MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 73
About three minutes later, Nina’s body went slack. She leaned back in John’s arms, and her eyes became blurry.
“Did you smoke on your way back? The smell’s a bit heavier than usual.” Nina turned around in his arms, still stepping on John’s feet. To keep herself from falling, she stood on tiptoe and wound her arms around his neck. She sniffed him and commented, “Really, the smell is really heavy. You smoked a lot, didn’t you?”
One of the first things that she found out about John was that he was a heavy smoker. He liked smoking very much. Strangely, however, she had never seen him smoking in front of her. Whenever he smoked, he would stand by an opened window so that the smell of smoke could be dispersed.
She vaguely felt that it was something he did for her sake.
Nina had always lacked a sense of security since she was a child and was sensitive by nature. She plucked up courage to say those words to John just now.
John knew that Nina had keen observation skills. He just said softly, “Yes.”
His dark eyes grew even darker. He looked down out the young woman in front of him with a frown on his face, but that vanished immediately.
Nina asked, “Are you worried because of the spy in the company?”
John shook his head. “No.”
He had never smoked to relieve his business worries. He would only use sharp, decisive means to deal with his competitors.
He only smoked so much because of Nina.
“You don’t like it when I smoke?” With a smile, John rubbed Nina’s head.
“I didn’t mean that. It’s just that the smell of cigarette smoke easily makes me choke.” Nina told him the truth and looked up at him. “Why haven’t you smoked in front of me?”
He didn’t answer.
The first time he had ever smoked in front of Nina, he heard her cough. Thus, he didn’t smoke in front of her anymore.
Every time he thought of their acquaintance, he was conflicted. He didn’t know whether she had been set up or she had set him up.
He carefully put down Nina and changed the topic. “It’s twelve o’clock—time to sleep. You have classes tomorrow morning.”
Then he turned around and headed upstairs.
Nina stood there unmoving, staring at his retreating back with an unhappy look in her eyes.
She felt that John was worried about something.
What was worse, she was afraid that it had something to do with her.
The events in the IT department today came to her mind. John was astute, so he must have figured out that she was Elk according to what Henry had said.
Not long ago, she had attacked the system of the Time Group.
Nina knew that John was extremely careful about the things and people around him. Maybe he had misunderstood her.
No, she had to explain to him her side.
“Wait for me!” Nina hurtled through the bedroom door and stopped short at the sight of John pulling on a night robe. Her eyes were drawn to his strong chest. His long straight legs were partly hidden by the robe’s length.
“Do you want to take a shower?” Nina’s hands flew up to cover her eyes, but she peeked at John secretly.
‘How could a man have such a handsome face and an incredible body?’
She could not resist looking at him.
She remembered the reason why she chased after him. She dropped her hands from her face and walked forward to grab John’s large, powerful hands. She asked, “Are you angry at me because I once attacked your security system?”
“What?” After a short pause, he looked into Nina’s glistening eyes, which betrayed a hint of anxiety and fear.
Her expression showed how afraid she was of him misunderstanding her intentions.
She looked pitiful.
John’s heart softened. He drew her into his arms and said gently, “No, don’t make blind assumptions.”
He smiled. He didn’t expect Nina to care enough about his thoughts that she would attempt to iron out any possible misunderstandings.
He liked her so much that he couldn’t help but go soft on her.

“Actually, you can’t blame me for what I did at the time. You’ve always had a lot of free time and picked on me incessantly. I wanted you to be so busy that you wouldn’t have time to bother me anymore. I made that bug that attacked your system—I designed it so that it would automatically terminate the next morning. I have no plans of taking your company’s money because I don’t lack it.” The smell of tobacco wafting from John was so pleasant. She slid her arms around his waist and huddled closer to him.
John’s mouth twitched.
Was she saying that it was his fault?
“Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a bad person. I’m actually a good person,” Nina said.
Her words rendered him speechless.
Would a bad guy ever admit to being bad?
“I trust you,” he murmured, not even caring about the consequences of saying so.
However, it was her identity that worried him.
It was ill-advised to be with a person whose identity was unknown. Who knew if that hidden information would be a ticking time bomb?
Hearing his tone, Nina realized that he didn’t really believe her. There must be something else bothering him inside. “If you want to know anything, just go ahead and ask me directly. Don’t hold back, or you may get sick. It would be troublesome for me to find a new man if there’s something wrong with you.” Again, John couldn’t say anything in response.
The first half of what Nina just said was like music to his ears. However, the second half was quite insulting.
“Who will be the new man, in that case? Noah or James?” John peeled Nina off of him with an air of injured dignity. With gritted teeth, he raised his hands and pinched both of her cheeks.
The little girl was too bold to say such rebellious words.
She really deserved punishment. A kiss!
He bent over and covered Nina’s mouth with his.
The kiss lasted for several moments. Nina struggled. Her face, which was still being pinched by John, was starting to hurt.
Nina pushed him away and took a gulp of fresh air. She then hastily explained, “John, I’m just kidding.”
“No jokes allowed.” How could she casually joke about that?
She had promised that he would be her first and last man.
This little liar!
“Okay, okay, it’s not a joke. It’s not a joke.” Nina raised her hand and tried to break free from his grasp, but she failed because his hands were so strong.
The harder she struggled, the tighter his hold became.
“It’s not a joke? Huh?” Under John’s cold stare, Nina felt like weeping.
Nina was so anxious that she was at a loss for words. Besides, her mouth was twisted because of John’s hold.
‘One day, she will make me lose my temper,’ he thought.
His hold on her cheeks loosened, and he said in a deep voice, “Never make such a joke ever again.”
“Okay, okay,” Nina said reassuringly. She felt that calming John down was her first priority at that moment.
After he let go of her, he looked at her with narrowed eyes and asked the question that had been bugging him for a while now.
“Are you the famous painter Elk?” “Yes.” Nina nodded calmly.
“The international hacker Elk?”
This time, Nina didn’t answer directly—instead, she stared up at him, stunned. Her eyes became unreadable pools, as if she had guessed what he was worried about.
She still nodded, “Yes.”
“Then…” John looked away from Nina and looked at the boundless night through the glass window.
With a complex expression on his face, he asked in a voice lower than usual, “Who are you?”
‘Nina, who are you?’
