MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND - Season 2 Episode 44
When John heard that Nina had escaped, he burst into a menacing fury. The air around him was freezing cold, and no one dared to get close to him.
“Richard, send everyone out to secretly search for her,” he ordered.
“Yes, sir.” Richard was not only the leader of the Shi family’s two hundred guards, but he was also the leader of forty people who were loyally assigned to John. With John’s order, he quickly sent out the remaining guards to search for the missing Nina.
All the guards of the Shi family moved with breakneck speed. Each of them drove an inconspicuous SUV, and searched every inch of Lexington City in secret.
Each of the cars was low-key and they scattered in different directions, so they wouldn’t be easily noticed. But Nina and Noah were people who were sensitive to their surroundings. The more dangerous a situation they were in was, the more diligently careful they observed the surrounding environment.
“Noah, there is something wrong with that car,” Nina said as she pointed at a black SUV not far away, and frowned slightly with anxiety. She saw a small bulge on the car, which was not characteristic of its original version.
“There’s a monitor, a micro monitor which can rotate 360 degrees to any direction,” Noah knowingly explained. He happened to know this kind of monitor, and had seen it in a case wherein a rich family had been kidnapped.
He glanced at the plate number of the car again, and had a feeling that it was familiar. His brain was running fast. “It’s a car from the Shi family.”
“Sure enough, he has sent someone to catch me.” Nina sighed and narrowed her eyes dangerously. With fast reflex, she quickly unfastened her seat belt, and turned to sit in the back seat.
“Have you offended Mr. Shi?” By then, Noah was not yet aware that Nina was John’s wife, so he could not think of any reason why John would initiate a manhunt for her.
But Noah felt that Nina offending John was highly impossible. According to his understanding of John and his attitude towards Nina last time they met, John treated her well. Why would he send so many people to catch her now?
Nina didn’t have the time to explain anything to Noah at the moment, but she could think of no one but Noah to ask for help. “Noah, please help me! Please! I beg you! John is very smart. If I hide somewhere else, he will definitely be able to find me. You not only have a strong investigative ability, but you also possess a stronger anti-detection capability. Please, don’t let him take me back.”
Noah looked at Nina through the rearview mirror in contemplation. Her face was slightly wrinkled with worry. She bit her lips helplessly, and put her palms together as if in prayer, her expression pleading woefully.
“Noah, please help me,” she begged. Nina could only place her hopes on Noah whom she highly admired. She couldn’t go back to the North Yard yet. Even if she liked John, taking on the role as his real wife had not crossed her mind and she had no plans of doing so.
“Okay, I will help you,” Noah nodded in agreement. His deep and hoarse voice sounded reassuring and steady.
“Thank you, Noah.” Nina’s eyes brightened with anticipation. She really saw hope with Noah’s words.
At this time, a suspicious-looking car was driving towards them. Nina immediately crouched in the back seat, and successfully dodged the search.
With John’s ability to control half of Lexingport City, Noah couldn’t arrange for Nina to be anywhere else, so he could only take her back to his apartment resignedly.
Noah’s apartment was just four hundred meters away from the police station. It was an ordinary residential building with only five floors. There was no elevator, so they had no choice but to take the stairs.
The stairs were very clean, and there were white and orange tiles on the floor. Barefooted, Nina felt the coldness of the tile with every step she took.
After some time, they were on the fifth floor.
Noah opened the door quietly, and Nina timidly followed in. The apartment was spacious, bright and tidy. Beside the sofa was a huge bookshelf, which was filled with books related to police investigations and crimes. On the other side of the bookshelf was a desk, on which there was a pot of cactus. A beautiful dainty yellow flower bloomed on it.
“Nini, you can go and sit on the sofa first.”
“Okay,” Nina meekly agreed. She stepped on the soft carpet and sat on the sofa. Suddenly, she felt a slight pain from the soles of her feet.
She found that her feet had been scratched and they were covered with mud and blood stains.

She had been busy running away in haste, so she had no time to pay attention to any objects on the ground that might hurt her feet, and had no time to feel the pain from the soles of her feet either.
Now, sitting quietly, the pain in her feet was gradually making its presence be felt more and more, which made her slightly frown with pain. She looked around in search of the bathroom. She wanted to wash her feet clean to see how serious her injuries were.
When she happened to glance at the location of the bathroom, Noah came over with a basin of warm water, and put it in front of Nina. With a flicker of worry in his eyes, he said with concern, “Wash your feet first to see if you are injured.”
“Thank you, Noah.” Nina’s eyes were full of gratitude. It was very easy to make things better, but it was difficult to provide help in a timely manner.
Noah was indeed such a good man. The girl who would get to marry him in the future would be very lucky and happy.
“You’re welcome. There are three bedrooms in this apartment. You can stay here first as long as you want, and you can leave anytime you want.” Noah frowned apprehensively when he saw Nina’s white and tender feet in the warm water. The clear water became a little muddy, and the water was gradually mixed with blood.
“Nini, your feet are injured,” Noah gently said with worry.
“Ouch!” Nina whined as she took a deep breath. While running earlier, her feet were a little numb, so she didn’t feel any pain at all. But now that her feet had been cleaned with warm water, she could clearly feel the pain.
“I think so, too. Noah, do you have a medicine kit?” Nina took her freshly washed feet out of the basin and lightly dried them with a clean towel.
“Wait a minute,” Noah said and turned around to get the medicine kit. At this moment, Nina was sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed. She held her ankles with her hands, and was turning her feet over to look at her injuries. There was a long cut of about three centimeters on her right foot, and some small wounds on her left foot. They were still bleeding.
“I just walked around the park. How did I get to scratch my feet like this?” Nina mused.
“Don’t touch your feet. Let me take a look at them,” Noah said and sat on the sofa. He put the medicine kit aside for a while, and put Nina’s feet on his thighs. He bent down to check her feet carefully.
Except for her brother and John, Nina had never been in such close proximity to any man before. She felt awkward, especially when she put her legs on someone else’s thighs. She could feel a sense of warmth seeping through his thin suit pants.
“No need, I can check it myself,” Nina shyly said, looking at him, and retracted her feet. After all, it was improper for a man to touch a woman so intimately. Noah raised his eyes to look at Nina inquisitively. Noticing a slight tinge of estrangement in her eyes, he couldn’t help laughing heartily. “Nina, I’m your senior, not anyone else.”
This simple sentence made Nina absent-minded with a dazed expression on her face. Her brother had once said the similar words to her.
When she was young, she lost her way in the forest of C Island, and fell down accidentally. When her brother found her, he squatted down in front of her and wanted to carry her on his back.
Back then, she remembered what the teacher had told her, so she said to her brother that it was improper for a man to touch a woman.
Nina could still remember her brother’s helpless expression at that time. He gently put his hands on her shoulders and patiently explained, “Nini, I’m your brother, not anyone else. It’s absolutely normal for a brother to carry his sister.”
Hearing Noah’s words right now, Nina seemed to go back to the past. Her brother’s figure gradually overlapped with Noah’s. She stared at Noah with her wet alluring eyes, and whispered in a daze, “Brother…”
Noah was stunned for a moment, and then smiled gently. “I’m your senior, and you can treat me as your brother.”
Then, he tenderly pulled over Nina’s feet and put them on his leg. He slowly turned around and opened the medicine kit, took out the disinfecting alcohol, and bent down to disinfect Nina’s wounds tenderly.
“Nini, this might hurt a little. Bear with it for a while.” Before applying the medicine, Noah prepared her psychologically with concern in his mellow voice, as if coaxing a child.
