- Season 2 Episode 83 - (A Husband sings his wife a tune)
Noah was surprised to see Vivian. He easily spotted the caution in her eyes.
This was precisely the reason why he was reluctant to tell his family that he was back. Both Julie and Vivian seemed to assume that he was planning to take the family properties for himself when in fact, he just wanted to be a good policeman.
He couldn’t help but feel like a failure when his biological father was dissatisfied with him. He didn’t even seem to like him.
Only Kristina cared about him.
She took charge of the Ye Group and controlled half of the Ye family’s assets. She did all of this just for him.
Unfortunately, Noah might just end up disappointing Kristina. He had a very different idea of how he intended to live his life.
Inheriting such a large family business and so much property was not for him. “Come in,” Noah said coolly, putting on a pleasant smile.
It wasn’t until then that Vivian realized her mistake. She gathered herself and politely nodded at Noah, smiling. “Noah, I’m here to visit Auntie.”
Noah turned to let her in.
When she saw Nina, shock registered on her face. “Nina, what are you doing here?”
Her voice sounded a little impatient.
She seemed mildly dismayed. First, she saw Noah, her competition for the family properties, and then Nina, her competition for John.
Misery does love company.
She clenched her teeth as she tightened her grip on her bag where her fingernails dug into the leather of the bag.
“I’m here because I got into an accident too.” Nina never liked Vivian because she found Vivian to be dishonest—she never seemed sincere in her actions.
No one was stopping anyone from liking anyone. Thus, it wasn’t wrong that Vivian liked John. Naturally, Nina would be jealous but she wouldn’t hate Vivian for that.
Vivian was, however, disingenuous.
That was the reason why Nina would never be friends with Vivian.
“Looks like you have a problem with my wife,” John said without even looking at Vivian.
He was quite popular with women. Vivian had liked him for years.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t interested in her at all.
As far as he was concerned, Nina was the only woman in his eyes.
Every time Nina mentioned that she didn’t like Vivian, he couldn’t help but grin.
Nina was jealous.
He liked seeing her like that.
He glanced at Nina and flashed her a smile.
The room was filled with a variety of emotions—joy, envy, distress. Meanwhile, Vivian seemed visibly surprised that John was in the ward. She stiffly turned only to find John sitting on the sofa, his back straightened and his face pale.
“Mr. Shi.” Vivian broke out into a generous smile. “Oh, Mr. Shi, are you joking? Why would I have a problem with Nina? I heard from the news that Nina was also injured. I was just wondering why she wasn’t staying in her own ward so she could rest.”
The look on Nina’s face shifted in the slightest bit. “Well, this is my ward too.”
“What?” Vivian was taken aback. ‘Nina, stealing my man wasn’t enough for you? Now you’re trying to steal Kristina away from me and consequently my family properties?
Do you really think you and Kristina are already in good terms just because she let you call her Aunt?
Do you really think your relationship with John is going to last just because you married him?
Sooner or later, John and the family properties will be mine, where they rightfully belong.’
Vivian calmed herself down as she put on a gentle smile. “That’s great. This way I can take care of Aunt and you at the same time.
How bad is your injury, Nina?” she asked with concern.
Nina looked at Vivian in disbelief. “You’re going to take care of me and Aunt Kristina?”
She seemed surprised.

How could anyone stand to take care of their rival in love? Nina wouldn’t be able to do that as she couldn’t even stomach seeing her rival in love.
She couldn’t help but wonder if she was narrow-minded.
There could be another possibility though. Vivian could be dim-witted.
The sun shone through the window, making Vivian seem fairer in her white dress.
“Yes. Aunt is injured. Of course, I’m going to take care of her until she recovers. Since you’re also here, I might as well take care of you too.” A lighthearted smile was plastered across Vivian’s face.
At first glance, one would think she was a kind and innocent fairy.
People often wore masks. No one knew what anyone was hiding.
People who wore masks often wore them so well that no one would notice the terrible things they were doing.
“Thank you, Vivian.” Nina wasn’t one to turn down someone who was willing to take care of her.
Vivian was rendered speechless. Still, she kept the smile pasted on her face. Inwardly, she cursed Nina. ‘Who would want to take care of you?
Nina, you’re nothing but a shameless bitch!’
Meanwhile, John quipped, “Do you want me to pay on a daily or weekly basis, Miss Ye?”
A thick silence enveloped the ward.
Nina thought to herself, ‘Is this what they call “A husband sings his wife’s tune”?’
Henry coughed as he darted his eyes. John had always been good at subtle jabs like this.
As expected, a sour look appeared on Vivian’s face.
‘What is John trying to imply? Does he think I’m a servant who’s in charge of looking after Nina?
Is he trying to cheapen me with money?
He has never treated me like this before
I’m sure Nina’s responsible for this.’ Vivian ground her teeth, seething with resentment. She managed to force out a sentence, her voice light. “Mr. Shi, I want to take care of Nina. I don’t need…”
“You don’t need a salary, right?” John finally looked at Vivian.
Feeling his gaze on her, she smiled at him. She started to explain herself. “It’s not that. It’s just…”
“Oh, I don’t mind if you just do it as a volunteer,” John cut off Vivian. With that, he returned his attention to his work as he added calmly, “I’ll make sure to let everyone know what a good person you are.”
Nina was at a loss for words. She took pleasure in Vivian’s misfortune.
She discreetly glanced at John who met her gaze. In response, he arched his eyebrows knowingly at her.
“No, no.” Embarrassed, Vivian shook her head, the smile on her face slowly dissipating.
Wasn’t John practically forcing her to take good care of Nina?
The color drained out of Vivian’s face as tears welled up in her eyes. It was hard not to feel sorry for her.
Noah couldn’t stand seeing Vivian be treated like this. After all, he was her brother. He chimed in, “Nini and Mr. Shi are just kidding. I’ll take care of Aunt while Mr. Shi watches over Nini. Vivian, nothing you’ve experienced in your life has prepared you for this. You don’t know how to take care of them anyway. When Aunt wakes up, you can stay with her for a while. Then you can go home and tell your parents that she’s fine.”
“Okay.” Vivian purposely avoided Noah’s gaze. He’d always been nice to her. Unfortunately, she had no choice but to go against him. If she didn’t, she and her mother would not be able to get any properties. The good life they’d been dreaming of would just vanish.
She had already gotten used to living a comfortable life. She’d rather die than go back to being poor.
Hearing what Noah said, Nina figured she should be a little nicer to Vivian. After all, she was Noah’s sister.
Noah wouldn’t hesitate to swoop in and defend Nina if she was being mistreated.
However, Nina’s sudden silence angered John.
He couldn’t stand that Nina was being nice to Noah.
“I’m not kidding,” John said coldly. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that he was aiming at Noah and Vivian.
