MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 77
In the office
John got to his feet and walked towards his desk. Staring at the spicy dishes on the table, he smiled.
His wife was getting more and more thoughtful. She even brought lunch for him.
Too bad she didn’t cook it herself.
John picked up his chopsticks and reached out to pick up a bite. Before he could do so, someone took the chopsticks away.
“What the hell are you doing? Were you going to eat that? You don’t eat spicy food!” Jessica refused to give him the chopsticks.
“I know,” said John indifferently.
Jessica was so angry that her hand trembled. “You know? And you still want to eat it?”
“You don’t like spicy food, right?” asked Vivian in a soft voice. She stared at his food in displeasure.
He really wanted to eat the food Nina brought here!
“As my sister said, it’s just that I don’t want to eat it, not that I can’t eat it.” John picked up another pair of chopsticks and proceeded to grab another piece.
It was indeed a little too spicy.
He could barely eat it.
Jessica was rendered speechless by his words. She got angry and said, “Don’t eat that.
John, I’m going to straight up tell you. Don’t get too involved with Nina. She doesn’t even know what you like to eat. How can she be your wife? She doesn’t care about you at all.” She didn’t want her brother taken in by this shrew.
She told him Nina was not a good person. She just liked money.
John paused, chopsticks halfway between the bowl and his mouth. He slowly put down the utensils and turned to look at his sister.
He just stared at her quietly, lost in thought.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Something in his gaze made Jessica nervous. “Am I wrong? She doesn’t get you, so she doesn’t care about you. What kind of wife is that? Are you insane, or something? Treating her like a princess?”
Vivian decided to remain silent. She couldn’t say anything bad about Nina around John. That would only cause problems.
She clearly saw the defensive look in John’s eyes, as if he were ready to fight.
What happened next proved Vivian right.
John asked, “So? You and Jason have known each other for ten years and been married for five. Do you know what he likes?”
Jessica was startled by his question. She opened her mouth but couldn’t answer.
Then John pressed the issue. “Jason has always treated you like a princess. I take it he’s insane, too?”
Jason was not only a university professor, but also managed a part of the Fu family business. He was interested in studying literature and being a university teacher, but in order to marry Jessica, he needed to have money and power.
“I…” Jessica was still astonished. She remembered her husband had been so busy recently that he was almost never at home. That thought hit her like a slap.
But she was from a rich family. Her family spoiled her, and she usually got her way.
Wherever she went, she was praised and worshiped.
As the favorite daughter of Sam, she should get the best perks from that. Everyone would go out of their way to satisfy her.
She was raised like that. Jessica had come to expect it.
“That’s what he should do. He’s my husband, so he should treat me like a queen. He’s lucky he married me.”
Jessica nodded and raised her eyebrows. She was right, and she knew it.
In the past, John never paid much attention to what she said, because he knew Jason and Jessica loved each other.
At that time, John didn’t know what love was.
He didn’t understand until he met the love of his life.
Love was equal and mutual. You had to be willing to compromise, because that way both people got what they wanted. And the rewards of harmony were sweet indeed.
John suddenly realized he couldn’t agree with her values.

Jason was his friend. They grew up together. He had to remind his sister, “I wouldn’t tell him that.”
John wouldn’t be surprised if Jason left her someday.
“What do you mean?” Arms crossed now, Jessica was really angry.
John didn’t want to talk to her anymore. He walked over, opened the door, and said, “Henry, please see Jessica out.” Henry nodded and reported, “Mrs. Shi just left, Mr. Shi.”
He took a look at the lunch in the trash can and said, “Guess she was in a bad mood before she took off.”
Taking a glance at the food in the trash can, which was still steaming, John asked in a stern voice, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“She didn’t want me to say anything, so I—” Before Henry could finish his explanation, John was already out the door.
In the North Yard
Nina listlessly put on her slippers and ambled upstairs like one of the walking dead.
She had been thinking about it the whole time. She didn’t know John at all. She didn’t even know that he didn’t like spicy food.
Nina felt a little sorry for him.
She said she liked him, but she couldn’t do anything he liked.
“Mrs. Shi, you’re back!” Hearing the footsteps, Helen hurried to the living room. She looked at Nina standing at the stairs, kitchen knife in hand, and said with a smile, “Mrs. Shi, Mr. Shi said that you love seafood. I’ll cook up a monkfish for you tonight.”
“Monkfish?” Nina was from C Island, so she was familiar with that particular fish. It was also called anglerfish. She’d seen them before: huge head, freakish face, and rows of razor-sharp teeth. It didn’t stop a monkfish fillet from tasting absolutely delicious.
Helen knew she would like it. “Yes, I’ve asked someone to stop by one of the markets and get you a fresh monkfish. I’m going to cook dinner for you. But there’s a problem. I’m not sure how to skin and fillet the thing. It’s my first time dealing with that kind of fish.”
Nina was a little depressed. “Yeah, it’s kind of a pain. If you haven’t done it before, it might be hard for you. Since you don’t know much about it, you don’t have to cook it.”
“Mrs. Shi, what are you talking about? It’s a chance for me to learn something new. If I don’t know something, I should learn. You’re a college student. You should know this. If I give up this easy, you won’t get to taste it.” Instead of blaming her, Helen went into the kitchen with a smile.
Nina stood there and felt numb.
The sound of chopping vegetables from the kitchen woke her from her reverie.
Just as Helen’s words woke her from her everyday life and showed her something new.
And those sage words also gave her an idea. She didn’t really know John.
If she didn’t know him that well, then she should find out more about him.
Nina had an epiphany.
Suddenly, she turned and went downstairs. Standing at the door of the kitchen, she leaned her head into the kitchen and found that Helen was watching a video teaching her how to prepare the meal.
“Helen, I have something to ask you.” Nina pursed her lips, and her eyes blinked like stars in the sky.
Helen looked back at Nina and smiled kindly. “If you don’t mind the smell, go ahead. Otherwise, you may have to wait.”
“I don’t mind.” Nina walked to Helen’s side and pursed her lips. “Helen, you know John, right?”
“I’ve taken care of Mr. Shi for a long time. What do you want to know?”
Nina was happy. Sure enough, she asked the right person.
“What does he like to eat? What would he like if I were to get him a gift?”
“Why don’t you ask him yourself? I’m sure he’ll be glad to tell you.”
Nina rolled her eyes in her heart. If she asked him straight up, how would she know if he were telling the truth?
That man made lying a habit.
