MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 4 Episode 57
Under Nina’s stare, James stopped talking, turned around, and talked to Emma.
The helicopter flew back to Lexingport City and landed on the top floor of North Yard’s main building.
The family doctor, who had been waiting for a long time, examined Emma from head to toe. She sustained no other injury except for a slight bruise.
Chester tugged on Nina’s hand and asked, “Aunt Nina, how are the people in C City?”
Nina looked down at the child with a smile and touched his head. “I’m not sure about the details of the disaster, but your uncle has done everything he can.”
Nina had always thought that Sam wanted to send Chester to college in B City in September for the future development of Shi family.
As it turned out, she was wrong.
It was Chester who wanted to take this path. Chester looked at John and said, “Thank you, Uncle John.”
“Okay. Never forget why you are doing this in the first place.” This was John’s only hope for Chester.
Lexingport City was a complicated place. John had seen many people who held high positions but didn’t care about masses. He hoped that Chester would never be one of them.
Emma left North Yard not long after.
After filling up a suitcase with clothes, Nina took Chester and Nine to live in her apartment near L University.
John was the only one left in North Yard.
He stood by the gate and watched the car’s tail lights growing farther. With a depressed look on his face, he produced a cigarette from out of nowhere and lit it.
Just like a lonely old man.
The people in North Yard were busy with their own work, but they couldn’t help but steal glances at John. Lena was the first one who reacted audibly.
With a sigh, she said, “Mr. Shi looks so pitiful.”
“Be careful! Don’t let him hear you!” Amy shushed her in a low voice.
With a sulky expression on her face, Lena stopped talking.
His face cast in a cold, indifferent mask, John flicked the ash off his cigarette and commented, “I heard it.”
“Mr. Shi!” Startled, Amy and Lena snapped into attention, their backs ramrod straight.
After casting a cold glance at the two of them, John walked past them without any word of admonition.
His wife had misled everyone in North Yard.
The only thing John could do now was focus on his work. On occasion, he would disguise himself and go to L University’s library using the campus access card he had gotten from James.
In order to avoid arousing Nina’s suspicion, John never asked her which floor she usually stayed on. Thus, he checked out each room to look for her. John was wearing a black peaked cap, a black hoodie, jeans, and Converse shoes.
He was afraid to cause unnecessary commotion and alert his clever wife, so he sneaked around with his head held down.
Fate finally rewarded his unceasing efforts. In the afternoon of the third day, he finally saw the person he was missing in a classroom on the top floor of the library.
Nina sat by the window, her hair tied up in a high ponytail that dangled midway down her back. She held a pen in her hand and was marking the key points on the book with it, and her mouth kept moving as she silently mouthed the text that she was reading.
From where John was standing, he could only see Nina’s back. He had a clear view of her companion, who was seated opposite her—Chester.
Nina and Chester didn’t talk or even look at each other, but the scene weighed down heavily on John.
This reminded John of what James told him before. He was always boasting to John about the happiness of studying together with his beloved.
At that time, John felt nothing but disdain for such cheesy sentimentality. But now, John wanted to hit someone.
“Bro, are you going to borrow this book? If not, can you give it to me?” asked a tall, thin boy standing beside John.

After all, this was the library, and everyone was studying hard. In a soft whisper, the boy remarked, “You’ve been standing here for more than ten minutes just to meet our school belle?”

John snapped out of his daze and glanced at the boy.
‘How did he know that I was looking at Nina?’
The boy looked around and chuckled, “Don’t you notice how many boys are in this place? There are only two female students in here.”
Hearing the boy’s words, John looked around, and his eyes landed on the only other female student in the library. The rest of the people were boys.
In addition, several guys had been standing beside this bookshelf ever since he came in, and they hadn’t budged an inch.
“What do you mean?” John asked with deeply furrowed brows, but he had already guessed what was going on. So, all of these boys were here to look at his wife?
The guy nodded. “Yep, they’re all here for Nina.” Seeing that John had slackened his grip, the guy snapped up the book from his hands.
John was not in the mood to argue. The edge of his peaked cap cast a shadow on his stern face, which was as gloomy as dark clouds before a storm.
“She’s married.”
“Everyone knows that Nina is married, but that doesn’t stop them from liking her. Besides, they don’t disturb her. They just stay in the same room and breathe the same air with her.”
The boy was about to give John a commiserating pat on the shoulder, but John’s cold eyes made him rethink the action. He instructed John in a kind voice,
“Don’t try to accost her. She doesn’t even look at guys. Her husband is Mr. Shi from the Time Group. Let’s not talk about his reputation for now and focus on his face. With such a handsome husband, Nina won’t be interested in other guys.”
“Really?” The praise somewhat made John’s face soften, but he was still unhappy.
“Of course.” The boy shook the book at his face. “This is mine now. I need to borrow it for the summer break.”
Maybe it was because the boy praised him so much just now or the fact that the boy didn’t lust after his wife, John glanced at the boy and then down to the book he was holding.
“You are reading this book?” he asked.
“I’m not taking this major,” the guy clarified. “A friend of mine will be spending summer vacation with me, so he asked me to borrow this for him. He’s an incoming senior, and the book can be a big help for him once he starts finding a place for internship and making his graduation design project. It’s odd, though. He has read this book for several times now, but he still wants to read it.” John stared at the book again. He himself had read it so many times since he was fourteen years old.
“Give me a pen and a piece of paper!” John said in a commanding tone. He quickly wrote a phone number on the piece of paper. “Ask him to contact my assistant for an interview.”
John attached great importance to talent selection.
The boy looked stunned.
In the next moment, John strode toward Nina. Chester raised his head, and their eyes met.
“Uncle…” he murmured.
“Shh…” John placed his index finger against his lips.
Chester continued to read as if nothing had happened.
Nina was immersed in her book. She got a little distracted when another person sat down beside her, but she didn’t look at the newcomer. She only reached out and pulled her books toward her section of the table to make room for the other person on their table.
John was taken aback.
Did that mean that Nina gave this seat to any random student who came over? On the second day, when Nina arrived at the library to study, she saw a pile of professional books on management on the table. It looked like one of the seats were already occupied, but the person who brought the books was noticeably absent.
Nina told Chester, “Chester, don’t be a dog in the manger like that guy. They can be pretty insufferable.”
Lost in thought, Chester said nothing. ‘Aunt Nina, you are talking about Uncle John!’
