MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 76
Nina was holding a new lunch box in her hand, a gentle smile on her face. She knew that John had already come back from his meeting when she saw Henry.
She cheerfully approached him, but her steps faltered as she saw something wrong with Henry’s expression.
“What’s happened?”
Henry didn’t dare to look at Nina. “Mrs. Shi, Mr. Shi hasn’t come back yet.” Henry lied to her.
Nina could tell at a single glance.
Since Henry lied, something shady must be going on in the office.
Then, Nina heard a familiar female voice and name.
“John, Vivi and I have come to see you.” Jessica took a thermos from Vivian’s hand. “This is the chicken soup, which I had my chef prepare especially for you. Eat it while it’s still warm.”
At the last family dinner, Jessica realized that her rudeness had resulted in dissatisfaction among their family members. After her husband’s repeated persuasion, she had personally apologized to her father and sister-in-law.
They had already forgiven her.
Now, she came here to apologize to her brother.
Jessica was so keen on saving face that she did not want to just apologize directly to the wronged party. She only wanted to mollify them in other ways.
All of her family members knew her well. A visit from her bearing chicken soup was a conciliatory act and tantamount to an admission of guilt. They usually forgave her afterwards.
“I don’t want to drink chicken soup.” Such an action implied that John was rejecting her apology.
Jessica was stunned. She didn’t expect that her brother would embarrass her like this for a woman. Anger flared inside her heart.
Since she was a child, she had never been wronged like this. The whole family thought that she was at fault.
Vivian held Jessica’s hand and consoled her, “Jessica, don’t be angry. You are here to make up with Brother John, aren’t you?”
Yes, she came here to make peace with her brother.
However, how on earth did Vivian know?
Noticing Jessica’s sharp look, Vivian realized that she had spilled the beans. She knew that Jessica intended to visit John to make up with him because of the micro bug that was secretly attached to the necklace around her neck.
After finding out about Jessica’s plan to see their brother, Vivian hurried over and arranged a seemingly accidental meeting with her on the only route to John’s office. Then, she tagged along.
Jessica had never told Vivian about it.
Realizing that something was wrong, Vivian quickly changed the topic and said, “Mr. Shi, this chicken soup is very delicious. You must try it. I smelled it just now while it was in the thermos. I’m sure that apart from asking the cook to prepare it, Jessica must have instructed him on how to do it. Isn’t that right?
Jessica is really nice to you. I also want to have a sister like her. ”
Jessica was moved by Vivian’s glowing praise for her kindness toward her brother. Vivian was someone who understood how much effort it took on her part to always be there for her brother. Everything she did was for John’s sake.
“John, this chicken soup is very delicious. It’s just that you don’t want to drink it, not that you can’t drink it. Have a taste. If it really doesn’t taste good, then don’t drink it. What do you think?”
Jessica’s attention was successfully diverted. Vivian breathed a sigh of relief.
Any mention of her relationship with her sibling was a useful tool to distract Jessica.
Vivian continued, “Mr. Shi, it’s time for lunch now. I think you haven’t had yours yet. Why don’t you have some soup first? After all, Jessica cares for you so much.”
“Vivi, you really are so considerate.” Jessica lowered her eyes sadly.
John frowned slightly. He really did not want to keep on quarreling with his sister. “Okay.”
“Really?” Jessica looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with joy. She then opened the lunch box, and a strong smell of chicken soup floated out. The chicken which was stewed for a long time was very delicious, and the mushrooms soaking in the soup were fragrant with the sumptuous aroma.
“Vivi, hand me a spoon.”
“Okay. Here you go.” Vivian gave her a porcelain bowl and a delicate spoon. Jessica filled a bowl and handed it to John. “Try it. It’s really delicious.”
Looking at his sister’s expectant eyes, John could not refuse. He reached out his hand and took the proffered bowl. Then, Jessica tugged at his arm and led him to the lounge.
She had just sat down when she was on her feet again, walking over to the table to bring the rest of the soup. She sat next to John and fussed over him while he ate.

Nina smiled upon hearing Jessica’s caring words to John. Jessica really loved her brother. She not only acted like John’s elder sister but also like a mother doting on her child.
No wonder Jessica was always up in arms against her. She probably thought that she was not good enough for John and did not deserve him.
Henry focused his attention on the changes in her expression. He took a deep breath when he saw her gentle face.
Before he could exhale, he heard a voice from inside, which made him pause for a second and hold his breath.
‘Damn it! This is going to be bad.’
“Oh, there is food here. Nina must have brought this to you, correct?” Vivian accidentally caught a glimpse of the lunch box on the table. She opened it and saw several red peppers.
The spicy smell nearly had her choking. John didn’t like spicy food, so she herself never ate anything with pepper.
She suppressed a cough and quickly concealed the flash of cunningness in her eyes.
It seemed that Nina didn’t know much about John. She did not know of his fear of the water, nor was she aware of his dislike for anything spicy.
It looked like the heavens were supporting her, too.
Vivian turned around and smiled at the two of them. She said in an envious tone, “Nina is so kind to you. She even came to deliver food herself. Looks like there are several dishes in here. The smell is making me salivate.”
“Don’t touch my things.” Vivian’s face turned pale when she heard John’s cold tone. She quickly stood aside and bowed her head to apologize. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
Contrary to her words, she touched the lunch box on purpose.
She opened it and deliberately stood aside so that Jessica could see what was inside.
When Jessica heard Nina’s name, her gaze sharpened, and she naturally paid attention. When she looked at the contents, she saw several spicy stir-fried dishes.
She stomped toward the table, her high heels clicking ominously, and laid out all of the dishes with a frown. Except for the white rice and the light soup, all of the dishes were either liberally studded with chili or swimming in chili oil.
Everything looked spicy.
“Is this the food from Nina?” Jessica whirled around and questioned John in a scolding tone. “What’s wrong with her? Is she not aware that you could not stand spicy food? She brought spicy food on purpose.”
“What? Mr. Shi cannot eat spicy food?”
Vivian exclaimed in affected surprise, but she was smug inside. “Jessica, you must have been mistaken. Nina is Mr. Shi’s wife, so how could she not know his preferences? ”
“I’m his sister. How can I not know? He’s always had a low tolerance for spice even as a child. My father would ban the chefs from preparing spicy food whenever John is at the table. I can’t be wrong about this.” Jessica’s temper flared so easily.
“I think it’s Nina’s fault. Either she did it on purpose, or she doesn’t know John at all. Why did you marry a woman like her? She doesn’t care for you at all. Who does she think she is?”
“Enough!” John put down the bowl he was holding and slammed a palm on the table.
The office fell silent.
Outside John’s office, Nina couldn’t see anything, but she heard every word exchanged inside.
She lowered her eyes and asked Henry in a subdued voice, “He doesn’t like spicy food, does he?”
Stunned, Henry failed to answer.
She took his silence for a yes.
She blinked her eyes, chucked the lunch box in her hand into the nearest trash bin, and said calmly, “I’m going back.”
As it turned out, she didn’t know him at all.
“Mrs. Shi…” Henry called out, but Nina didn’t come back.
He threw a sideways glance at the door of the president’s office and sighed.
Jessica and Vivian had done something terrible.
