show off your love for Mr. Shi in front of Noah. He doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, and he may really envy you.

Nina, can you please do me a favor? Do you know any single girl from a decent family? Maybe you can introduce her to Noah. I will truly appreciate it.”

“Well…” Nina was stunned. She did not have the potential to be a matchmaker. “I don’t mean right now, though, but maybe some time in the future. My biggest wish now is to see Noah get married and have his own family.”

Kristina’s eyes were full of the vicissitudes of life. There was a little note of helplessness in her words, but her eyes were still full of expectations for the future.

Noah could not stand it anymore. “Aunt Kristina, I have my own plan. You don’t have to worry so much.”

“Really? What’s your plan then? Tell me,” Kristina challenged. She rolled her eyes at her nephew and slid into bed. “I have to get more sleep.”

Noah smiled and said to Nina, “Nini, don’t take my aunt’s words seriously.”

“I agree with Kristina, Noah. It’s time for you to get married.” John stood up and motioned for Nina to lie down. As soon as her head hit the pillow, he covered her with the quilt.

Looking at John, Nina asked suspiciously, “What are you doing? I’m still talking to Noah.”

The annoyance on John’s face made his features look like they were carved out of stone.

“He’s on his way out. You shouldn’t be bothering him.” In truth, John was worried that Noah might have a crush on his wife, so he did not want him to talk to her any more than he needed to.

Noah was able to take the hint. John was being overprotective of his wife because he felt threatened by his relationship with her.

After all, he and Nina had learned to treat each other not just as colleagues but also as family. It was completely understandable that John was being paranoid.

It showed that he really cared about Nina.

Nodding, Noah said, “Yes, I’ll have to head out and investigate what happened today. If you can keep my aunt company while I’m gone, I’ll appreciate it.”

Then, he turned around and left.

As soon as he closed the door to the ward behind him, he saw a man and a woman walking toward him. They were Glenn and Amelia, Isabella’s parents.

Seeing Noah, Glenn walked over and shook hands with him. He apologized, “I’m really sorry, Mr. Ye. Isabella made a mistake. I hope you can forgive her. How is Kristina now? And Nina. How are they doing?”

Noah frowned slightly, but he still answered patiently, “Aunt Kristina and Nina are no longer in danger. They are resting. Please don’t disturb them for the time being.”

Hearing that Nina and Kristina were fine, Glenn breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good, that’s good. We’ll pay them a visit another day.”

Amelia did not say a word. She just looked at Noah from time to time. She knew that Noah was the leader of the criminal investigation team, and she had guessed some reason for her daughter’s behavior today.

Her daughter must hate Nina to the core and wanted to hurt her. It just so happened that Kristina was also there. Isabella did not expect that she would hit Kristina by accident, which made the situation worse. She had provoked the Ye family and the Shi family at the same time.

As a mother, Amelia could not stand by and watch her daughter be investigated and sent to jail.

“I admit that my daughter is at fault, Mr. Ye, but the real criminal is the one who wanted to hurt Isabella. He tampered with her car, which caused the brakes failure. If it weren’t for that, my daughter wouldn’t have met the accident.”

Noah thought about Amelia’s statement for a second. It was clear, logical, and possibly accurate.

It even sounded flawless, but it did not cover Isabella’s side of the story.

Amelia might have a reasonable statement, but Noah would need Isabella’s statement to put the pieces together.

He guessed that this accident might not be that simple. He needed to talk to Isabella in person.

“I want to see Isabella and get her side of the story.”

Amelia had expected that answer from Noah and so she said, “Of course, Mr. Ye. This way.”

However, Isabella did not run away. She was kidnapped by Albert.
