MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 74
Nina’s heart skipped a beat.
As she had expected, John was suspicious of her true identity.
A thick silence fell upon them as only the sounds of their breathing hung in the air.
Squinting at the bright lights, she lowered her gaze and pursed her lips wordlessly.
Meanwhile, John glued his eyes towards the night sky as he stood in front of the window. The yellow disc that was the moon hid behind the clouds.
The night was getting deeper.
In the dark, it was hard to tell whether or not the person standing next to him was loyal towards him or just waiting for an opportunity to deal with him.
In the dark, his senses were much more heightened. Suddenly, he was embraced from behind as a fragrance lingered under his nose.
Nina’s soft voice rang into his ears as she wrapped her arms around his waist.
“I love you. It doesn’t matter if I’m good or bad—I will never do anything to harm you.
I didn’t mean to hide my identity from you. I have my own reasons.”
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust John. She just couldn’t risk one more person knowing about her true identity. It would make things even more dangerous.
If her parents found out that she had married John, they would force them to divorce. They believed that the princess of C Island could only marry a real aristocrat, not some hot shot businessman.
The Nangong family was an example of a true aristocrat family—they were the most prominent and noble family in C Island.
A true aristocrat was reputable, politically powerful, and should hail from an illustrious family.
While John was from a distinguished family, he was still a businessman.
This meant that he did not have much political power.
He was well-known in that everyone feared him. He didn’t have a good reputation.
He was not reputable.
If he found out that the royal family of C Island did not approve of him, he would be humiliated.
“Trust me. If I were a bad guy, I wouldn’t have stayed with you. I cherish my life too much. I would never do anything like that.” Nina raised her hand as if to swear, seemingly more playful than anxious.
A smile broke out into John’s face.
To others, explanations might seem like excuses, but to him, this meant that she cared about him.
Now more than ever, he knew how much she truly cared about him.
Still, that didn’t change the fact that she had been hiding her true identity all this time and that was unforgivable.
“I’m going to take a shower,” he said, his tone utterly emotionless.
Nina reluctantly loosened her hands and pouted. “Okay.”
She watched as John entered the bathroom. After a few moments, the sound of water running came.
Nina lay on the bed, staring at the bare ceiling as she sighed endlessly. What did John mean?
Did he believe her or not?
Normally, she could easily read other people’s thoughts. But when it came to John, she found it difficult to do so.
Since she didn’t know much about John yet, she had to turn to other people who knew him better.
She grabbed her phone and pulled up her WeChat. She looked for James and messaged him. “How well do you know your uncle?”
James seemed unoccupied as he replied immediately, “Pretty well. Why? What do you want to know? I’ll tell you everything I know, but Aunt Nina, I’ve been short of cash recently.
Would you like to…?”
Nina quickly replied, “100,000 dollars.” “Okay, feel free to ask me whatever you want to know.”
She quickly sat up, her attention piqued. She began typing up what had happened just now, making sure to leave out the details about her identity.
“I was sincere when I told him everything but he didn’t say anything in response. Instead, he just said that he wanted to take a shower. He didn’t seem angry to me though. Do you think he believes me?”
“Of course! Uncle John believes you. He’s just pretty closed off so he won’t tell you what he really thinks. If he changes the topic calmly, that means he believes you.

Aunt Nina, trust me. I know him. You can rely on me,” James said.
Nina was rendered speechless. ‘Rely on him? I can trust him?’
“I’m telling you that Uncle John trusts you. If you don’t believe me, I can tell you how to prove it. You can try it later. I’m sure it’ll work.”
Nina paused, giving it some thought before responding, “Tell me then.”
Looking mischievous, he said, “Aunt Nina, I’m still a little short of money.” Nina answered without hesitation, “100,000 dollars.”
James said, “Okay, that’s 200,000 in total. Deal. You can pretend you’re asleep, then ask him the things you want to know. He’ll answer you honestly. Since he thinks you’re asleep, he won’t hesitate to answer because you won’t hear him anyway. Then he won’t feel embarrassed. I know him very well. This is definitely going to work.”
She pondered over this, concluding that it made sense.
When James began looking for the money, she said, “I already gave you 200,000 when I took the taxi last time.” James was stunned. “What?” ‘Are you kidding me?’
James sent her countless messages but received no response. Nina had already turned her phone off.
The best way to deal with James was to ignore him.
This was the method that Nina had learned from John.
Half an hour later
John stepped out of the bathroom clad in his bathrobe. He found that Nina was already asleep with her back turned to him.
She purposely turned her back to him because she was afraid that he would find out that she was just pretending to be asleep.
With her eyes shut, she pulled the quilt up and carefully listened to every sound.
She heard light footsteps while the faint smell of shampoo filled her nose.
The quilt was suddenly lifted up as she felt his body inch towards her. He stretched out his arm so that he could cradle her head in his arm.
He was so gentle that Nina barely felt any movement.
She could feel his tenderness for her. For some reason, this wasn’t a new feeling. He’d always been like this with her but she just never paid attention until now.
“Hmm…” she mumbled as she stirred. She turned over and buried her head into John’s arms so that he wouldn’t notice that she was actually not asleep.
She carefully placed her hand against John’s chest; it felt cold and mildly damp.
He had just taken a cold shower after all.
He then turned off the lights.
Darkness abound the room.
He slowly closed his eyes.
She discreetly opened her eyes in fear that he would fall asleep and she would be unable to carry out her plan.
Then she closed her eyes again and whispered, “John…”
John opened his eyes, turned his head and stared at Nina in the darkness.
Inwardly, she chuckled as she stirred, continuing to talk to in her sleep. “Believe me, John, believe me,” she said softly.
She was the type of person who could be talked into things as long as she wasn’t forced into it. John, however, was different—neither force nor persuasion worked on him. But when it came to Nina, all bets were off. It didn’t matter if he was forced or persuaded. Anything would work on him as long as it was Nina.
He couldn’t stand to see her wronged. As he listened to her mumbling, he tenderly grazed her cheek and turned his body towards her. “I believe you,” he whispered.
He then planted a soft kiss on her hair, the affection in his eyes palpable. When she heard his words, she could feel his warmth towards her.
Nina rubbed her head against his arms, smiling in ease. She played with her fingers across his chest.
As he listened to her breathing, he couldn’t help but slightly shake his head.
This little liar.
Meeting her was the best accident of his life.
She appeared in his life out of nowhere only for him to fall in love with her.
Even though he didn’t know about her true identity, he still chose to believe her and stay with her.
