MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 4 Episode 6
In North Yard, Nina still lay in bed, trying to pass the time.
She picked up her phone and checked WeChat Moments to distract herself.
In Beggars’ Sect, she asked, “James, how did you manage to actually get Emma?”
Michelle chimed in, “He disguised himself as a woman.”
Nina was astonished.
‘A man disguised as a woman?’
Nina had no idea what they were talking about. Michelle sent her a photo. It looked to be a woman hiding behind Emma, crouching to look a little shorter.
Emma snickered and reached out to stop the person behind her.
Nina didn’t care about any of that though. Her eye were fixated on the dress.
Nina said, “This dress looks familiar.”
Michelle said, “Nini, this is your dress. The man hiding behind her is James.”
“Ha-ha…” Nina laughed and couldn’t take her eyes off this ridiculous picture. “Did James wear my dress?”
James popped in, texting in a rage, “Mimi, when did you take the photo? Michelle giggled and said, “Just this morning. I took it with my phone.”
James exclaimed, “Damn it! Delete it; otherwise I’m going to kick you out of the group.”
Michelle replied, “No way. This is a beautiful memory of you and my cousin. I can’t delete it.”
James said, “No, you have to delete it. If my girlfriend sees it, it’ll be so embarrassing.”
Saying that, he was reminded of the news.
Nina invited Emma to join the group chat.
James was currently in a class but he stood up in terror and mumbled, “Shit…”
He turned around and sprinted out, not caring what was happening in the class.
Of course nobody was going to blame him for any disruption though. He was a Shi after all.
The two women chatted happily with the new member of Beggars’ Sect, but James didn’t say a word.
He was so furious that he called Emma to vent his grievances. He wanted to scream and shout but as soon as he heard her voice, all his anger disappeared.
“What’s wrong?”
“Emma, where are you?”
“In the dormitory.”
“Okay, I’m coming to get you in ten minutes. We’re going out to celebrate.” James hadn’t forgotten what today was. It was May 20th, the day to express his love.
This was the day she agreed to be his girlfriend.
Stunned, Emma replied, “Okay.”
Since they were speaking on the phone, they disappeared from the group chat. Nina asked, “Where are they?”
Michelle said, “Maybe they are celebrating.”
“Celebrating?
For what?”
Nina hardly kept up with any of the festivals so she was curious.
Before she could get an answer, she received a call from Noah.
Noah said he was going to celebrate her birthday although her birthday was yesterday.
Since the surprise last night, Nina began to like celebrating her birthday. She left the North Yard cheerfully.
She didn’t bring Amy or Lena with her. Noah had made a reservation in a lovely Chinese restaurant.
The restaurant was quite peaceful. It was beside a serene gurgling river that was lined with gorgeous willows beside the stone road.
It was the only restaurant on the street. All the other shops were selling flowers or boutiques with very little attention being paid to them.
Nina reached the restaurant.
The old-fashioned design was more like a tea house, full of leisure.

Nina stood at the door and saw several guests through the glass window. Noah sat against the wall.
When she pushed the door open, she heard a little girl’s timid voice perk up. “Welcome.”
Searching for the sound, Nina turned and saw the little girl. Her eyes looked so familiar to Albert’s which took Nina by surprise. She stared at her trying to figure out who this girl was.
With a pair of bright eyes and a pointed chin, Evelyn stood thin and weak. With the menu in her hand, she pressed her lips together and kept quiet.
She looked at Nina for a while, and then lowered her head. Evelyn seemed to be inexplicably nervous. Finally, she plucked up some courage and smiled at Nina.
“Welcome.”
“Thank you.” Nina gave her a beaming smile back, trying to calm her nerves. Evelyn seemed to be soothed by Nina’s pleasant aura and turned back, shouting, “Ford, look. I can do it.”
Evelyn was never much of a confident person and since Albert had died, she only ever spoke to Ford.
Ford was worried about her, so he ran this restaurant.
Today was the first time that Evelyn tried to say “Welcome.” She practiced for such a long time and today was the day that she could finally say it.
Ford was looking for something at the front desk so Nina didn’t even notice him. She finally realized he was there when Evelyn called out.
As soon as Ford stood up, their eyes met.
“Ms. Lu,” Ford greeted Nina calmly and then turned to Evelyn. “Evelyn, you did a good job.”
It was the first time that Nina had seen someone try to give a compliment with such a stiff exterior. It was almost robotic.
Even so, Evelyn seemed to be able to see his smile. She smiled timidly, leaned against him and glanced at Nina. “Friend. Albert’s friend.”
The little girl was terrified of strangers, so she stuttered a few times trying to get her words out.
Noah came over and introduced them to each other. “This is Albert’s sister, Evelyn.
Evelyn, you can call her Nina.”
Even though Evelyn was a lady from a rich family, she looked weak and thin, almost like she was malnourished.
Evelyn pursed her lips and moved closer to Ford. The twelve-year-old girl was tiny and she was well below Ford’s chest as he stood, dwarfing her.
The girl glanced at Nina timidly, and Nina smiled at her. Evelyn slowly relaxed her body and greeted Nina in a sweet voice, “Nina.”
Her voice was very low and could only faintly be heard.
It was the first time that Nina heard Evelyn call her name. Nina was more distressed thinking that this little girl was Albert’s sister.
“Hello, Evelyn.” Nina wanted to touch her head, but the little girl stepped back to Ford vigilantly and retracted her head. She pursed her lips and looked up apologetically.
Ford said, “She likes you very much.”
Noah explained, “Since Albert left, Evelyn has quietened down a lot. New people scare her. At first, she only talked to Ford and Linn. I often came to see her, so she would talk to me later.
Ford opened the restaurant here because there are not so many guests here. He just wants Evelyn to be comfortable. When there are a few people, she gets some practice socializing.”
Nina had heard rumors about the Song family and knew that Albert had lived a hard life. After Albert died, she had cried for him for a long time.
“Evelyn, do you like lollipops? I can give you one.” Nina reached to find it only to realize that it had been eaten.
So she reached into Noah’s pocket and took one out. She did it so casually as if she saw nothing wrong with her actions.
“Here you are, Evelyn.”
Looking at the lollipop, Evelyn’s eyes lit up. Instead of taking it, she reached out and clenched the hem of Ford’s shirt. Noticing her reaction, Ford nodded and said, “Take it.”
Evelyn reached out and grabbed it.
Looking at how Noah and Nina got along with each other just now, Ford’s eyes deepened.
He remembered that Albert wanted him to keep Nina by Noah’s side.
Ford wondered whether M.C. worked or not.
‘I’ll give it a try later.’
If the drug took effect, one of Ford’s tasks would be completed, and then all he needed to do was wait for Evelyn to grow up.
