MY UNKNOWN HUSBAND, VOLUME 2 - Season 4 Episode 55
Emma and Roman were safe. They weren’t hurt, and the only marks on their faces and bodies were streaks of dust. However, the rescue team still insisted for Roman to visit the hospital for a general check-up.
He bent down to thank the rescue team. He glanced at James and Emma, who were still locked in a tight embrace.
Roman and Emma only met by chance, and with it went through a life-of-death experience together. They’d go their separate ways soon; they were just passers-by in each other’s life.
They didn’t even try to ask for each other’s numbers. They were just two boats passing the same lighthouse once, each fading away into the horizon without a trace.
Roman made his way to the hospital.
James bent down and carried Emma away.
“Why are you here?” Emma asked as she got comfortable in James’ arms. With her arms around his neck, she felt warmth.
“I came because you missed me.” James relaxed his pace and tried to walk as steadily as possible. He wanted to carry Emma with as much stability as he could muster.
Emma thought,
‘How did he know that I missed him? Can he read my mind?’
“You sent me two pictures, remember? One with a roadside view, and the other featured a glowing sunset.” James raised his chin confidently. “I knew, then, what you were trying to say. That you missed me. So, I came. It’s just unfortunate that there was this earthquake.
Forget about it. What’s important is that I found you and you’re safe. We won’t come to C City anymore.”
James tried to console her. He wasn’t aware that he was tightening his grip on her as he spoke. The fear in him still lingered.
On her part, Emma didn’t want his worry and fear to go unnoticed. She pressed her head against his chest and listened to the rhythm of his heartbeats.
She easily heard that the beats were irregular, unlike before when its rhythm was very steady.
“So, you mean you knew I missed you because I sent you the pictures? Those were just two pictures. How could you know that?” she asked as she remembered that, during that time, she did miss him.
That was why she took a picture of the roadside scenery. She wanted to enjoy it with him.
In the evening, when she found some free time, she also took a picture of the beautiful sunset. She wanted to watch it with him.
She missed him all the time.
“I’ve been with you for a long time, and you have affected me and influenced me greatly. I’m also familiar with the poem, ‘A Twig of Plum Blossoms.’ The ending of the poem is to watch the sky in the morning and the clouds at dusk while missing the lover all day long. The one you were missing was me.”
Emma was surprised that he figured that out.
She did take the photos with that poem in mind, which in itself wasn’t hard. However, James had to find that one poem in a vast sea of poems, with only two pictures as clues.
That was difficult, and she was impressed.
“You’re excellent,” she praised. “Of course. After all, I’m your boyfriend,” James said smugly.
Emma laughed.
‘He’s so cute.’
Her laughter made James’ tension subside. With his fear gone, his voice sounded much more relaxed. “Listen. Whenever you miss me, just let me know where you are, and I will be there to meet you.”
Hearing this, Emma leaned over and kissed him on the lips. It was just a quick kiss.
“My dear boyfriend,” Emma said as she blushed and smiled. “I miss you. I miss you so much right now.”
James stopped walking.
He realized that it was the first time that his girlfriend initiated a kiss.
Her voice was light and soft, like the clouds that hung high in the sky. James savored the sweet touch of the kiss.
He felt a surge of warmth.
Damn it!
He blushed!
Emma’s kiss made him blush!

“Emma, take the phone from my pocket and make a video call to Uncle John and Aunt Nina. We have to let them know we’re safe.” James continued to walk forward with Emma in his arms.
“Okay.” Emma glanced at his red face, and it amused her. She took out the phone. It was password-protected, but was unlocked with her fingerprint.
“Wait! My fingerprint?” Emma was surprised.
James thought that he should come clean. “You fell asleep while you were attending class with me once. I secretly had your fingerprint recorded on my phone.”
At the time, she didn’t have enough rest because of Harrison and Adela.
She was bothered, disturbed.
She never told him because she thought it would annoy him, and she didn’t want that.
Oddly, Emma thought that as long as James was close, she could sleep well. Even if she was in an awkward position, like hunched over a desk in their classroom.
“So you took a picture of me sleeping while hunching over the desk, right?” Emma asked as she clicked on the WeChat app on the phone. She saw that the background photo was her face, turned to the side. She was sleeping, and she looked really messy.
It looked like the face in the photo didn’t match her image perfectly.
However, Emma knew that the person in the photo was none other than her.
“Oh, no, you’ve found it!” James acted like he was embarrassed, but he was smiling. “Don’t change it, okay? I like that photo.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Emma made the video call, and Nina answered immediately.
“James, how are you… Emma?” Nina had actually been waiting for their messages, and was holding the phone close to her all that time.
She was surprised when she saw Emma on the other line and asked, “Have James found you? Are you okay?”
“Yes. I’m fine, please don’t worry.” Peering through Nina’s background, Emma thought that she seemed to be in some kind of cabin. “Nina, where are you?”
“I’m in the helicopter.” Nina placed her phone farther away and John appeared on the screen too. “We’re coming to pick you up!”
James was surprised, he can’t help but chime in. “The helicopter?! Damn! Are you in Uncle John’s private helicopter?” Upon hearing James’ lively voice, the frown on John’s face eased a little. “I’ll be taking you back.”
“Uncle John, Aunt Nina, I’m so touched.” Tears welled up in James’ eyes. “I love you.”
“Wait for us in the square,” John said flatly and hung up the phone.
Upon arriving at the square, James and Emma saw that the whole crew were there waiting for them. When Director Xin saw the couple, he teared up once more.
“Emma, are you alright?” Director Xin walked up to her, voice full of concern. “I’m fine, Director Xin. I’m sorry if I made you worry.” James gently put Emma down. He held onto her waist to make sure she could find her balance.
“Great. That’s really good,” Director Xin said, finally relieved.
During all of this, Alice was sitting on a chair placed far behind the scene. Thus, her view was blocked by the people who wanted to approach Emma. Furious, she asked, “Is he really a member of the Shi family? How could he fall in love with Emma?”
“Well, you see, Emma is a top student of L Communication University. When she was still a sophomore, she made a short film that dealt with public welfare. The film became quite popular. She’s good.
This is also the reason why she has the privilege of working for Director Xin as in intern.” The man who answered her was one of Director Xin’s long-time employees. He was known to be knowledgeable in the entertainment industry.
He looked at Alice and added, “Maybe you’re not aware that she’s good friends with Nina? You may not even know who Nina is.”
“Well, who’s she?” Alice knew nothing about Nina.
Before she got a response, a dark cloud covered the square in shade. A strong wind blew.
A helicopter circled above the place, and everyone’s eyes looked up.
There was nowhere to land the helicopter, but John needed to take James and Emma up as soon as possible. So, he dropped a rope ladder.
Then, while John was still scrambling to climb down, Nina had already tied a safety rope and jumped along the rope ladder.
“Nina!” John shouted.
‘She’s always so reckless!’
