MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 62
John and Nina continued to move forward. After glancing around, he said slowly, “Tonight is very different.”
He did not expect that in order to welcome Nina, Sam had decorated the whole house in such a festive way. The carpet had been changed into a red one, and even the flowers had been replaced with red roses.
She was about to formally meet John’s family, so Nina was a little nervous. Her palms were sweating. “Yes, it’s quite different.”
She had never felt this nervous, which was weird considering she used to attend all kinds of large-scale banquets in C Island.
It was said that only an ugly woman would get nervous when she went to meet her spouse’s family, but she was not ugly.
Why was she so nervous?
Nina’s entire body tensed. The only person that could make her feel at ease was John, so she reached out to him.
“Nervous?” John asked, looking at her. He held her hand and squeezed it gently to comfort her. “I’m here.”
The warmth from his palm seeped into her skin and sent a wave of calm over her. She took a deep breath and felt her muscles slowly relax.
“I’m not nervous,” she denied sheepishly. John simply smiled at her and took her to the dining hall. Nina squared her shoulders and followed his lead. She always remembered to smile every time she found herself in such a situation. Her eyes were clear, and she walked with her head held high. Every step she took was full of effortless elegance.
She was not usually like this, but growing up, she was taught the so-called aristocratic behavior by etiquette teachers.
Finally, they entered the dining hall. With her hand in his, John led Nina to the dining table.
The large, rectangular dining table was full of delicious food and embellished with flowers. Western food and Chinese food mingled and surrounded by bottles of expensive red wine. A gorgeous crystal chandelier hung above, casting sparkling orange light all over the room.
Seated at the head of the table, Sam smiled gently and waved at Nina. “I’m so happy to see you tonight, Nina. I hope you’re hungry. Come sit beside me.”
“Okay,” Nina beamed. She made her way to occupy the empty seat on Sam’s right-hand side.
On her way there, she passed behind Jessica and Jason. She clearly heard Jessica snort.
Nina did not care.
Sam decided to ignore John. As soon as Nina sat down, he introduced her to everyone. “Welcome to our family, Nina. Meet your brother-in-law, Daniel, his wife, Angela, and their children, James and Dora.”
“Daniel, Angela, James, Dora.” Nina nodded politely.
Daniel and his wife smiled. Nina was much more beautiful in person.
“This is for you, Nina. Our welcome gift for you.” Angela took out two red envelopes and asked the servant behind her to hand them to Nina.
“Thank you so much. I appreciate it.”
James looked at the two red envelopes and began obsessing over them. He was sure that there were two checks in them. He watched as Nina took the envelopes and set them on the table. He could not help feeling jealous.
Daniel patted the back of James’ head and said, “Be a good boy and greet your aunt Nina.”
“Dad, can you not pat my head in front of Aunt Nina?” James whined. He then turned to Nina. “Welcome, Aunt Nina.”
Dora stared at Nina with bright eyes. She already knew that Nina was beautiful, but she was still surprised when she saw her face to face. She blurted out, “You’re gorgeous, Nina!”
James slapped the back of her head. “That’s Aunt Nina. Don’t be disrespectful.”
Dora moaned. “Why did you hit me?” She turned to look at her brother, pouting with grievance.
“Don’t talk to your sister like that, James,” Daniel warned.
“I…” James was really pissed off!

What was up with his father? Why was he picking on him? He treated them differently tonight.
Nina smiled. The meeting turned out to be different from what she had imagined. She thought that in a top-class family like John’s, everyone was prim and proper and ate dinner without speaking to one another.
At least everyone else in her family was.
Her family had always been cold and somewhat inhuman.
Seeing the smile on Nina’s face, Dora said, “Nina, you look so beautiful when you smile!”
This time, Angela finally said, “Dora, please address her as Aunt Nina.”
“But she’s only two years older than I am. It’s better to call her Nina. She’s too young to be called Aunt Nina.” Dora pouted. Then, she beamed playfully at Nina and said, “I’ll call you Nina. What do you think?”
Nina certainly had no objection. In fact, she preferred it. Being called Aunt Nina made her feel older than she really was.
“Sure.”
“No, you can’t.” With a darkened face, John glanced at her coldly.
As John’s cold voice pierced the air, the dining hall fell silent. It was like the calm before the storm.
Startled, Dora lowered her head and changed her tone. She bowed toward Nina’s direction and said, “Aunt Nina.”
“That’s better.” After saying that, John glanced at Nina who was now frozen in her seat.
Judging from the expression on John’s face, Nina was sure that she had just gotten herself in trouble again.
She looked at her lower body and slowly breathed a sigh of relief.
‘I’m on my period,’ she reminded herself.
In the dead silence of the room, Sam laughed boisterously. “You should pardon the children, Nina. They’re just way too excited to have you as a new member of our family,” he said like nothing happened.
“It’s okay.” Nina’s lips curled into a smile. She liked James and Dora. The two of them made the dining room livelier.
Nina sat with John at his right and Jessica at his left. She felt really uncomfortable.
Sam then continued, “Nina, I would also like for you to meet Nelson and his family. Chester is his son. He’s a clever boy.”
It seemed that Sam attached great importance to Chester. Chester was to be trained by Sam to become the next head of the Shi family.
Nina dipped her chin to acknowledge Chester.
“Pleasure to meet you.” She then received two more red envelopes. “Aunt Nina,” Chester said, bowing slightly. Nina looked at the man seated to Jessica’s left. The man looked back at her and smiled. “Hello, Nina!”
Noticing that Jason and Nina seemed to know each other, Sam asked, “Jason, do you know Nina?”
“Nina is my student, Dad.”
“Well, it seems that Nina is really destined to be a member of our family.” Sam laughed even more happily.
Although Nina did not like Jessica, Jessica was still John’s sister, so she greeted them politely. “Jessica, Jason.”
Jason smiled back and handed her a red envelope. Jessica kept a cold face and did not move.
She still could not admit that Nina was her sister-in-law.
Everyone had noticed Jessica’s displeasure, and the atmosphere in the dining hall once again turned cold and heavy. Sam was not satisfied with his daughter’s attitude, but she was his favorite daughter. He simply said to her, “Jessica, aren’t you going to greet your sister-in-law?”
Jessica sneered, “No, I’m not. I won’t accept her as my sister-in-law.”
