MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 68
Nina lowered her eyes, her long lashes concealing the emotions in her eyes. She held the coffee cup with one hand and stirred the contents with the spoon she held in the other hand.
She affected an air of nonchalance.
“I’m from C Island, but I am not aware that the princess has escaped.” Nina looked up at Noah.
The two people looked calmly at each other.
Noah averted his eyes and said in a level tone, “The royal family of C Island sent someone to Spring City in the hopes that the director of the police station could send people to secretly look for her.
The director sent people to search the city for her, but failed. He presumed that she had left the city. He then contacted all the major police stations in the country and given orders for them to look for her secretly. This matter has already been relayed to the chief of police, who has deemed this matter to be of utmost importance.”
Nina listened quietly. “So…Director Shen gave you this order?”
“Yes. Director Shen wants me to find her as soon as possible and then notify C Island of her whereabouts so that they could bring her back,” Noah said calmly. He took out a photo from his pocket and placed it on the table in front of Nina.
“Nina, you are the princess of C Island.” Noah tried his best to calm himself down, but his voice was trembling.
He had initially speculated that Nina was the daughter of a rich family in C Island, but it never occurred to him that she might be the missing princess favored by thousands of people in C Island.
Nina heard Noah’s clear, powerful voice, and her body stiffened. The sight of the photo on the table made her breath hitch.
In the photo, the delicate face of an eighteen-year-old girl was the central figure. Her eyebrows were beautifully arched, her eyes were as dewy as a doe’s, and her jaw was prominently displayed. All in all, her face looked cold and elegant.
Her ink-black hair was curled up in a chic updo, and a simple, elegant crystal diamond crown was placed on her head. The pearls on her earlobes shimmered like drops of water, and the diamond necklace around her neck glittered blindingly. Her lips, which were painted with vermillion lipstick, stood out strikingly on her pale face.
She looked intellectual and noble.
The young woman wearing an elegant dress sat in a white carriage decorated with arches with climbing vines and profuse blooms. The crowds on both sides of the road were cheering enthusiastically.
This was a photo of the princess on her eighteenth birthday.
The girl in the photo was none other than Nina.
She was the princess who had escaped from the C Island two years ago.
“Noah…” Nina picked up the photo and stared at it for a long time. Different emotions flashed in her eyes, leaving her with a conflicted expression.
“I don’t want to go back,” Nina said in a low voice, thereby confirming her identity to the man before her. She tore the photo in front of her with her slender fingers.
Halves… Quarters… She tore the photo into unrecognizable little bits.
Then, she tossed the confetti-like remains of the photo on the table.
Noah was thunderstruck by Nina’s admission. He stared at the shredded photo and reached out a hand to take back the pieces.
He supposed that he could still recover the photo if he patched up the pieces carefully enough.
“You don’t have to go back if you don’t want to.” Noah placed the ripped photo back into his pocket and smiled at Nina.
His sandpaper-rough voice had always been able to inspire confidence in other people and make them believe him involuntarily.
Concealing the worry in her eyes from the older man, Nina smiled brightly and said in coy manner, “Thank you, Noah, you’re the best. You’re just as good as my brother.”
Back then, she was able to escape due to her brother’s help. Otherwise, how could she have escaped from the security guards on patrol at home?
Noah’s exhaustion faded at the sight of Nina’s happiness. He returned her grin with a satisfied smile of his own.
Even so, he reminded her, “Nina, I won’t be able to keep your secret for too long—you have to make a plan soon. This matter concerns the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
If I can’t provide accurate information within one or two months and the other cities report no trace of you, the people in C Island would come and look for you themselves.”
Nina had already considered the issue that Noah was worried about.

In the past two years, her family had sent people to secretly look for her. However, she did her best to keep under the radar, and she deliberately concealed her identity so that they wouldn’t be able to find her anywhere.
Now, they had already enlisted the help of the police, which meant that they were in a hurry to find her.
They were searching for her not because they missed her, but for another reason.
This was also the main reason why she escaped from the C Island.
To the outside world, the princess of C Island was of the noblest birth and loved by many people. She was the luckiest girl in the world.
For Nina, however, being born into the royal family was the most accursed fate. The concept of freedom was alien to her, and she had always been restricted by her identity. She always had to think twice before doing anything. She had to be generous and decent at all times. Her marriage had already been arranged.
The end of her life as she knew it was dawning in her horizon, and this fact filled her with panic.
The real panic lay not in being left in the dark—it was in knowing exactly what one’s life would be at a glance and having nothing to look forward to for the rest of one’s life.
“Thank you, Noah. Just keep it a secret for the time being. I’ll figure out a way.” Nina forced a smile and changed the topic.
“By the way, Aunt Kristina misses you so much. She asked me to relay those words to you. Would you like to contact her?” This was why Nina came to Noah. She had been delaying it for several days and felt sorry for Kristina.
Noah turned on his phone again and showed her the screen. It was a message from Nina saying exactly what she said earlier about his aunt missing him.
“I will contact her. Don’t worry.”
“Okay.” Nina stood up. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go first.”
“Nina, Take care. Send me a message when you get home.” Noah turned around and waved at Nina. He didn’t know why he was reluctant to let her leave.
Nina sat in her car in a daze.
Her eyes were moist and slightly red-rimmed.
She missed her family.
She missed her home, but she could never go back.
She couldn’t even sneak in to secretly catch a glimpse of her parents and her brother. Once she made an appearance in the C Island, people were bound to recognize her.
Elk was the national treasure in C Island.
C Island was a prosperous island surrounded by the sea. The island covered a vast area of one hundred and sixty thousand square kilometers but was sparsely populated by only nearly twenty million people.
This maritime city is known as the richest country in the world.
The bulk of C Island’s wealth came from the rapid development of its shipping and fishing industries, but its most prestigious exports were petrochemicals and minerals. All aspects of the country’s commerce was highly developed.
When ordinary citizens of the C Island with small assets went to other countries, they were usually considered as billionaires wherever they went.
Thus, C Island’s royal family, which had full control of its economic power, was even more influential and richer by comparison.
Nina was a member of this illustrious clan.
Bruce Lu, her father, was the king of C Island, and her mother, the former international actress Anne, was its queen. Her brother, Leon Lu, was the future heir.
Therefore, Nina’s status was extremely lofty, and she was brought up as befitting her birthright.
However, she had been placed under tremendous pressure ever since she was a child.
For as long as she could remember, she was seldom in the company of her parents; instead, she was constantly accompanied by a small army of educators—five language teachers, one martial arts master, one vocal coach, three dance instructors, piano tutors, and etiquette trainers, as well as different teachers for painting and calligraphy.
